Royal Victorian Jubilee Lodge , No . 2184 . The installation meeting of the abave lodge took place on Thursday , the 28 th ult ., at its ne * habitat , the King's Head Hotel , Chigwell , Essex , and was in every respecta most enjoyable affair . The house is said to be connected in samjmanner with Dickens ' s " Barnaby Rudee "—however that may be , it is certainly now a pleasant place and an ideal home for Masonry , provincial , and " summery , " therefore the home of the R . V . J . The lodee was opened bv the W . M .. Bro . lames Cain , P . M . Manchester , and a founder
of the R . V . J ., and after the initial business Bro Joseph Cohen , P . M ., P . P . D . G . D . of C , was requested by the W . M . to assume the chair as Installing Officer . The W . M . elect , Bro . James Millin , was then presented to the Installing Master by Bro . F . J . Eedle , P . M ., P . P . G . Supt . of Works , for the purpose of being installed , and in due course , and in the presence of a Board of Installed Masters , Bro . Millin was duly installed , proclaimed , and saluted . He invested his officers as follows : Bros . J is . Cain , I . P . M . j VV . Catt . S . W .: las . lovce . I . W . ; C . H . Canning , P . M .. P . P . G . O ., Treas . ; C .

His whole working throughout the ceremony was marked by eloquence and a perfect knowledge of the ritual , and hence the chorus of applause that greeted him on the conclusion of the work . Bro . Cain was presented , with a
handsome and valuable Past Master's jewel , suitably engraved , and minufacturei by Bros . Geo . Kenning and Son , of London , for which he ( Bro . Cain ) heartily thanked the brethren . Bro . Cohen was cordially thanked for his grand working of the installation ceremony . Bro . Millin was unanimously elected to represent the lodge on the Provincial Charity Committee . The balance-sheet was received and adopted . Litters of regret at inability to attend were read from the Prov . and Dip . Prov . G . Misters , the Prov . G . Secand others , and then the lodge was closed .
, The banquet was a successful effort of Bro . Lewis ' s , splendidly served , carved , and cooked , and was , therefore , the theme of congratulation , at least , amang those , and they were legion , who know and can appreciate the good things of this our Masonic world . Among the other brethren present were Bros . S . Carlton , P . M ., W . PickeringR . Dickson , B . Viney , H . Stone , and A . Tavlor , I . P . M ., of 1421 ; J .
Hem-, ming , P . M . 239 S ; M . Jarvis , S . D . 12 ; S . Myers , P . M . 9 ; R . Fowler , P . M . 1536 ; E . Walford , 27 G 7 ; C . Rawlinson , J . D . 122 S ; Jos . Andrews , 1420 ; M . Barker , 234 S ; J . Denisan , 1421 ; E . Gratton , 2675 ; and others .
The usual loyal , Grand Lodge , and Provincial Grand Lodge toasts were drunk most loyally . Bro . Canning , by virture of his seniority , was called upon to respond for " The Provincial Grand Officers , Present and Past , " and in response , briefly expressed his sense of the high honour which had been conferred upon him by their esteemed Prov . Grand Master , Bro . the Earl of Warwick , and he would endeavour by every means in hislpower to promote the prosperity of the province .
Bro . Eedle said he was in a position to tell them that there had been no less than five lodges added to the strength of the province that year . He was present at the last . meeting of Prov . Grand Lodge , and made it a rule to visit the St . Osyth Lodge at Clacton , where he always met with a splendid reception . He was proud of being a Prov . G . Officer , and hoped to live long as a member of the Royal Victorian Jubilee Lodge , and thereby be enabled to wear the collar so kindly given him by their P . G . M ., the Earl of Warwick .
Bro . Cohen then proposed the toast of " The W . M . " He said they were all pleased and proud to see Bro . Millin in his present exalted position , because , in the first place , he , Bro . Millin , had well earned it , and , in the second , because he believed that Bro . Millin would faithfully and earnestly maintain the honour and prestige of the lodge . Bro . Millin had filled every office in the lodge , that was to say , below the chair j he was able to work every Degree , and would be an honour and cred ' rt to the lod- 'e : he was a true man and a true Mason , and he called upon them to drink the toast with all their hearts .
Bro . Millin , who was cheered to the echoes , said that was one of the moments in a Mason's life when the heart feels almost too small to contain the feelings that swayed it ; but he could assure them that their great kindness to him would be ever one of the proudest memories in his life . He must apologise to the brethren for not being present at their previous meeting , when he was elected to the chair , but now thanked them most heartily for their kindness , and should do all in his power to mike the lodge a happy and prosperous one . In response to an enthusiastic reception of the toast of " The Installing Officer , "
Bro . Cohen said that had been a supremely happy day for him , because their esteemed VV . M . had asked him to install his ( Bro . Cain ' s ) successor . They knew that he ( Bro . Cohen ) was prevented by unfortunate and unforeseen circumstances from installing Bro . Cain , and Bro . Cain had very kindly allowed him the opportunity of installing Bro . Millin , as a sort of solatium for his disappointment last year . It had afforded him great pleasure , because Bro . Millin had done good service to the lodge , more especially in the auditing of the accounts . He trusted their W . M . would have a good and prosperous year of office , and cordially thanked them all for their generous reception of the toast .
Bros . Cain , Eedle , and Jolly briefly responded to the toast of " The Past Masters . " Bros . Jarvis , Hcmmings , Rhodes , Andrews , Renurck , and others responded for "The Visitors . " " The Officers " and the Tyler's toast were given and responded to , after which the ? roceedincs terminated .
Bros . Walford and Fowler sang splendidly salos and duets , Bro . Jolly recited , and a most enjoyable event inaugurated the opening of the new home ofithe lodge and the installation of its esteemed Master .

The lodge having been opened , the minutes of the last regular meeting were read and confirmed . Bro . Robinson was passed to the S ; cond Degree and Bros . Foyle and Francott raised to the Third Degree . The ceremony in both cases was rendered by the W . M . in a manner that might be expected from the Preceptor of the Emblematic Lodge of Instruction . Votes of condolence were passed to Bro . Pringle , P . M ., and Bro . Van Gelder , both of whom had suffered domestic bereavsment . The Secretary reported the serious illness of the Tvler , Bro . Evenden , P . M . It was decided to apply for
permission to hold a lodge of instruction under the warrant ot the lodge . Ihe W . M ., addressing the brethren , said he had now a very pleasing duty to perform , viz ., to present to the Secretary , Bro . Bullock , P . M ., an illuminated address , which had been subscribed to by every member of the lod ^ e without exception . Accompanying this was a cheque , which the VV . M . requested Bro . Bullock to use in anything he chose . PrnrfpiWntr . thi" W . M . said that thev were verv much indebted to their Secretarv for
the services he had freely rendered to them . He was a founder and first Master of the lodge , and had undertaken the Secretaryship some years ago under very trying cir cumstances . Since then he had discharged his duties in a way that brought credit on himself and gave the utmost satisfaction to his brethren . The great success that had attended the annual ball was largely attributable to Bro . Bullock , who , he reminded them , had other claims on his time , as he was also Secretary of the United Northern Counties Lodge , No . 2128 . In conclusion , the W . M . expressed on behalf of the brethren a fervent wish that Bro . Bullock might long be spared to carry on his Masonic
