BRIDGEND . —Ogmore Lodge ( No . 1753 . 1 . — The annual festival of the above lodge was held on Monday , the 2 nd inst ., at the Masonic Hall , Wyndham Arms Hotel . The lodge was opened in due form by W . M . John Sim Woolley . 'The W . D . G . M ., Bro . Tennant , and other officers of Prov . Grand Lodge were announced , and received by the brethren in due form . The installation ceremony was performed in an impressive manner by thc

W . D . G . M ., Bro . Tennant , who inducted Bro . John Hemming into the chair as Worshipful Master of the lodge , and the usual congratulations and salutations took place . Woolley with a handsome Past Master ' s jewel , as a memento of his valuable services as Worshipful Master during the past two years . The jewel , which was expressly designed for the occasion , was supplied by Bro . Beha , and the presentation was prefaced by an appropriate

speech , and hearty good wishes were expressed tbat Bro . Woollcy ' s health would soon be restored , and that he would live many years to wear the jewel , and to remind him of his connection with the Ogmore lodge . 'The brethren afterwards drove to Southern - own , and spent an enjoyable time in the vicinity of Dunraven Castle . At 5 . 30 an excellent banquet was provided at the Wyndham Arms Hotel , ancl the general appointments and floral decorations of the

table elicited the admiration of the guests , and the liberal menu afforded general satisfaction . 'The Worshipful Master , Bro . Hemming , presided , and was supported by the W . Prov . G . M . ancl several Masters and Past Masters of lodges . At the conclusion of the repast , the usual Masonic toasts were given , the only drawback to a most pleasant evening being the early retirement of the D . P . G . M . in order to avail himself of the last train service . Bro . Legge

TWICKENHAM . —Francis Burdett Chapter ( No . 1503 ) . —A convocation of this Provincial Chapter was held at the Albany Hotel , 'Twickenham , on Friday , the 23 rd ultimo , when there were present , among other companions , Comps . J . Stevens , acting M . E . Z . ( in the absence abroad of Comp . Cama ); R . Tlirupp , P . 7 .., acting" H . ; VV .

Taylor , J . ; T . C Walls , P . G . D . C Middx ., S . N . ; W . H . Saunders , S . E . and 1 st A . S . ; Harrison , Janitor . The minutes of the previous convocation having been read and confirmed , the ballot was taken upon behalf of Bro . Metier , and it proving to be unanimous , he was duly exalted to the degree of a U . A . M . Upon the conclusion of the ceremony Comp . Thrupp gave the seldom-delivered but very

interesting and erudite lecture upon the Royal Arch Jewel . Previous to the chapter being closed a vote of thanks was passed to Comp . Thrupp for his services . Letters of resignation from Comps . Knaggs , Helect , and Jcfferys were received with regret . The visitors to the chapter were Comps . Poore , M . E . Z . Panmure ; and E . Hopwood , P . Z . Lebanon , who both ably assisted in thc ceremonial of exaltation .

Comp . 1 hrupp having been proposed as a subscribing member , the convocation was closed , and the companions adjourned to a collation . Upon the removal of the cloth the usual toasts followed . Comp . Walls replied upon behalf of " The Prov . Grand Officers . " " The Exaltce ' liavinrr been

duly honoured , Comp . Metier acknowledged the compliment . "'The Visitors" was responded toby Comps . Poore and Hopwood in effective speeches . "The " Health of the M . E . Z . " was proposed in happy terms by Comp . Stevens , and duly drank . 'The toast of "'The Officers , " acknowledged by Comp . Taylor , brought thc proceedings to a conclusion .

Other business of a routine character having been transacted and the dues rendered the lodge was closed in perfect harmony and brotherly love .

