senting him with a Past Master's jewel , which he richly deserved , and he hoped that he would live for many years to wear it . He also had the great pleasure of handing him a massive piece of silver plate , which had been subscribed for by the members as a small token of esteem they felt towards him , and for his great services to the lodge . _ For the lirst time in the history of the lodge , the initiates decided to present the out-going VV . M ., Bro . E . C . Talbot ,

with a testimonial in recognition of his splendid work during his year of office . This took the form of a very fine Tantalus , and was accompanied by a beautifullyilluminated address . Bro . Talbot is very popular and an ardent worker , snd his reign has been the most brilliant in the annals of the ledge . The presentation to Bro . Talbot was made , on behalf of the initiates , by Bro . H . T . Brooks —a very young member of the lodge—in a short but happy

speech , which elicited much applause . Bro . E . C . Talbot , l . P . M ., on rising to respond , received an ovation , and it was a few minutes before he was able to reply , when he thanked the members for their very earnest reception . His heart was too full , and it was difficult for him to express in words what he felt toward ? them , but in gaining a Past Master's jewel he had reached the summit of bis Masonic career . He appreciated the

silver plate , and it was more than kind of the members to make him that handsome present . His best thanks were also due to his initiates for their splendid token , and their appreciation of his services was to him a grateful act , which he could never forget , and in conclusion he hoped all the members would come to his house , and make use of the beautiful things given to him that night . In appropriate terms the VV . M . gave the toast of "The

Visitors , " remarking that they were always received there with great cordiality and pleasure . They had some distinguished ones that evening , and he gave them all a hearty welcome . Bro . G . Griffiths , VV . M . 1310 . in reply , stated that he was pleased to be there to witness the excellent working and the happy proceedings . It was gratifying to him to see how Bro . Talbot was honoured by the members , and

he would have the privilege of installing hin as VV . M . of of his lodge in a few weeks' time . Bros . H . ] . Tibbatts , W . M . ; J . G . Milbuir-n , P . M . ; A . Love , P . M . ; C . H . Nicholas ; and G . Bird , P . M ., also made suitable responses , bearing testimony to the excellent working and the great hospitality of the members . 'The other toasts were "The Past Masteis , Treasurer , and Secretary , " and " The Officers , " ard were duly honoured , to which several good speeches were made in

reply . The Tyler's toast brought to a close a memorable and enjoyable evening , and the VV . M . is to be congratulated on the greatsuccess of the happy gathering . The v cal entertaiment was carried out by Bros . J . Huckell , G . T . Kinipple , Montagu , Mr . J . VV . Baker , Master George March , Bros . F . Stephens , C March , and A . H . Serjeant , the two last-named deserving special mention . Bro . Percy J ackman ably presided at the pianoforte .

Faith Lodge ( No . 141 ) . —A meeting of this lodge was held at Anderton's Hotel , Fleet-street , on the 27 th tilt . Among those in attendance were Bros . Capt . T . C . Walls , P . M ., G . Stwd ., as W . M . ; W . J . Hakim , P . M ., Treas ., as S . W . ; Godfrey , J . W . ; W . Stuart , P . M ., Sec . !; Gluckstein , J . D . ; Moss , I . G . ; C . Dairy , P . M . ; and C . Wetzlar , P . M . The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed . They included a resolution that the March meeting

in future should be abandoned . It having been reported that since the last meeting Bro . W . Lanirdale , P . M ., had died , it was moved from the chair that a vote of condolence to the widow and family should be forwarded b y the Secretary . This was duly seconded , and carried with many individual expressions of regret at the loss of so genial a man and worthy a Mason . Bros . Trott , W . M . ; White , S . W . ; and others sent apologies for non-attendance . The lodge was then closed .

United Pilgrims Lodge ( No . 507 . ) --The installation meeting of this lodge was held at the Bridge House Hotel , on Thursday , the 22 nd ult ., Bro . C . H . Stone , VV . M ., presiding . The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed . The W . M . next proceeded to the principal business of the evening , the installation of Bro . R . B . Gilson , W . M . elect . The ceremony was performed throughout in an exemplary manner , and Bro .

