THERE are many curious points involved in this inquiry , and which cannot be dismissed by any kind of off-hand examination . That many of the lodges on the rolls of 1723-5 were also continued on that of 1729 cannot be doubted , there being several even yet lo which our experts cannot assign any numbers . We understand that notwithstanding Bio . J

LANE ' S laborious researches in the preparation of his "Masonic Records , ' he has not succeeded in fixing several of the old lodges on the lists without numbers , prior to 1729 . Another difficulty which meets the student on the threshold of the enquiry is the fact that the engraved lists between 1725 and 1729 are missing , no copies being known in any Masonic library tit home or abroad . * # »

UNDER these circumstances we are pleased to note that Bro . SADLER has identified so many of these old lodges to which the early Grand Stewards belonged , and wc desire now to emphasize his request for the fraternal help of students in the endeavour to supply any of the links he has , so far , failed to discover , and thus render his most readable ariicies on the Grand Stewards as complete as possible .

PROVINCIAL GRAND ROYAL ARCH CHAPTER OF KENT .

The annual Provincial Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Kent was held in the Masonic Temple , Canterbury , on Thursday , the 29 th ult ., under the presidency of the Right Hon . Earl Amherst , Grand Superintendent of Kent , on which occasion there was a numerous attendance of the companions

from all the chapters in the province . The returns from chapters showed that the number of members had increased during the year . Among the sums voted by the Provincial Grand Chapter for benevolent purposes was one of eighty guineas to the Royal Masonic Institutions for Boys and Girls .

The minutes ot the previous Grand Chapter , held at Durham in September , 1884 , were read and confirmed , and the Grand Superintendent designate was announced , and requested to send in his patent . Comp . B . Levy , the Installing Officer , having examined the patent , directed a deputation of Provincial Grand Officers and Past Principals to retire with the

Director of Ceremonies , and introduce the Grand Superintendent , who , being introduced , was placed in front of the pedestal , and the patents were read . The Grand Superintendent , having conscientiously undertaken the

duties of the office , prayer was offered by the Prov . Grand J ., Comp . J . Potts . The Grand Superintendent having been duly obligated and invested with apron , sash , and collar , and the jewel of office , was duly pro . claimed by the P . G . Registrar .

The minutes ot the previous Grand Chapter , held at Durham in September , 1884 , were read and confirmed , and the Grand Superintendent designate was announced , and requested to send in his patent . Comp . B . Levy , the Installing Officer , having examined the patent , directed a deputation of Provincial Grand Officers and Past Principals to retire with the

Director of Ceremonies , and introduce the Grand Superintendent , who , being introduced , was placed in front of the pedestal , and the patents were read . The Grand Superintendent , having conscientiously undertaken the

duties of the office , prayer was offered by the Prov . Grand J ., Comp . J . Potts . The Grand Superintendent having been duly obligated and invested with apron , sash , and collar , and the jewel of office , was duly pro . claimed by the P . G . Registrar .

The GRAND SUPERINTENDENT then appointed and invested as his Principals Comps . J . Horsley ( Hartlepool ) P . G . H . ; and W . Coxon ( Durham ) P . G . J . The roll of chapters having been called , the P . G . TREASURER ( Comp . B .

Boulton ) read the financial statement , which showed the province to be in a very flourishing condition . Ten guineas were devoted to the Durham Masonic Education Fund . Comp . B .