PORTSMOUTH . —Naval and Military Conclave ( No . 35 ) . —The annual assembl y of the Knights of this conclave was held at the Masonic Hall , Highbury-street , on Friday , the 30 th ult ., for the enthronement of M . P . S . and other business . After passing minutes of former conclave , Past Sov . A . R . Robinson presented the M . P . S . elect forthehonourof enthronement , and Sir Knight R . Osborne for consecration as Viceroy . The customary portions of the New

Testament having been read , all the Sir Knights below the Second Grade retired , a College of Viceroys was opened , and Sir Knight Osborne admitted and consecrated . The Sir Knights below the Third Grade having retired , a Senate of Sovereigns was opened , and Sir Knight Wm . Tuck was entrusted , admitted , and enthroned . 'The Sir Knights were re-admitted , and having saluted the M . P . S , in the usual manner , the officers for the year were invested . The

members resolved unanimously that a letter of congratulation should be forwarded to the Grand Sov ., SirjFrancis Burdett , Bart ., upon his accession to the baronetcy , also that future meetings should be held in the New Masonic Hall , Landport . Their being a candidate , Bio . A . R . Hyde , of the Royal Sussex Lodge , No . 342 , in attendance , the ballot was in his favour , and he was entrusted , admitted , and installed by thc Int . Gen ., Dr . Knot . The conclave was closed in due form and solemn prayer at 0 . 15 .

John Barker , 30 , M . W . S ., assisted by a good muster of his officers and brethren . The chapter was opened in due form , and the ballot was taken for two candidates , which was found to be in their

favour . 'The following brethren being present—Bros . T . Scholfield Bradford , P . ' P . G . D ., No . 306 ; G . II . Locking , J . W . St . Oswald Lodge , 910 , Pontefract ; E . W . H . Anderson , Mirfield Lodge , 1102—they were perfected in this Sublime Degree . Letters of apology having been read from several brethren ,- the chapter was closed in due form , and the brethren sat down to refreshments under the presidency of their M . W . S .

PROVINCIAL GRAND LODGE OF RENFREWSHIRE EAST . On Saturday , the 31 st ult ., the Quarterly Communication of ihe Provincial Grand Lodge of Renfrewshire East was held in the hall of St . Mirren Lodge , No . 129 , Paisley . In thc absence of the Provincial Grand Master , Bro . Sir A . C . Campbell , Bart ., Bro . ex-Bailie Caldwell , Substitute P . G . M ., presided . The Benevolent Committee reported

that they had considered several applications for relief , and recommended that sums from £ 2 to , £ 5 be given . This was agreed to . 'The Treasurer reported the funds of the lodge to be in a satisfactory condition . 'The Substitute Provincial Grand Master afterwards called attention to several important matters to be brought before Grand Lodge at its meeting on Thursday , the 5 th inst ., and hoped all members of Grand Lodge would endeavour to be present .

L'UNION DES PEUPLES LODGE ( No . 134 ) - —1 his lodge held its usual monthly meeting on Thursday , the 22 nd ult ., at the Masonic 'Temple , Rue Jean Jacques Rousseau . Lodge was opened at half-past eight ( the time on the summons was half-past seven precisely ) . There were present Bros . Bcsnard , VV . M . ; Mauris and Legorgeu , Wardens ; Vincent , Orator ; Pirlot , Sec . ; and some

forty other brethren , also several visitors , amongst them Bros . G . Collas Dickey , 1744 , England , 'The minutes of last meeting were read by the Secretary , and confirmed b y the lodge . The W . M . then react the correspondence , which consisted principally of invitations from other lodges to visit their meetings , and attend their summer banquets , and excuses from brethren unable to be present

that evening . Permission from the Prefect of Police forthe lodge to hold its summer banquet cm Sunday , 25 th July , was also read . The reports referrring to the proposed initiation of Messrs . Tontu , Guillot , 'Thomas , and Forest , were then submitted to the meeting , and the third ballot was taken for these gentlemen , which being unanimous in their favour , they were admitted and initiated into the Order , after

which a triple battery was lirod by the brethren to welcome them . 'The VV . M . in a few graceful words thanked the visitors for their presence that evening , and in the name of the lodge warmly invited the English brother to the banquet to be held on the Sunday . The mystic circle was then formed and the pass word for the coming six months was communicated , after which the lodge : was closed in the usual manner .

