ensuing week , and appointed his officers in rotation . At the third rising , a vote of thanks was recorded to Bro . W . Truman for the excellent manner in which he had fulfilled Ihe duties of the chair for the first time in the Iodue . The Secretary then took the names of brethren willing to take part in the 15 Sections on October 24 th , and all Masonic business being ended , the lodge was closed .

The appearance of the Grand Master was announced by a Herald on a trumpet , and acknowledged with Grand Lodge honours . He wis conducted to the throne in due form , accompanied by the Grand Lodge Officers ,

who occupied seats on his light and left . The Grand Master proceeded to open Grand Lodge , and asked the Grand Secretary , Bro . Arthur H . Bray , to read that portion of the minutes relating to the election of Grand Lodge Officers . This being concluded , the Herald sounded his trumpet , and the Grand Director ot Ceremonies , srandin-r in front of the altar ,

proclaimed the Grand Master forthe first time . Then followed an anthem by the choir , and thc proclamations by the S . G . W . in the west and J . G . W . in thc south . Thc GRAND MASTER then delivered the following addiess : Worshipiul Brethren and Brethren , 1 desire , very sincerely , to return you my heartfelt thanks for yutir renewed confidence in electing me for thc second

time as your Grand Master . When you elected me last year you did so , I feel sure , on account of the position 1 occupied in the colony , and I assure you it is a matter of great gratification to me now , after occupying the chair of Grand Lodge for 12 months , to be again elected to fill that high position in thc Craft . I am quite alive to the fact that my official duties prevent

me devoting so much of my time as 1 should like to the interests of the Craft ; but it has been my desire , as far as practicable , to visit the lodges , and I have had great pleasure in doing so on several occasions , both here and in the country districts , and I take this opportunity to thank the brethren of the country districts which I have visited for the very fraternal welcome

extended to me on all occasions . When visiting the sister colony of Queensland this month I received an address from the brethren of Brisbane , cordially welcoming me to their city as your Grand Master . It is very pleasing for me to be able to report that , notwithstanding the wave of depression which has been pissing over our colony since my arrival amongst you ,

Freemasonry has , nevertheless , progressed ; and , although some of the lodges are not so numerically strong as they were a year ago , yet , by the exercise of a little internal economy , they are all in a sound , healthy condition , and the balance sheet of the Grand Lodge shows an increase of over , £ 500 on the year ' s transactions . Five new lodges have been opened during the year at

Balranald , Dungog , Germanton , Bingera , and Drutnmoyne , and this clearly shows the progress we have made , audi think it is a matter for much congratulation that during a season of great depression our Craft has not only weathered the storm , but has made considerable headway . 1 have to thank the Grand Lodge Officers , one and all , especially the Grand Secretary , for the assistance they have rendered me duringthe year , and I

much regret that we have lost the services of Bro . the Hon . Dr . Harman J . Tarrant , who has left the country . I have not yet appointed his successor , but I have every reason to believe that the whole Craft in New South Wales will be pleased with my appointment when I can make known the name of the highly accomplished and distinguished brother whom 1 hope to appoint as Pro Grand Master .

The Deputy G . M ., Bro . Ihomas h . Spencer , was then presented to the Grand Master , obligated , and invested . The Grand Officers fu 18 95 were also presented . The GUANO MASTKR announced that the Masonic Charity Ball , which is lo take the place of the annual festival , would beheld on thc 3 ist July . Grand Lodge was then closed in ample form .

This lodge , which has been working at Lomas do Zamora , near Buenos Ayres , Argentine Republic , ior some months , under a provisional warrant , having received its warrant of Constitution from the M . W . G . M ., was duly consecrated on the 2 nd of August , 1 S 94 , by

Bro . Charles Trevor Mold , P . D . S . G . W ., and D . G . Sec , in representation of the D . G . M ., Bro . George John Ryan , who was , owing to illness , unable to perform thc ceremony himself . enables a brother to travel throughout the civilised world , and everywhere find himself amongst friends , while at the same time it allowed men of different languages , religions , and nationalities , to know and appreciate each other . BISHOP KENNION AND THE FREEMASONS

