The chapter was opened in ancient form and the minutes of the last convocation , held on the 27 th April , were read and confirmed . A ballot was taken on behalf of Bro " John Sollie Henry , of the Burlington Lodge , No . 96 , as a

candidate for exaltation , which proved unanimous in his favour . Letters were read from Comp . Colonel A . Stewart , D . G . Supt . Punjab , regretting his inability to attend through illness , and from Bro . J . Sollie Henry , also expressing his regret at not being able to attend . The usual routine business of the chapter having been

disposed of , Comp . Captain A . Nicols worked the first clause with the assistance of Comp . T . C . " Edmonds , greatly to the satisfaction and instruction of the companions . Three candidates were proposed for the autumn meeting , when a large gathering of the members and their friends is expected . The labours of the evening being concluded , the

companions dined together . The M . E . Z ., Comp . Capt . A . Nicols , rising to propose the first toast of the evening , viz ., " Her Majesty the Queen and Royal Arch Masonry , " said that it required neither preface nor comment , for it was a toast which all were bound by love and duty to honour . Noble and good herself , our Gracious Queen has ever been the patroness of those institutions which have for their object the relief of

the distressed and the welfare of her subjects . Hence we find her assisting in the support of our Masonic Institutions —taking on trust their noble object without being permitted to penetrate our mysteries or to share our secrets . The toast was honoured with enthusiasm . The customary toasts being duly honoured and responded to , the companions enjoyed a quiet hour in peaceful conversation and harmony .

WOOLWICH . —Union Waterloo Chapter ( No . 13 ) . —The usual quarterly convocation of this old and prosperous chapter took place at the Masonic Hall on VVednesday , the 2 Sth ult ., when there were present Comps . George Kennedy , M . E . Z . ; Thomas Ovenden , H . ; Geo . Spinks , J . ; John Wilkins , P . Z . ; W . T . Gamble , P . Z . j Wm . Richey , P . Z . j Edward West , P . Z . and Treas . ; Abel Penfold , P . Z . j Rob . Gooding , Scribe E . j Wm .

Richey , Scribe N . j J . Woodley , P . S . j R . Warren , ist A . S . ; G . King , 2 nd A . S . ; J . Saunderson , A . Willmott , Ambrose Fenn , C . Canning , H . de Grey , J . read and confirmed , the business stated on the agenda paper was proceeded with , viz : to ballot for as joining members , Comps . Edwin Hughes , M . P ., Pattison Chapter , No . 913 , and A . Willmott , which proved unanimous in each case ; and the undermentioned brethren , candidates for exaltation were also unanimously elected viz .: Bros . W . R . Arnold , J . Chinn , John Christian ,

VV . Shackleton , all of Ubique Lodge , No . 17 S 9 , and Bro . L . Comerford , of United Military Lodge , No . 1536 , and those brethren being in attendance , were regularly introduced and exalted to . the Supreme Degree of Royal Arch Companion . The several charges from the chairs were rendered in a most efficient manner by the Principals , who were ably supported by the P . Soj . and his Assistants . torm

The chapter having been closed in due , the companions adjourned to Comp . de Grey ' s , Freemasons ' Tavern , and partook of the usual banquet , which was served by Comp . de Grey in his best style . "The toast of "The Queen , " and that of "H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , Grand Z . of the Order , " having been duly honoured , that of "The Earl of Carnarvon ,

G . H . of the Order , and the rest of the Urand Omcers , Present and Past , " followed . "The Health of the First Principal of the Chapter " was then proposed by Ex . Comp . J . Wickens , LP . Principal , who alluded , in eulogistic terms , to the correct and

faultless manner in which Ex . Comp . Kennedy , had performed the ceremonv of exaltation in the chapter , he was confident that the companions whom the M . E . Z . had exalted that evening were deeply impressed not only with the nature of the ceremony which they had witnessed , but also with the impressive manner in which it was delivered by the