C . H . Stone , Installing Master , deservedly earned the congratulations he received on all sides . The VV . M . then appointed and duly invested the following officers for the ensuing year : Bros . C . H . Stone , l . P . M ., acting S . W . ; Beste , J . W . ; Lipscomb , S . D . ; Peters , P . M ., Sec . ; Terry , P . M ., 'Treas . ; Gold , J . D . ; G . Terry , I . G . ; Comfort , Charity Steward ; Ellson , P . M ., D . C . ; and juyce , P . M ., Stwd .

The brethren then adjourned to an excellent banquet , at which the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured . In replying to the toast of "The Grand Ofiicers , " Bro . S . Cochrane , theG . Treas slid : Inthe first place , Worshipful Master , I thank you on behalf of the Grand Officers for the kind way in which you have proposed the toast and the brethren for the more than ordinary cordial manner in which

they have received it . There are Grand Officers and Grand Ofiicers ; I happen to be one of your own making , wholly and solely attached to the Blue . A dear old friend of mine tried to get my position for 1 S 94-95 , and although not successful , 1 am glad to say he polled about 400 more votes than had ever been polled before . Bro . Stiles has spent years and years teaching Freemasonry , and has done so much for the Masonic Charities , even ( ioo guineas , that

I still look forward with confidence to his heading the poll at the next election of Grand 'Treasurer for England . 'The I . P . M . said : For the first time in the United Pilgrims Lodge / have to propose " The Health of the W . M . " The manner in which he has conducted the affairs of the lodge this evening redound enormous credit on himself considering he has only been a Mason for live years .

from his first entrance into the lodge Bro . Gilson has proved himself a worthy member of our honourable Craft , and I was delight id to see that almost his first act in the chair was to announce his intention of standing Steward to the Girls' Institution . I do not for one moment doubt that our W . M . will fully maintain the prestige of the lodge during his year of office , and I ask the brethren to drink this toast in the cordial manner if deserves .

In reply , the VV . M . thanked the I . P . M . for the kind expressions be had used in reference to himself , and the brethren for so enthusiastically drinking his health . The W . M . said : The next toast , fortunately for myself , requires but few words to commend it to you , it is the toast of "The I . P . M . " You all know Bro . Stone so well , have seen his excellent working , and , I am sure , appreciate him as much as I do . The way in which he has presided over

us during the past year has been most exemplary . We are all glad that he has now recovered from his severe illness , and trust that he maybe spared for many years to wear the Past Master ' s jewel I now have the pleasure of presenting him with . I am sure Bro . Stone will not feel this presentation a mere matter of form , but a heartfelt exoression of the esteem in which he is held by the members of the United Pilgrims Lodge .

The W . M . here privately presented Bro . Stone with a Past Master ' s collar and silver jewel , given him by the officers of the lodge . The jewel bore the following inscription : " To Bro . C . H . Stone , W . M ., 1893-94 , from a fsw of his many friends . The I . P . M . said : This is a moment of pride and regret . Pride in having filled—I hope fairly well—the chair in the United Pilgrims Lodge , and having installed so worthy a

brother as my successor ; and regret in being obliged to leave the chair just as I was getting used to the work . 1 am deeply indebted to you for the great kindness you have shown me in unanimously voting me this jewel , which I shall prize as long as 1 live . There is one point especially I must mention , that is to express my thanks to the brethren who have so abiy supported me during the past year . The officers have been most regular and punctual , and richly

deserve the promotion they have received this evening . I also have to thank the Past Masters for their kind assistance , and , I need hardly add , that I shall be only too glad to render the lodge any service in the future as far as lies in my power . 1 hope our present W . M . is only the first of a lone list of W . Ms , drawn from the younger members of

the lodge . The VV . M . then proposed "The Health of the Visitors . " The toast was enthusiastically received , and ably responded to by Bros . VV . Martin and Hernaman , both expressing the pleasure it had given them to witness the work in the lodge , and thanks for the hearty reception the toast of the visitors had received .