LES PHILANTHROPES REUNIS LODGE ( No . 66 ) . — 'This lodge held an emergency mcetingon the 2 . yel ult ., at the Masonic Temple , Rue Jean Jacques Rousseau . 'The lodge v .-p . s opened in the usuarform ' at half-past eight . There were present Bros . Flcurv , W . M . ; Duvoisin and

Boulet , Wardens ; Buisson , Orator ; Girard , Secretary ; and a goodly gathering of thc brethren , together with several visitors , among them Bro . G . Collas Dickey , 1 744 , England . 'The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed , the . W . M . read the correspondence :, which , besides the usual invitations from other lodges , con-

tained the necessary permission for the lodge to hold its

usual summer fete , which will take place on the Sth August , and will be preceded by thc interesting ceremony of "adoption . " There was also a letter from the Secretary of the Supreme Council , acknowledging the receipt of a protest which the W . M ., on behalf of the lodge , had sent in with reference to the political conduct of a well-known brother , a member of the Council , a copy of which protest the W . M . read to thelodge amid general signs of approval .

The third ballot was then taken for Messrs . Kistemaeckers and Valens , and was declared to be unanimous in their favour . Messrs . Delpech and Cabrolier , who had already passed successfully the third ballot , were then admitted and initiated , being welcomed as members by the brethren in the usual hearty manner . The W . M . at this point received a letter which he at once read to the lodge ; it contained the sad news that one of the brethren of the lodge had died

that day at five o ' clock . The W . M . at once called on the brethren present to fire a battery ( of "mourning" ) to the memory of the deceased , which was done in the usual impressive manner , and a Committee of five was formed to wait upon the widow on the following day , and , in the name of the lodge , to afford her immediate assistance , if

required ; it was also resolved "that the lodge buy a wreath of flowers to place upon the grave . " It was then agreed that the ordinary lodge meeting in August should be held on the first Friday instead of the second . 'The "troncs" then circulated , and the "circle" being formed , the password was communicated , after which the lodge was closed in the usual manner .

BRO . JOHN WARD . A very well-known Mason in North and East Yorkshire has gone to his rest . Bro . John Ward , for many years Provincial Grand Pursuivant , died on Sunday last , at the age of sixty-eight years , after an illness of about three months . Bro . Ward was initiated in the York Lodge , No . 236 , and \ vas a subscribing member up to the time of his death . For a period of several years he acted as Tyler of

that lodge . He was also a member of the York Mark Lodge ( T . I . ) until his health and straitened circumstances compelled his resignation , and for several years acted as its Tyler , and , on his retirement from that office he was presented with an illuminated address of thanks . He was also a member of the Zetland Royal Arch Chapter , No . 236 , and for some years acted as its Janitor . He was also for several years junior Janitor of thc Provincial Chapter . Bro . Ward

was a very energetic member of the Templar Order , and was one of thc founders , and , up to within a very recent period , the Tyler of the Ancient Ebor Preceptory , No . 101 . He was perfected in thc Talbot Chapter , Rose Croix , at Sheffield , and was also a member of the Hilda Chapter , at York . He took the Degrees of Red Cross of Constantine and K . H . S . in the Eboracum Conclave , at York , and showed a keen interest in every branch of Masonry . Bro .

Ward had , by his invariably urbane manners and kindly heart , won for himself the good opinion of every brother with whom he was brought in contact , and his p lace of business for years formed a Masonic rendezvous in York for strangers and visitors , who always experienced a courteous reception at his hands . He was one of the first promoters of the volunteer movement in York , and for many years had filled the post of bugle-major in the 1 st West York Rifle Volunteers . His funeral took place at the York

Cemetery on Tuesday , and was conducted by a detachment of his battalion with military honours . There was an enormous attendance of spectators , and several Masons were present to testify their respect to the memory of the deceased . Among them wc noticed Bros . W . Lawton , P . M . ; J . Todd , P . M . ; T . B . Whytehead , P . M . ; A . Buckle , P . M . ; G . Kirby , J . Tissiman , T . S . Camidgc , T . G . Hodgson , Stead , Saville , Flint , Bland , Young , Hemson , P . Pearson , and others .

GRAND CHAPTER OF CANADA .

The Grand Chapter of the Royal Arch Masons of Canada met on the 16 th ult . in the Masonic Hall , Guelph . After the minutes of the previous meeting' - had been read and confirmed , and a quantity of routine business attended to , the G . R ., Ex . Comp . ' / . Daniel Spry , delivered his address to thc companions . The ieceipts for thc last year have been 1794 . 04 dollars .

and the expenditure 1109 . 73 dollars , leaving a surplus of 6 S 4 . 29 dollars . As directed by thc Grand Chapter , 1500 dollars have been invested by the purchase of paid-up stock in the Toronto House Building Association , which increases the permanent investments to 6000 dollars . 'There is 1335 . 3 S dollars cash on hand , of which the excommittee will probably recommend a further investment of 1000 dollars .

