St . Paul's Lodge , No . 2277 ( E . G . ) . The installation meeting of this lodge was held at the Masonic Rooms , Limassol , Cyprus , on Wednesday , the 16 th November , when Bro . H . J . Aldred , W . M ., presided . After the lodee had been ooened . and the minutes of the previous meeting

confirmed , Bro . M . P . Efthymiades was passed to the Second Degree by the W . M ., and the working tools were explained , and the charge delivered by Bro . Theo . Mavrogodarto , S . W . The principal business was the installation of the W . M . elect , Bro . Capt . Theodore Mavrogodarto , S . W ., Local Commandant of Police , the ceremony

appertaining to which vvas verv ably performed by the retiring W . M ., Bro . H . J . Aldred , assisted by Bro . Lieut .-Col . W . W . Kenny , P . M . The officers for the vear were appointed as follows : Bros . Najem Houry , S . W . ; W . W . Morison , J . W . ; F . H . Parker , P . M . 2402 , Treas . ; F . O . Harvey , P . M . 2402 , Sec ; Dr . Carageorgiades , P . M . 16 , ( G . C ) , S . D . ; L . Pierides , J . D . ; H . L . Pappadophelous , J . Guard ; G . T . Rossides , P . M ., Master of Ceremonies ; G . Foscolo and T . Sturgess , Stwds . ; E , Longcroft , P . M ., Org . ; and F . Drew , Tyler . Bro . Aldred then

gave the adoresses in an elegant manner . _ He was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his services , and was also presented with a handsome and valuable Past Master's jewel as a mark of the esteem of the brethren , and for valuable services rendered the lodge during his year of office . All business being concluded , the brethren sat down to an excellent banquet ( provided by Bro . N . Houry ) , at the conclusion of which the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were proposed by the W . M ., and most cordially received by all present . The toast of "The Officers of the Grand Lodge of England " was proposed by the

I . P . M . Bro . Lieut .-Col . Henry , P . M ., responded . The I . P . M . then proposed " The Health of the W . M ., " and congratulated the brethren upon having him as their W . M ., he being highly esteemed as ** a man and a brother , and he felt confident that in him the brethren would not regret the choice they had made , and wishing him a successful year of office , called upon the brethren to drink his health and prosperity .

In proposing "The Health of the I . P . M . and Installing Officer , " the W . M . paid a high tribute to the services of the I . P . M ., and in adequate phrases expressed his regret at his departure from the island , as the brethren felt that they were losing one of their ablest Masons in Cyprus . The I . P . M ., in reply , thanked the brethren for * the hearty manner in which his health had been drunk , and for the kind remarks of the W . M . He stated that he had

done his best for the lodge , and the brethren were the best judges as to how far he had succeeded . He thanked the officers for the assistance rendered during his term of offic ; and also thanked them all for the beautiful Past Master ' s jewel which they had so kindly presented to him . He would shortly be leaving them , and he should ever wear it with pride and thoughts ot the lodge . The toast of "The Past Masters" was well received , and responded toby Bros . Lieut .-Col . Kenny , R . A . M . C ., and E . Longcroft .

In proposing " TheOfficers , " the W . M . stated he was fortunate in having an exceedingly good set of officers at his back , and he had much pleasure in joining with the toast the name of Bro . W . W . Morison , Junior Warden . In responding , Bro . W . W . Morison said that he and his colleagues would do their best to make the year of office of the W . M . a success . The Tyler ' s toast ended a most successful and enjoyable evening . Songs were rendered by a number of the brethren , the musical arrangements being in the hands of Bro . T . Mavrogodarto .

On the 1 Sth November a most enjoyable ball was given by the brethren of the above lodge . A dispensation having been granted by the United Grand Lodge of England to wear Craft regalia , the brethren availed themselves of this opportunity of paying homage to the " Shrine of Terpsichore" by journeying from different parts of the island , Nicosia , Papho , Larnaca , & c . The officers of the garrison were also present .

Thc imposing effect of the Craft regalia , the gorgeous uniforms of the military , the beauty of the ladies' dresses , and the exquisitely decorated ballroom , made this one of the most successful dances ever held in Cyprus in connection with Masonry . Great credit was due to the members of the Working Committee , Bros . Aldred , Longcroft , Carageorgiades , Houry , and Morison , for the able manner in which the arrangements were carried out ; and the fact that dancing was kept up till 4 p . m . shows that their efforts were appreciated by the guests .

INITIATION OF THE EARL OF RONALDSHAY . On Wednesday afternoon a most important function took place in the Lennox Lodge , Richmond , Yorks , when the Earl of Ronaldshay , eldest son of the M . W . the Marquis of Zetland , P . G . M . N . and E . Yorks , was initiated into the mysteries

of the Craft . The Lennox Lodge has a record of which any lodge in the kingdom might well be proud . It has numbered amongst its members a Grand Master of England in the person of the late Earl of Zetland , and when Bro . Greathead was

alive and a member of the lodge , he had the proud distinction of being the oldest Freemason in England , having been connected with the Craft for a period of considerably over half a century . It now includes amongst its members the Marquis of Zetland , Lord Bolton , D . P . G . M . N . and E . Yorks , and the Earl of Ronaldshay .

The initiation of the latter on Wednesday would have been attended by a large and influential gathering of Masons had not thc P . G . M . intimated his wish that it should be of a semi-private nature .

PECK congratulated the Iodge upon the honour which had been conferred upon it by the initiation of Lord Ronaldshay , whose ancestry had shed lustre upon Freemasonry in England . Bros . COWPER and ROBINSON also added their congratulations upon the auspicious event .

BRO . T . I . BIRD , P . M ., P . PROV . G . S . B . We regret to announce that Bro . Theophilus Inman Bird died after a short , but painful , illness at his residence , 18 , Rectory-road , Stoke Newington , on the 3 rd inst ., aged 58 years . The deceased was Divisional Chief Inspector to the Gas Light and Coke Company , with which he had been connected 37 years . Bro . Bird was P . M . and Secretary of Elliot Lodge , No . 1567 , of which he was W . M . fn 1885 and 1895 ; Senior P . M ., and founder , and first J . W . of the Citadel Lodge ,

No . 18 97 , both in the province of Middlesex , P . G . S . B . of the province . He was also Treasurer of the Citadel Lodge of Instruction and the Masonic Charities Association , Vice-President of the Old People ' s Institution , and on the Committee of Management , and a life subscriber to the Boys' and Girls' Institutions . He was a man of conspicuous ability , and much respected and esteemed by all who had the privilege of knowing him . Bro . Bird leaves a widow and four

daughters to mourn his loss . Two daughters are married ; one to Bro . Tom Matthews , Royal Commemoration Lodge , and Secretary New Concord Lodge of Instruction ; and the other to Bro . Harry Willsmer , Elliot Lodge , No . 1567 , and Secretary Citadel Lodge of Instruction and its Masonic Charities Association , and Secretary Brondesbury Lodge of Instruction and the Masonic Charities Association . The funeral will take place to-morrow ( Saturday ) at 1 . 30 , at Abney Park Cemetery .
