Masonic Notes .

The Quarterly Communication of United Grand Lodge on Wednesday was well attended , and there was a considerable amount of discussion over the scheme recently propounded by the Board of General Purposes for the amalgamation of the Colonial Board

with the said General Board . However , as will be seen from our report , the proposal was for the second time referred back to the Board for further consideration , and will not again be brought forward until the Communication in December .

The Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons assembled in Quarterly Communication on Tuesday , when the business arranged for transaction was disposed of . The Report of the General Board was adopted and ordered to be recorded in the minutes , and the Grand

Ofiicers for the year 1895-96 were appointed and invested . The proceedings in Grand Lodge were followed by the Grand Festival , at which , as he had done previously in Grand Lodge , Bro . the Earl of Euston , Pro Grand Alaster , occupied the chair , and the usual toasts were most cordially received .

* * * We have great pleasure in announcing that H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . AL , has , been pleased to confer the brevet rank of Past Deputy Grand Director of Ceremonies on Bro . John Lane , in recognition of his invaluable services to Masonic literature . Bro . Lane ,

as our readers are aware , is the author of "Masonic Records , " the copyright of which he presented to Grand Lodge last year , and the second edition of which is now in the press and will be published at an early date , under the auspices of Grand Lodge . We shall publish next week a full report of Bro . Lane ' s

Masonic career , and shall then take the opportunity of referring more particularly to the greatest and most arduous of his literary achievements . In the meantime , however , we gladly avail ourselves of the present opportunity of congratulating him on an honour which he so fully deserves , and which has been so generously conferred upon him by the AI . W . G . Alaster .

* * * Those who wish to see what " Our Boys " are like and how they comport themselves in the playing fields will do well to run down to-morrow ( Saturday ) to Kempton Park where the annual athletic sports have been arranged to be held under the direction of a

Sports Committee of which Bro . George Everett is the Chairman , and Bro . J . M . McLeod , the Secretary of the Institution , the Honorary Secretary . Or if they cannot do this and yet are desirous of making closer acquaintance with the children , let them ask Bro .

McLeod for tickets of admission to a Special Musical and Miscellaneous Entertainment which will be held at the School , Wood Green , on Tuesday , the 18 th inst ., and to which we refer more in detail in another part of our columns .

# # # We have received acommunication from our esteemed correspondent , 'Bro . J . E . Carver , who is so anxious to establish a kind of " Forward Lodge , " which shall make it its business to still further carry out the principles of the Craft , especially in all those matters by

which the community at larg * e may be benefited . Bro . Carver writes with reference to our recent remarks on thc failure of the senior candidates for election at the recent annual meeting of the R . M . B . I ., and he wishes us to place any brethren who may hold the same views ,

and may think a Forward Lodge or Lodges would prevent such failures , in direct communication with him . We need not say we shall be most happy to comply with his wishes in the case of any brother who may be desirous of consulting Bro . Carver .
