THE MASONIC CEREMONY AT TRURO .
Great preparations are being made at Truro for the approaching Royal visit—the triple attraction of the great Masonic ceremony the laying of the foundation stone of a new cathedral , and the Royal visit—conbine to make an event of extraordinary interest not only to Cornishmen and the Craft , but to thc country at large . Early last week a
public meeting was held , when the programme that had been prepared was submitted for confirmation ; it has since been subjected to some modification , but it remains substantially the same . Some disappointment will be felt at the decision that has been come to with respect to the part which the Lord Mayor will take in thc proceedings . It was at first arranged that the Lord and
Lady Mayoress , with the Sheriffs of London and Middlesex , should go in State ; but from thc diffcultyin finding accommodation for the large number of horses , carriages , and retinue , that is found to be impracticable , and his lordship will attend in his Masonic capacity as Grand Junior Warden . Vve give below the Masonic programme as issued by thc Grand Secretary . The M . W . Grand Master , H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , K . G ., will hold an Especial Grand Lodge at the Town Hall ,
Truro , in the Province of Cornwall , on Thursday , the 20 th inst , for thc purpose of laying with Masonic ceremonial the foundation stone of the cathedral of the diocese . The Grand Officers will assemble at the Town Hall , and the remainder of the brethren at the Public Rooms , when the Provincial Grand Lodge will be opened at ten o'clock . The Grand Lodge will be opened at eleven o ' clock precisely , and the procession will then be formed in the following order : — Band of music .

Senior Grand Deacons . The Grand Stewards . Grand Tyler . The procession will start from the Town Hall , and proceed to Southleigh in reversed order , where it will open out to allow the carriage of H . R . H . the Princess of Wales to drive down the line , and re-close facing the City .
H . R . H . the M . W . the Grand Master having assumed his p lace in the procession , it will move off in the abovedetailed order , and will arrive at the western entrance of the cathedral at high noon , the brethren passing through to the north-eastern enclosure taking their seats , with the exception of the Grand Officers and Provincial Grand Officers , who will be formed in ranks standing on each side of
the area of the western enclosure . The Bishop and Clergy of the Diocese will offer up prayers . The Right Hon . the Earl of Mount Edgcumbe , Provincial Grand Master of Cornwall , and Chairman of the Building Committee , will address the Grand Master , and request His Royal Highness to lay the foundation stone of the cathedral .
The Grand Master will pass in procession to the northeastern enclosure , preceded by the brethren stationed in the western one . The Grand Master having taken up his position , the vessels of corn , wine , and oil will be deposited on a pedestal placed for their reception . The Archbishop will offer up prayers .
The upper stone will then be . raised and the lower one adjusted . f he Grand Chaplain will offer a prayer . A hymn will be sung . The Grand Secretary will read aloud the inscription on the p late ; the Grand Treasurer will deposit the phial containing the ' coins , and the Grand Secretary will place the plate on the lower stone . The cement will then be spread
on the upper face of the lower stone , and the M . W . Grand Master will adjust the same with a trowel handed to him for the purpose , after which the upper stone will be slowly lowered with three distinct stops . The Grand Master will now prove thc just position and form of the stone by the plumb rule , level , and square , which will be successively delivered to him by the Junior Grand Warden , the Senior Grand Warden , and the Deputy Grand Master . Being satisfied in these particulars , he will
give the stone three Knocks with the mallet which will be delivered to him . The cornucopia , containing the corn , and the ewers , with the wine and oil , will next be handed to the Grand Master , who will strew the corn and pour the wine and oil over the stone , with the accustomed ceremonies . The Bishop will give the dedication prayer .
The Architect will be presented to the Grand Master . The Grand Master having inspected the plan of the intended building will deliver the same to the Architect , together with the several tools used in proving the position of the stone , and desire him to proceed without loss of time to the completion of the work in conformity with the p lan . The I * rcemasons will now place on the foundation stone
thc purses to be received on behalf of the Building Fund . The Archbishop will pronounce the patriarchal Benediction . The procession will return to the western enclosure , where the Grand Master will lay the western stone with similar ceremony . Ladies and gentlemen will place on the western stone the
purses and contributions received on behalf of the Building Fund . The ceremonies being concluded the Grand Lodge will return to the Town Hall . The Grand Lodge will then be closed . A luncheon will be held at the Town Hall at two o ' clock , to which ladies and non-Masons will be admitted . Tickets , including wine , 10 s .