The minutes of the previous convocation having been read and confirmed , the ballot was taken upon behalf of Bro . Metier , and it proving to be unanimous , he was duly exalted to the degree of a U . A . M . Upon the conclusion of the ceremony Comp . Thrupp gave the seldom-delivered but very

interesting and erudite lecture upon the Royal Arch Jewel . Previous to the chapter being closed a vote of thanks was passed to Comp . Thrupp for his services . Letters of resignation from Comps . PORTSMOUTH . —Naval and Military Conclave ( No . 35 ) . —The annual assembl y of the Knights of this conclave was held at the Masonic Hall , Highbury-street , on Friday , the 30 th ult ., for the enthronement of M . P . S . and other business . After passing minutes of former conclave , Past Sov . A . R . Robinson presented the M . P . S . elect forthehonourof enthronement , and Sir Knight R . Osborne for consecration as Viceroy . The customary portions of the New

Testament having been read , all the Sir Knights below the Second Grade retired , a College of Viceroys was opened , and Sir Knight Osborne admitted and consecrated . The Sir Knights below the Third Grade having retired , a Senate of Sovereigns was opened , and Sir Knight Wm . Tuck was entrusted , admitted , and enthroned . 'The Sir Knights were re-admitted , and having saluted the M . P . S , in the usual manner , the officers for the year were invested . The

members resolved unanimously that a letter of congratulation should be forwarded to the Grand Sov ., SirjFrancis Burdett , Bart ., upon his accession to the baronetcy , also that future meetings should be held in the New Masonic Hall , Landport . PROVINCIAL GRAND LODGE OF RENFREWSHIRE EAST . On Saturday , the 31 st ult ., the Quarterly Communication of ihe Provincial Grand Lodge of Renfrewshire East was held in the hall of St . Mirren Lodge , No . 129 , Paisley . In thc absence of the Provincial Grand Master , Bro . Sir A . C . Campbell , Bart ., Bro . ex-Bailie Caldwell , Substitute P . G . M ., presided . The Benevolent Committee reported

that they had considered several applications for relief , and recommended that sums from £ 2 to , £ 5 be given . This was agreed to . 'The Treasurer reported the funds of the lodge to be in a satisfactory condition . 'The Substitute Provincial Grand Master afterwards called attention to several important matters to be brought before Grand Lodge at its meeting on Thursday , the 5 th inst ., and hoped all members of Grand Lodge would endeavour to be present .

L'UNION DES PEUPLES LODGE ( No . 134 ) - —1 his lodge held its usual monthly meeting on Thursday , the 22 nd ult ., at the Masonic 'Temple , Rue Jean Jacques Rousseau . Lodge was opened at half-past eight ( the time on the summons was half-past seven precisely ) . There were present Bros . Bcsnard , VV . M . ; Mauris and Legorgeu , Wardens ; Vincent , Orator ; Pirlot , Sec . ; and some

forty other brethren , also several visitors , amongst them Bros . G . Collas Dickey , 1744 , England , 'The minutes of last meeting were read by the Secretary , and confirmed b y the lodge . The W . M . then react the correspondence , which consisted principally of invitations from other lodges to visit their meetings , and attend their summer banquets , and excuses from brethren unable to be present

that evening . Permission from the Prefect of Police forthe lodge to hold its summer banquet cm Sunday , 25 th July , was also read . The reports referrring to the proposed initiation of Messrs . Tontu , Guillot , 'Thomas , and Forest , were then submitted to the meeting , and the third ballot was taken for these gentlemen , which being unanimous in their favour , they were admitted and initiated into the Order , after

which a triple battery was lirod by the brethren to welcome them . 'The VV . M . in a few graceful words thanked the visitors for their presence that evening , and in the name of the lodge warmly invited the English brother to the banquet to be held on the Sunday . The mystic circle was then formed and the pass word for the coming six months was communicated , after which the lodge : was closed in the usual manner .

tained the necessary permission for the lodge to hold its

usual summer fete , which will take place on the Sth August , and will be preceded by thc interesting ceremony of "adoption . " There was also a letter from the Secretary of the Supreme Council , acknowledging the receipt of a protest which the W . M ., on behalf of the lodge , had sent in with reference to the political conduct of a well-known brother , a member of the Council , a copy of which protest the W . M . read to thelodge amid general signs of approval .

