KEOKUK , U . S . A . —Damascus Commandery ( No . 5 ) . — The 12 th Feb . was an eventful day in the history of Masonry in this city . It was the time fixed for C'inferring the Oreler of the Red Cross upon a number of candidates . This ceremony was commenced at 2 o ' clock in the afternoon , and lasted until nearly 6 . upon . The company was composed exclusively of the Sir Knig hts of Damascus Commandcry and their families , visiting Sir Knights and their wives , and representatives of the press . But these were sufficient to form a large assemblage . Shortly after 9 o ' clock all present were formed into procession , and proceeded to the bantpiet hall with the ceremony incident to the occasion . A bounteous repast ,
gotten up by the wives of the Sir Knights , was then served . This partook of the generosity and hospitality for which the Sir Knig hts are noted in all these entertainments . Sir Knight Bower spoke at considerable length , and his remarks were listened to with intense
interest . It was the purpose to hear from the remaineler ot the Zerrubabels , and the following additional toasts were on the programme , but owing to the lateness 1 f the hour it became necessary to adjourn the ceremonies : — " Faith , I lope , and Charity ; " as knights anel as Masons we are taught to have faith in God , hope in immortality , anel charity towards all mankind .