The brethren will not appear in Masonic costume at the luncheon . N . B . —All brethren to appear at the ceremonies in black frock coats , black trousers , white ties and gloves , high hat , with full Masonic Craft clothing , the apron to be outside coat ; no jewels to be worn but those appertaining to the Craft or Royal Arch Masonry . Some disappointment will be felt at the decision that has been come to with respect to the part which the Lord Mayor will take in thc proceedings . It was at first arranged that the Lord and
Lady Mayoress , with the Sheriffs of London and Middlesex , should go in State ; but from thc diffcultyin finding accommodation for the large number of horses , carriages , and retinue , that is found to be impracticable , and his lordship will attend in his Masonic capacity as Grand Junior Warden . Vve give below the Masonic programme as issued by thc Grand Secretary . The M . W . Grand Master , H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , K . G ., will hold an Especial Grand Lodge at the Town Hall ,
Truro , in the Province of Cornwall , on Thursday , the 20 th inst , for thc purpose of laying with Masonic ceremonial the foundation stone of the cathedral of the diocese . The Grand Officers will assemble at the Town Hall , and the remainder of the brethren at the Public Rooms , when the Provincial Grand Lodge will be opened at ten o'clock . The Grand Lodge will be opened at eleven o ' clock precisely , and the procession will then be formed in the following order : — Band of music .

Senior Grand Deacons . The Grand Stewards . Grand Tyler . The procession will start from the Town Hall , and proceed to Southleigh in reversed order , where it will open out to allow the carriage of H . R . H . the Princess of Wales to drive down the line , and re-close facing the City .
H . R . H . the M . W . the Grand Master having assumed his p lace in the procession , it will move off in the abovedetailed order , and will arrive at the western entrance of the cathedral at high noon , the brethren passing through to the north-eastern enclosure taking their seats , with the exception of the Grand Officers and Provincial Grand Officers , who will be formed in ranks standing on each side of
the area of the western enclosure . The Bishop and Clergy of the Diocese will offer up prayers . The Right Hon . the Earl of Mount Edgcumbe , Provincial Grand Master of Cornwall , and Chairman of the Building Committee , will address the Grand Master , and request His Royal Highness to lay the foundation stone of the cathedral .
The Grand Master will pass in procession to the northeastern enclosure , preceded by the brethren stationed in the western one . The Grand Master having taken up his position , the vessels of corn , wine , and oil will be deposited on a pedestal placed for their reception . The Archbishop will offer up prayers .
The upper stone will then be . raised and the lower one adjusted . f he Grand Chaplain will offer a prayer . A hymn will be sung . The Grand Secretary will read aloud the inscription on the p late ; the Grand Treasurer will deposit the phial containing the ' coins , and the Grand Secretary will place the plate on the lower stone . The cement will then be spread
on the upper face of the lower stone , and the M . W . Grand Master will adjust the same with a trowel handed to him for the purpose , after which the upper stone will be slowly lowered with three distinct stops . The Grand Master will now prove thc just position and form of the stone by the plumb rule , level , and square , which will be successively delivered to him by the Junior Grand Warden , the Senior Grand Warden , and the Deputy Grand Master . Being satisfied in these particulars , he will
give the stone three Knocks with the mallet which will be delivered to him . The cornucopia , containing the corn , and the ewers , with the wine and oil , will next be handed to the Grand Master , who will strew the corn and pour the wine and oil over the stone , with the accustomed ceremonies . The Bishop will give the dedication prayer .
The Architect will be presented to the Grand Master . The Grand Master having inspected the plan of the intended building will deliver the same to the Architect , together with the several tools used in proving the position of the stone , and desire him to proceed without loss of time to the completion of the work in conformity with the p lan . The I * rcemasons will now place on the foundation stone
thc purses to be received on behalf of the Building Fund . The Archbishop will pronounce the patriarchal Benediction . The procession will return to the western enclosure , where the Grand Master will lay the western stone with similar ceremony . Ladies and gentlemen will place on the western stone the
purses and contributions received on behalf of the Building Fund . The ceremonies being concluded the Grand Lodge will return to the Town Hall . The Grand Lodge will then be closed . A luncheon will be held at the Town Hall at two o ' clock , to which ladies and non-Masons will be admitted . Tickets , including wine , 10 s .
The brethren will not appear in Masonic costume at the luncheon . N . B . —All brethren to appear at the ceremonies in black frock coats , black trousers , white ties and gloves , high hat , with full Masonic Craft clothing , the apron to be outside coat ; no jewels to be worn but those appertaining to the Craft or Royal Arch Masonry .