The third ballot was then taken for Messrs . Kistemaeckers and Valens , and was declared to be unanimous in their favour . Messrs . Delpech and Cabrolier , who had already passed successfully the third ballot , were then admitted and initiated , being welcomed as members by the brethren in the usual hearty manner . The W . M . at this point received a letter which he at once read to the lodge ; it contained the sad news that one of the brethren of the lodge had died

that day at five o ' clock . The W . M . at once called on the brethren present to fire a battery ( of "mourning" ) to the memory of the deceased , which was done in the usual impressive manner , and a Committee of five was formed to wait upon the widow on the following day , and , in the name of the lodge , to afford her immediate assistance , if

required ; it was also resolved "that the lodge buy a wreath of flowers to place upon the grave . " It was then agreed that the ordinary lodge meeting in August should be held on the first Friday instead of the second . 'The "troncs" then circulated , and the "circle" being formed , the password was communicated , after which the lodge was closed in the usual manner .

BRO . JOHN WARD . A very well-known Mason in North and East Yorkshire has gone to his rest . Bro . John Ward , for many years Provincial Grand Pursuivant , died on Sunday last , at the age of sixty-eight years , after an illness of about three months . Bro . Ward was initiated in the York Lodge , No . 236 , and \ vas a subscribing member up to the time of his death . For a period of several years he acted as Tyler of

that lodge . He was also a member of the York Mark Lodge ( T . I . ) until his health and straitened circumstances compelled his resignation , and for several years acted as its Tyler , and , on his retirement from that office he was presented with an illuminated address of thanks . He was also a member of the Zetland Royal Arch Chapter , No . 236 , and for some years acted as its Janitor . He was also for several years junior Janitor of thc Provincial Chapter . Bro . Ward

was a very energetic member of the Templar Order , and was one of thc founders , and , up to within a very recent period , the Tyler of the Ancient Ebor Preceptory , No . 101 . He was perfected in thc Talbot Chapter , Rose Croix , at Sheffield , and was also a member of the Hilda Chapter , at York . He took the Degrees of Red Cross of Constantine and K . H . S . in the Eboracum Conclave , at York , and showed a keen interest in every branch of Masonry . Bro .

Ward had , by his invariably urbane manners and kindly heart , won for himself the good opinion of every brother with whom he was brought in contact , and his p lace of business for years formed a Masonic rendezvous in York for strangers and visitors , who always experienced a courteous reception at his hands . He was one of the first promoters of the volunteer movement in York , and for many years had filled the post of bugle-major in the 1 st West York Rifle Volunteers . His funeral took place at the York

Cemetery on Tuesday , and was conducted by a detachment of his battalion with military honours . There was an enormous attendance of spectators , and several Masons were present to testify their respect to the memory of the deceased . Among them wc noticed Bros . W . Lawton , P . M . ; J . Todd , P . M . ; T . B . Whytehead , P . M . ; A . Buckle , P . M . ; G . Kirby , J . Tissiman , T . S . Camidgc , T . G . Hodgson , Stead , Saville , Flint , Bland , Young , Hemson , P . Pearson , and others .

GRAND CHAPTER OF CANADA .

The Grand Chapter of the Royal Arch Masons of Canada met on the 16 th ult . in the Masonic Hall , Guelph . After the minutes of the previous meeting' - had been read and confirmed , and a quantity of routine business attended to , the G . R ., Ex . Comp . ' / . Daniel Spry , delivered his address to thc companions . The ieceipts for thc last year have been 1794 . 04 dollars .

and the expenditure 1109 . 73 dollars , leaving a surplus of 6 S 4 . 29 dollars . As directed by thc Grand Chapter , 1500 dollars have been invested by the purchase of paid-up stock in the Toronto House Building Association , which increases the permanent investments to 6000 dollars . 'There is 1335 . 3 S dollars cash on hand , of which the excommittee will probably recommend a further investment of 1000 dollars .
