Pearce . the proorietor , in his usual efficient style . . The cloth . removed , the > W . M . gave the loyal and Masonic toasts in amost becoming : and effective manner , remarking of her . Majesty that the only new thing he could nresent ' them about their beloved Queen was it was the 58 th anniversary of her ascending the throne .
The toasts were received most rovally . The toast of "The Pro G . M ., Dep . G . M ., and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " the W . M . remarked , always received its just reponse , as their labour was bestowed most ungrudgingly toivirds benefiting the Craft , as those who had the privilege of attending Grand Lodge could testify .
Bro . Cass , I . P . M ., next presented the toast of the W . M . remirking once more that he grasped the emblem of power with all sincritv , and proposed "The Health of the W . M . " For nearly 26 years he ( the W . M . ) had been a member of the lodge , and only through the various vicissitudes the lodge had undergone he had not been an active working member . That fact would explain why the I . P . M . had been voted to the chair before him although only a member for 10 years . However , during the while the W . M .
had not forsaken his mother lodge , but had fullv qualified himself in the beautiful reremnnies , and had carried out the tenets of Freemasonry in their entirety . Thus fully equipped , he would be enabled to carry out the duties of W . M . as the Past Masters had done in such an efficient manner , and every brother knew if it were possible , the W . M . would not only emulate those worthy brethren who had preceded Kim , but still hope to carry out the important duties even to a higher degree of perfection .
The toast was received with acclamation . T C W-M '' " '" reply , thanked Bra . Cass , I . P . M ., for the very kind expressions he had made towards him and also the cordial reception of the brethren . In corroboration of what the I . P . M . had stated , it was 19 years that very nighc that he was initiated , but although absent so often from the lodge since that time his attachment was still firm
. _ He had always associated himself with lodges of instruction , which had enabled him to perform any ceremony he might be called upon to carry out . He was proud to respond as W . M . of his mother lodge , and should continue to carry out the duties to upholders prestige . His earnest hope was that the lodge would have a happy year , and one thing which gave him great pleasure was the hearty reception and kindly spirit in which the brethren had met him ,
The W . M . next presented , what , to his mind , was the toast of the evening , that of " The Immediate . Past Master and Installing Master , Bro . T . R . Cass . " He said the year had heen a jubilee for the lodge , and one which had not been equalled in its history . Words failed him in expressing , the esteem the brethren held for Bro . Cass , and on their behalf he presented to him a most beautiful jewel for the verv excellent manner he had performed his duties , and also the Past Master ' s collar and- jewel so unanimously given by them . Might he live for many many years to wear the same , and honour the
Blackheath Lodge by his presence was their earnest hope . The toast was drunk most enthusiastically . In reply , Bro . Cass , I . P . M ., who received quite an ovation , said words failed him adequately 'to express his thanks for their very great generosity and also the hearty support he had received from the brethren since the time he had been connected with the lodge . Since his initiation by Bro . Stunt . P . M . Sec . he had endeavoured in nmninl .
, the best interests of the lodge and was proud that he merited the esteem of the brethren . He certainly took a great delight in Freemasonry , and had been fortunate in introducing good men and true into the lodge . The handsome jewel they had presented and decorated him with he assured the brethren he should treasure and wear with pride and admiration . He would , before closing his remarks , once more thank the officers of the lodge , who had been most faithful and had assisted him most efficiently throughout the term , especially in bringing the ladies' night to such a successful issue . Once again he most heartily thanked them .
The W . M . next gave the toast of " The Visitors , " in terms of great cordiality , giving them all a most hearty greeting . _ This was replied to most effectively by Bros . G . R . Langley , Dunstan , Stone , Turner , Derham , and Sparks , who complimented the lodge upon its wn'k , generosity , and benevolence , and specially referred to the admiraile work of Bro . Cass , the Installing Master .
The toast of "The Treasurer and Secretary and the Past Masters of the I ^ dge " received at the hands of the W . M . high eulogiums , well merited , and he congratulated himself upon having two such valuable officers . In reply , Bro . Morson , P . M ., Treas ., stated the lodge was in a sound position , but last year had been the most successful in more ways than one ; in its benevolence especially , as Bro . Cass had taken up to the Charities 100 guineas .
Bro . Stunt . P . M ., Sec , also thanked the W . M . for his kind remarks . He was proud of Bro . Cass , LP M ., his child , and was delighted with the excellent manner he had performed the installation ceremony .
The W . M . next presented the toast of "The Officersof the Lodge , " which he gave with great gratification , being proud of such a worthy array . Bro . Rice , S . W ., most ably responded , pledging each to do their utmost , and support the W . M . as far as possible . The Tyler ' s toast closed a most happy and eventful evening . An excellent programme of music was given , under the direction of Bro . Francois E . Choveaux , ably assisted by Miss Spells , Mdme . Alice Sampson , Mr . Geo . Goodwin , and Bro . John Woodley . Bro . Choveaux ably presided at the piano .