M . E . Z . Comp . Kennedy , in reply , thanked the companions for their cordial greeting . He appreciated the honour of presiding overso old and renowned a chapter as No . 13 , Union Waterloo . It would be his earnest endeavour to maintain during his period of office the prestige of No . 13 Chapter , and to follow in the footsteps of those excellent Masons that

had built up its reputation , and had made it in regard to its working one of the foremost chapters in the metropolitan district . He was proud to have the privilege of exalting that evening five worthy companions . He ventured to say that that experience was unique in the history of the Union Waterloo Chapter , as during the 20 years he had been connected with it , so great a number had not been exalted

on any occasion . He trusted it was an augury of further and continued success , especially as three candidates were proposed for exaltation at the next meeting . This would enable him at the end of his year of office to hand the chapter over to his successor in a flourishing condition . " The Health of the Past Principals of the Chapter " was then proposed by the M . E . Z ., and was duly responded

to by P . Z . ' s Comps . Wilkins , Gamble , and Richey . The toast of "The Visitors" followed , being responded to by Comps . J . C . Smith , Rowan , and Aillud . Comp . Woodley responded for " The Officers of the Chapter" in felicitous terms . The Janitor ' s toast followed , after which the companions separated , having spent a most instructive and pleasant evening .

PLYMOUTH . —Concord Chapter ( No . 223 ) . — The annual installation convocation of this chapter was held on Tuesday , the 27 th ult ., at the Masonic Rooms , Union-street . There was a large attendance of companions . The Principals elect were installed as follows : —Comps .

CAMDEN CHAPTER OF IMPROVEMENT ( No . , o ) .-A convocation of the above chapter was held at the . Moorgate , Finsbury-pavement , on Tuesday , the 3 rd inst . Present : Comps I . C . Smith , M . E . Z . ; Dean , ' H . ; Edmonds , . ! . ; II . Siyman , S . E . ; Bolton , S . N . ; G . W . Knight , P . S . ; Whiting , Janitor ; J . Ives , Gibbs , and others . Chapter was opened in due form , and the ceremony of exaltation

was rehearsed , Comp . Ives candidate . After rising for the third time , " Hearty good wishes " were given to the M . E . Z . The ceremonies were rendered by each of the companions in a most admirable manner . Com ' p . Bolton was succc :-sful in the ballot of JL ' S , $ S . for one of the Charities on the 27 th ult . Any companion attending 20 times during the preceding twelve months is eligible to participate in the ballot in this chapter of improvement .

HORNSEY CHAPTER OF IMPROVEMENT ( No . S . o ) . —A convocation was held at the Porchester Hotel , Leinster-place , Cleveland-square , Paddington , W ., on Friday , the 30 th ult , Present : Comps . proposed "The Health of Her Majesty the Queen , " " His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales , 33 , Patron of the Order ; Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales , and the rest of the Royal Family , " which were most loyally responded to . The M . W . S . proposed "The Health of the Supreme Council and the Members of the 33 ° , " coupling with this

toast the name of their dear friend and III . Bro . Charles J . Banister , S . G . I . G ., 33 ° , and Inspector General of the North-Eastern District . The toast was received with acclamation , and responded to in most feeling terms by Bro . Banister , who thanked the brethren most heartily for the very great kindness withwhich he was always received when he came amongst them ; and ,

although he felt old age creeping upon him , trusted that he might yet be spared to attend and witness their good working of that beautiful Christian Degree . Before sitting down he had the greatest pleasure in proposing "The Good Health and Prosperity of the M . W . S ., III . Bro . S . Kelly , " who had so ably worked the ritual and perfected the candidate immediately after his installation , and felt sure that the

officers appointed would emulate their chief . On the M . W . S . rising to respond to the toast , he was received most cordially , and thanked Bro . Banister and the brethren for their kindness in a very neat speech . The M . W . S . next proposed "The Members of the 32 ° and 31 ° , " which was responded to by III . Bro . VV . H . Brittain , 32 , in a telling speech .

111 . Bros . Arnison , Florey , Voight , and Shaw responded to the toast of "The Health of the Members of the 30 ° . " The M . W . S ., in suitable terms , proposed "The Health of the I . P . M . W . S ., Bro . J . E . Bingham , " who responded most effectively , promising to assist the M . W . S , in the working of the ceremonies whenever he might require it . The'M . W . S . proposed "The Health of the Candidate , "

which was heartily received , and nicely responded to . 111 . Bro . C J . Banister , in proposing " The Officers of the Chapter , " paid a high compliment to the Prelate , Bro . Cleeves , and thanked each officer for the excellent way in which lie discharged the duties of his respective offices . The ist General proposed " The Health of the Visitors , " and the last toast , being proposed by the M . W . S ., brought a most enjoyable evening to its close .