A ORACKI-UL FAREWELL . One of the lirst farewell addresses received by Bishop Reunion upon his approaching departure to England was that presented to him on Monday evening , August 20 th , in the Freemasons' Hall , Flinders-street , by the brethren of St . Alban Lodge , No . 3 S ( S . A . C . ) ,

through which lodge the Bishop was initiated into the Order some time ago . About Go brethren attended the special meeting on that day , the number including visitors from sister lodges . The lodge was in mourning out of respect to the memory of the late Bro . the Rev . B . C . Stephenson , who was Chaplain to Bishop Kennion .

The W . M ., Bro . A . B . MONCRIKIT , said thc death of Bro . Stephenson vvas a . loss to the Masonic Craft in general , and to St . Alban Lodge in particular . Their late brother was a good man , an ornament to the Church , and by his calm and serene life showed that he was devoted to the principles ot Freemasonry .

The Dead March in 'Saul" was played by the Organist , and the choir rendered " Thou wilt keep his soul in perfect peace " most effectively . At the request of the W .. VL , the Secretary of the lodge , Bro . J . EUVVIN THOMAS , then read the following address , which was engrossed on parchment and enclosed in a Morocco case :

" Right Reverend and Dear Brother—1 our translation to the historic See of Bath and Wells affords an opportunity to Ihe brethren of Lodge St . Alban to offer you their congratulations upon your preferment . Desiring to avail themselves ot such opportunity they have deputed us , in their name and on their behalf , to tender vou their hearty good wishes on this mark of

favour bestowed upon you by Her Gracious Majesty the Queen . Whilst deeply regretting the loss which the lodge will sustain by your departure , your brethren will ever retain most pleasurable recollections of your association with them in the Ancient Fraternity of Freemasons . They desire the acceptance by you of this expression of their great esteem for you and

their best wishes lor your future happiness . —We are . Right Reverend and Dear Brother , yours very fraternally , A . B . MONCRIKIT , Master ; F . H . SNOW , Senior Warden ; E . B . GRUNDY , Junior Warden . " Bro . A . G . PENDLETON , l . P . M ., said that for two years Bro . Dr . Kennion filled the position of Chaplain of the lodge , and it was a source of intense pleasure to

have him with them . Their brother was only prevented from attending lodge oftener by the assiduous , earnest , and zealous attention which he was called upon to give to his more important duties throughout the diocese . Bros . F . H . S NOW , E . B . GRUNDY , M . SAI . OM , Dr . BARLOW , P . M ., and J . EDWIN THOMAS , P . M ., spoke

in appreciative terms of their association with the Bishop , and in high praise of his life and work during his occupancy of the See of Adelaide . The address was conveyed to Bro . Kennion by Bro . R . Kyffin Thomas , the S . D . The Bisiioi ' , in reply , said he was very much touched by thc words which had bcen spoken concerning his

late Chaplain . The address he would greatly prize to the end of his life as a token of the true fraternal feelings of his brethren in Lodge St . Alban . He did not recognise in himself all the virtues which they had been good enough to say he possessed , but he could at least claim to have striven to do his duty . Speaking of the architecture in England , rich in antiquity and

including monuments of the Masonic Craft , he said hc was very much interested in reading the other day that Bishop Joceline , of the See of Bath and Wells in 1229 , who did most towards the erection of the west front of the Wells Cathedral , had associated with himself in the erection of that part of the building certain Masons , whose names had bcen handed down to this day , and

the work of the Craft there was never to be forgotten . It was also interesting to learn that in some ancient charter given by that Bishop of some ground for the purpose of education , the land which hc procured was obtained from the very Masons who were associated with him in the building of that magnificent front of Wells Cathedral . He had , indeed , learnt that brotherly

sympathy was to hs found in Australia , and the marked and kindly sympathy which his brethren had left upon him would never fade . In that lodge he had not only found new brothers , but made strong and permanent friends . With that recollection he went away encouraged to his work in England . Their kindness there helped him to look for kindness elsewhere .
