"Modern " 292 ) , was erased in 1 S 17 , and I am of opinion that some of the members subsequently revived its work , and that in the application for a Warrant of Confirmation the numbers became mixed ; probably they referred to the old minutes containing the number 292 . This , unfortunately , Is but a specimen of the difficulties which surround us in endeavouring to trace some of the old lodges . Many of them were regularly constituted by the Prov . G . Masters , but were never returned to Grand Lodge for registration

hence they never appear in the Grand Lodge books . Quite recently 1 came across an old Provincial Warrant of ist March , 1 S 13 , belonging to " Lodge Fortitude and Perseverance , No . 12 , Coast of Coromandel , Madras , " but , although the Warrant is now in Grand Lodge , it never appears in any list . 1 hope to give some information on these points in my " Masonic Records , " and shall be really thankful if any brother , who can throw a gleam of light on this subject , will kindly do it without delay . Oliver a wedding gift , consisting of a valuable marble time-piece , inlaid with malachite and gold , bearing a silver shield suitably inscribed , and accompanied with a pair of handsome bronze statues , and asked the Secretary ' s acceptance of the gift as some proof of the

appreciation by the brethren of the zealous services rendered by Bro . Oliver in various capacities since his admission into the lodge . Bro . Vial supplemented these observations by alluding to the pleasure felt by the brethren generally in recognizing the energetic and willing services of their excellent

Secretary . The recipient expressed the sincere gratification he experienced in receiving such a substantial proof of the esteem in which his humble services had been held , expressing the intention of continuing to render all the assistance he could to the various officers while engaged in lodge work . visitors , the lodge was closed . The host , Bro . T . VVidnall , supplied an excellent dinner , at which the brethren and several visitors attended . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were given , an especially warm and fraternal greeting being accorded to the Dep . Prov . G . M ., who expressed in happy terms the gratification he felt in being present on the recognition of

the Secretary s services , and feelingly alluded to the emotion he experienced some years ago , on a similar presentation to himself , and therefore thoroughly understood the overflowing and grateful feelings of the recipient . " The Health of the expectant Benedict and his intended

bride" was proposed by the VV . M ., when , in further responding , Bro . Oliver gracefully referred to the advantages he derived by following the steps of his father and uncle , both members and Past Masters of the lodge . Other toasts followed , and a most enjoyable evening was spent by all the brethren who were able to attend this hospitable lodge .

CROWLE . — Isle of Axholme Lodge ( No . 14 S 2 ) . —The annual festival of this lodge was held on Tuesday , the 20 th inst ., at the Masonic Rooms , when Bro . T . C . Horobin , S . VV ., was installed in the W . M . 's chair by Bro . F . D . Walker , 242 , the Installing Master . The Iodge was honoured on this occasion by Bro . VV . H . Smyth , the R . W . Prov . G . M . of Lincolnshire . A most cordial and hearty

reception was accorded Bro . Smyth . This was the first time the R . W . 'Prov . G . M . had visited the Isle of Axholme or this lodge . Webb , Gooderidge , and Fox rendered also good service , which was heartily appreciated . Bro . Ashton gave a splendid violin rendering , in his usual masterly style . He was accompanied by Bro . Burtonshaw , who , with Bro .

Dayson , were the pianists . Mr . Fred . Lovitt , " mine host" of the Darby and loan Hotel , engaged the Public Hall for the banquet , and the room being properly prepared and adorned , added pleasure to the duties in connection with the banquet , which was of a most excellent character . This has been one of the most successful festivals of the lodge .

Beha ' s term of office will be an eventful one , as it is the intention of the members to adopt the suggestion and scheme proposed by Bro . J . Blandy Jenkins to build a Masonic Hall .