In proposing the toast of "The Past Masters , " the VV . M . likened them to the fathers of families , whose duty it was to teach the younger members in the way they should go , and but for whose assistance it would be next to impossible for many men to creditably occupy the position of VV . M . He specially thanked Bro . Cockell , P . M ., who , with the help of Bro . Atkinson , the Organist , had arranged

such an excellent musical programme . Bro . Michaelis , P . M ., briefly responded . The W . M . then proposed "The Health of the Officers , " speaking in high terms of praise of their abilities , and especially those of the Treasurer , who during a 22 years ' membership of the lodge hz . d only been absent on three

. In reply , the S . W . thanked the W . M . for the honour he had bestowed upon him in appointing him his S . W ., and felt sure that the whole of his officers would do their best to merit his approbation . The J . W ., I . P . M ., Treasurer , and Secretary also suitably

responded . A vote of thanks to the artistes and the T yler's toast brought to a close the pleasant proceedings . The artistes were Mrs . Cockell , Miss R . Beste , Mrs . Milligan , Mr . Hubert Celis ( violin ) , Mr . VV . G . L . Cockell , Mr . Gould , and Bros . H . E . Cockell , G . VV . Beste , and F . C . Atkinson , Mus . B ., P . M . 16 4 S .

Duke of Fife Lodge ( No . 2345 ) . —The installation meeting of this lodge was held , by a dispensation from Grand Lodge , owing to alterations at the Alexandra Hotel , at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet-street , E . C , on Tuesday , the 27 th inst ., Bro . E . Beaven , P . M ., W . M ., in the chair . 'The minutes were read and confirmed , and Bro . Horace Cross Mitchell was passed to the Degree of F . C . The report of the Audit Committee was unanimously received ,

the lodge being congratulated on its financial stability . Bro . A . Harvey was presented to the W . M ., and by him installed as Master for the coming year . The officers were then invested , viz .: Bros . E . Beaven , I . P . M . ; Langdon , S . W . ; Charlie Woods , J . W . ; Robert Steele , P . M ., Treas . ; J . VV . Folkard , P . M ., Sec . ; J . Lyell , S . D . ; VV . VV . Westley , P . M ., D . C ; A . Robertson , A . D . C . ; J . Mitchell , I . G . j G . F . Winny , Org . j and C . Patrick ,

Tyler . The J . D ., Bro . Hy . Mitchell , and the Stewards were not invested , not being able to attend . On the motion of Bro . Steele , Treasurer , seconded by Bro . Harvey , W . M ., it was decided to make a grant of 10 guineas towards the funds of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys . All Masonic business being ended , the brethren dined together , and having done justice to a capital repast , received the toast of "The Queen and the Craft" with enthusiasm .

In proposing " The M . W . G . M ., " the W . M . referred to the interest their chief showed in the Order . In proposing " The Grand Officers , " the W . M . pointed out that two of their members , who were noted for kindhearted , disinterested . work were Grand . Officers . It was highly gratifying to have the Grand Treasurer in their midst , and as they had not expected to have Bro . G . Everett , P . G . Treas ., present they were pleased he had

been able by a great effort to come . The special interest they had was shown by their recent actions for the lodge . In response , Bro . S . Cochrane , G . Treasurer , said that for . some years he had known how much work the Grand Officers did . Some were spending much time in attending the various Committees , and generally attending to the interests of the Order .

Bro . George Everett , P . G . Treasurer , was gratified that his work for the lodge was appreciated . He had been able to arrange for the present meeting and hoped all would go off well . He thanked them on behalf of the Grand Officers for so kindly receiving the toast . Bro . Beaven , I . P . M ., said of the "The VV . M . " that all in the lodge appreciated him . He had done excellent service for the Order , and would be ready to continue '' , c

same . The W . M ., in response , said that he had been s ° impressed with the tenets of the Craft in his mother lodge that he had ever tried , and would continue to do his duty ; In proposing "The l . P . M ., " the W . M . presented him with a Past Master ' s jewel , and expressed a hope that he

M ., Bro . E . C . Talbot ,

with a testimonial in recognition of his splendid work during his year of office .

M . ; A . Love , P . M . ; C . H . C . H . Stone , Installing Master , deservedly earned the congratulations he received on all sides . The VV . M . then appointed and duly invested the following officers for the ensuing year : Bros .

Craft Masonry.

B ., P . M . 16 4 S .
