Masonic Notes .
Any brethren who may have anticipated that the business to be brought before Grand Lodge at its Quarterly Communication on Wednesday would be productive of any special degree of excitement soon found their expectations were in no way likely to be realised . There was a prolonged discussion over the scheme for the re-organisation of the Board of General
Purposes and Colonial Board as a single Board , but things went smoothly , nor was there anything in connection with the nominations for the Grand Treasurership at all calculated to disturb the serene atmosphere of our Grand Lodge . The very full report we publish elsewhere shows that with a slight amendment of no material consequence the scheme for the aforesaid .
Masonic Notes.
re-organisation was adopted . Bro . Lamonb y's resolution aboutcanvassing was not brought on , as that brother had been called away into the country , and was unable to attend . However , the motion of which Bro . Sir J . B . Monckton had given notice that a sum of j $ 2 io be voted towards the Boys' School Scholarship was carried amid great applause .
* * The most noticeable incident occurred in connection with the Grand Treasurership , for which it was believed that two , if not three , or more brethren would be nominated , and that in March next we should have another of those exciting scenes which took place in Grand
Lodge in 18 94 and March of the present year over the ballot for the office . It will be seen from a letter we publish elsewhere that Bro . Alderman Vaughan Morgan withdrew his candidature in favour of Bro . W . H . Bailey , with the express idea of preventing any repetition of the exciting contests of this and last year ,
and Bro . W . H . Bailey being the only brother nominated , is in fact , if not in name , Grand Treasurer elect for 1896-7 . We trust this will be remembered when Bro . Morgan offers himself again as a candidate for the Grand Treasurership . * * *
We have great pleasure in calling attention to the announcement made in Grand Lodge on Wednesday that his Royal Highness the M . W . Grand Master has been graciously pleased to confer the rank of Past Grand Warden on Bro . Lord Brassey , the new Governor of Victoria , and Bro . Col . Sir Gerard Smith , who
holds a similar position in the Colony of Western Australia . Bro . Lord Brassey was initiated in the Apollo University Lodge , No . 357 , Oxford , in 1855 , and is a joining member of two other lodges , but his duties in Parliament and the prominent part he has
played in politics will account for his having done so little in Masonry . Bro . Col . Smith , on the other hand , has been a very active member of our Order , and is a P . M . of long-standing of the Studholme Lodge , No . 1591- # » #
We also note with pleasure that the newly-created office of Assistant Grand Secretary for German Correspondence—in lieu of the old arrangement , which provided for the appointment of a Grand Secretary tor German Correspondence—has been filled by the appointment of Bro . C . Kupferschmidt , who
will rank next after the Assistant Grand Secretary . Bro . Kupferschmidt is a Mason of long standing , of high character , and well versed in the history , distribution , and work of the Craft in Germany . He is P . M . and Treasurer of the Pilgrim Lodge , No . 238—the only lodge on the roll of the Grand Lodge of England which works in German—and J . D . of Lodge
Quatuor Coronati , No . 2076 , hesides being honorary member of the Lodge " Lessing zu den drei Ringen " in Greiz under the National Grand Lodge of Saxony , and of Lodge " ~ ur Einigkeit" in Dantzig under the Grand Lodge Royal York of Friendship . We congratulate Bro . Kupferschmidt on his selection for the ollice .
« * No business of any great consequence was transacted at the Quarterly Communication of Mark Grand Lodge on Tuesday . The recommendations in the report of the General Board were adopted , while the brethren nominated for the office of Grand Treasurer for the ensuing year were Bros . George Everett , Capt . T . C . Walls , and Major Clifford Probyn .
* * * The news of the death of Bro . W . Tinkler , who three years ago resigned the office of Vice-Chancellor of the Order of the Temple , which he had filled for some 24 years , will be received with sincere regret .
Bro . 1 inkier died at his residence in Brighton on the 26 th ult ., after a severe and very protracted illness , and we offer our respectful condolence to the widow and all to whom he was near and dear . A record of his Masonic services will appear next week .
* * " 1 he consecration of a new lodge , to be named Queen Victoria , No . 2584 , will take place in the Public Room attached to the Cheetham Conservative Club , Cheetham Hill , Manchester , on Thursday , the 12 th inst .