HUDDERSFIELD . —Prince of Wales Chapter ( No . 69 ) . —This chapter was opened by the M . W . S ., Bro . J . L . Atherton , on the 30 th ult ., at the Masonic Hall , Fitzwilliam-stieet , assisted by the officers of the chapter . III . Bro . Charles James Banister , S . G . I . G ., 33 ° , and I . G .

North-Eastern District , was received under an arch of steel and properly saluted . The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed , Five candidates were unanimously elected , viz ., Bros . F . Whiteley , Kichard Hodgson , Thos . Pickles , John Royle , and Alfred Fletcher . The first four being in attendance were perfected by the M . W . S . most carefully and impressively , 111 . Bro . Jonas Craven , 30 , taking the part of

Prelate in the unavoidable absence of 111 . Bro . Marshall , 30 ' ; Bros . MoncUman , 1 st Gen . ; Crabtree , 2 nd Gen . ; Sugg , Recorder ; Frank VV . Banister , G . Marshal ; and Gill , Raphael ; each performing : their offices to the admiration of all present . The business of the chapter being ended , and a good collection by the Almoner , the chapter was closed in due form . ihe banquet was served in the Dining Hall , and

comprised all the delicacies of the season , under the presidency of the M . W . S ., Bro . J . L . Atherton , having on his right ( 11 . Bro . C . J . Banister , 33 ° , Inspector Gen . of the District ; Ex . and Perfect Bros . VVhiteley , Shaw , Hodgson , Bernino , Frank Banister , Gill , & c . ; and on his left 111 . Bro . Jonas Craven , 30 ; Ex . and P . Bros . Pickles , Royle , Crabtree , Sugg , & c , the vice-chair being occupied by Bro . J . VV . Monckman . tst General .

Bro . J . L . Atherton , M . W . S ., proposed in succession ' The Health of her Most Gracious Majesty the Oueen , " "H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , Grand Pation ' of the Order , and the rest of the members of the Royal Family , " all being received with great cordiality ; also " The Supreme Council , 33 , " thanking their Inspector General , 111 . Bro . Banister , for his great kindness in being with them at their regular meetings and when they met for

instruction . 1 heir dear friend and chief put himself often to much inconvenience to be with them , and he trusted that he might long be able to come amongst them . The toast was received most heartily , and responded to by Bro . Banister thanking the M . W . S . for the handsome manner in which he proposed the toast , and the brethien for their hearty response , assuring them that it gave him quite as much pleasure in coming and witnessing their zeal

in working the degree , as it could them in having his presence at their meetings . He proposed " Health , Happiness , and Prosperity to the M . VV . S . and all the Brethren of the Chapter . " The M . VV . S . returned thanks in a telling speech , and proposed ' * The Health of the Candidates , " who severally returned thanks , expressing their great pleasure in beinc

accepted as members of this admirable Christian degree . Bro . J . W . . Monckman proposed "The Health of 111 . Bro . Jonas Craven , 30 , " who cordially replied , giving excellent advice to the brethren . He proposed "The Health of the Officers , " which was responded to by the 2 nd General , Bro . Crabtree , and several of the other officers . The last toast being given from the chair brought a most instructive and enjoyable evening to a close .

NEWCASTLE . ON-TYNE . —Royal Kent Pre ceptory ( No . 20 ) . —The preceptory was opened on Friday , 23 rd ult ., at the Freemasons' Hall , Maple-street , by the Eminent Preceptor , Sir Knight C . R . Fry , 30 " , assisted by the officers . The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed . Comp . John McKay , who had been previously elected , came up for the Degree , and was installed a Knight Templar by the E . P ., Sir Knight C . R .

Fry , in his usual perfect and impressive manner . Business of the chapter being finished , the preceptory was closed in due form . A fair number joined at refreshments in the dining hall , and spent a happy evening under the presidency of the Eminent Preceptor . 'The loyal and Masonic toasts were duly proposed , and responded to by the Knights . This preceptory is well worked and very prosperous .

NEWCASTLE ON - TYNE . —Grand Cross Council of the Pa 6 t E . C . and Preceptors of the Royal Kent . —A council of the Knights Grand Cross was held at the Grand Hotel , Tynemouth , on Thursday , 22 nd ult . Present : Bros . Bousfield , M . I . G . M . ; Henry Hotham , G . Supt . j Charles James Banister , Col . JamesMonks , J . J . Wilkes , H . Maddison , C . R . Fry , 1 nomas Ness , and J . S . Wilson . Letters of apology and

telegrams were received from I . Knts . Youle , li . A . Luck , Winlaw , Brandt , and others . Business over the council was closed in due form , and the sir knights adjourned to a complimentary banquet given by them to 111 . Knt . Henry Hotham , Grand Superintendent ot the Order , under the presidency of M . I . G . M ., Sir Knt . S . F . Bousfield . 'The dinner was most excellent , and after grace the Chairman , in suitable termsproposed the toast

, of "Her Most Gracious Matesty the Oueen , their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales , and the rest of the Royal Family , " which were duly honoured . The E . P . Prior of Knight Templars of the province , Sir Knt . Charles James Banister , P . M . I . G . M ., in kind and affectionate terms , proposed "The Good Health of their guest , Sir Knt . Henry Hotham , Grand Superintendent , " who had ruled over them so kindly since the death of their

lamented Sir Knt . Wm . Punshion . He trusted that their old and esteemed friend would enjoy yet many years of happiness in the office he so ably filled . He and Sir Knt . Hotham had worked together in these Christian Degrees for over 30 years , and it seemed but the other day since he was proposed as a candidate by his dear old friend , and he trusted that they might both be spared to work together in love and harmony .

I he toast was drunk with acclamation . Sir Knt . Hotham , on rising to respond , was greeted w ith long and hearty cheers . He thanked his old and dear friend lor the very handscme way he had proposed his health , and was much too flattering in his encomiums . He had only done his duty , which was a labour of love , and with such kind friends about him how could he be otherwise than happy . He thanked them very much for this

further mark of their kindness and affection to him , and he trusted that all present , with those absent members who were unavoidably prevented being with them that day , might live many years to conduct the business of this knightly Degree , of which we were so justly proud . He wished each and all every happiness they could enjoy . Other toasts were proposed and duly responded to , and the illustrious knights paited , having spent a most happy and instructive evening . '

Three candidates were proposed for the autumn meeting , when a large gathering of the members and their friends is expected . The labours of the evening being concluded , the

companions dined together . The M . E . Z ., Comp . Capt . A . Nicols , rising to propose the first toast of the evening , viz ., " Her Majesty the Queen and Royal Arch Masonry , " said that it required neither preface nor comment , for it was a toast which all were bound by love and duty to honour . Noble and good herself , our Gracious Queen has ever been the patroness of those institutions which have for their object the relief of

the distressed and the welfare of her subjects . Hence we find her assisting in the support of our Masonic Institutions —taking on trust their noble object without being permitted to penetrate our mysteries or to share our secrets . The toast was honoured with enthusiasm . The customary toasts being duly honoured and responded to , the companions enjoyed a quiet hour in peaceful conversation and harmony .

"The toast of "The Queen , " and that of "H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , Grand Z . of the Order , " having been duly honoured , that of "The Earl of Carnarvon ,

G . H . of the Order , and the rest of the Urand Omcers , Present and Past , " followed . "The Health of the First Principal of the Chapter " was then proposed by Ex . Comp . J . Wickens , LP . Principal , who alluded , in eulogistic terms , to the correct and

faultless manner in which Ex . Comp . Kennedy , had performed the ceremonv of exaltation in the chapter , he was confident that the companions whom the M . E . Z . had exalted that evening were deeply impressed not only with the nature of the ceremony which they had witnessed , but also with the impressive manner in which it was delivered by the

M . E . Z . Comp . Kennedy , in reply , thanked the companions for their cordial greeting . He appreciated the honour of presiding overso old and renowned a chapter as No . 13 , Union Waterloo . It would be his earnest endeavour to maintain during his period of office the prestige of No . 13 Chapter , and to follow in the footsteps of those excellent Masons that

had built up its reputation , and had made it in regard to its working one of the foremost chapters in the metropolitan district . He was proud to have the privilege of exalting that evening five worthy companions . He ventured to say that that experience was unique in the history of the Union Waterloo Chapter , as during the 20 years he had been connected with it , so great a number had not been exalted

on any occasion . He trusted it was an augury of further and continued success , especially as three candidates were proposed for exaltation at the next meeting . This would enable him at the end of his year of office to hand the chapter over to his successor in a flourishing condition . " The Health of the Past Principals of the Chapter " was then proposed by the M . E . Z ., and was duly responded

to by P . Z . ' s Comps . Wilkins , Gamble , and Richey . The toast of "The Visitors" followed , being responded to by Comps . J . C . Smith , Rowan , and Aillud . Comp . Woodley responded for " The Officers of the Chapter" in felicitous terms . The Janitor ' s toast followed , after which the companions separated , having spent a most instructive and pleasant evening .

Banister , who thanked the brethren most heartily for the very great kindness withwhich he was always received when he came amongst them ; and ,

although he felt old age creeping upon him , trusted that he might yet be spared to attend and witness their good working of that beautiful Christian Degree . Before sitting down he had the greatest pleasure in proposing "The Good Health and Prosperity of the M . W . S ., III . Bro . S . Kelly , " who had so ably worked the ritual and perfected the candidate immediately after his installation , and felt sure that the

officers appointed would emulate their chief . On the M . W . S . rising to respond to the toast , he was received most cordially , and thanked Bro . Banister and the brethren for their kindness in a very neat speech . The M . W . S . next proposed "The Members of the 32 ° and 31 ° , " which was responded to by III . Bro . VV . H . Brittain , 32 , in a telling speech .

S ., Bro . J . E . Bingham , " who responded most effectively , promising to assist the M . W . S , in the working of the ceremonies whenever he might require it . The'M . W . which was heartily received , and nicely responded to . 111 . Bro . C J . Banister , in proposing " The Officers of the Chapter , " paid a high compliment to the Prelate , Bro . Cleeves , and thanked each officer for the excellent way in which lie discharged the duties of his respective offices . Fry , 30 " , assisted by the officers . The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed . Comp . John McKay , who had been previously elected , came up for the Degree , and was installed a Knight Templar by the E . P ., Sir Knight C . R .

Fry , in his usual perfect and impressive manner . Business of the chapter being finished , the preceptory was closed in due form . A fair number joined at refreshments in the dining hall , and spent a happy evening under the presidency of the Eminent Preceptor . 'The loyal and Masonic toasts were duly proposed , and responded to by the Knights . This preceptory is well worked and very prosperous .

NEWCASTLE ON - TYNE . —Grand Cross Council of the Pa 6 t E . C . and Preceptors of the Royal Kent . —A council of the Knights Grand Cross was held at the Grand Hotel , Tynemouth , on Thursday , 22 nd ult . Present : Bros . Bousfield , M . I . G . 'The dinner was most excellent , and after grace the Chairman , in suitable termsproposed the toast

, of "Her Most Gracious Matesty the Oueen , their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales , and the rest of the Royal Family , " which were duly honoured . The E . P . Prior of Knight Templars of the province , Sir Knt . Charles James Banister , P . M . I . G . M ., in kind and affectionate terms , proposed "The Good Health of their guest , Sir Knt . Henry Hotham , Grand Superintendent , " who had ruled over them so kindly since the death of their

lamented Sir Knt . Wm . Punshion . He trusted that their old and esteemed friend would enjoy yet many years of happiness in the office he so ably filled . He and Sir Knt . Hotham had worked together in these Christian Degrees for over 30 years , and it seemed but the other day since he was proposed as a candidate by his dear old friend , and he trusted that they might both be spared to work together in love and harmony .

I he toast was drunk with acclamation . Sir Knt . Hotham , on rising to respond , was greeted w ith long and hearty cheers . He thanked his old and dear friend lor the very handscme way he had proposed his health , and was much too flattering in his encomiums . He had only done his duty , which was a labour of love , and with such kind friends about him how could he be otherwise than happy . He thanked them very much for this

further mark of their kindness and affection to him , and he trusted that all present , with those absent members who were unavoidably prevented being with them that day , might live many years to conduct the business of this knightly Degree , of which we were so justly proud . He wished each and all every happiness they could enjoy . Other toasts were proposed and duly responded to , and the illustrious knights paited , having spent a most happy and instructive evening . '
