PROVINCIAL GRAND LODGE OF LINCOLNSHIRE

INSTALLATION OF BRO . THE EARL OF YARBOROUGH AS PROVINCIAL GRAND MASTER .

Some 600 Freemasons of the Province of Lincolnshire assembled on Thursday , the 27 th ult ., at the Corn Exchange , Lincoln , for the installation of Bro . the Right Hon . the Earl of Yarborough , Past Grand Warden of England , as Provincial Grand Master by Bro .. the . Right Hon . the Earl of Lathom , G . C . B ., M . W . Pro Grand Master of England .

Prov . Grand Lodge was opened by the Deputy Prov . Grand Master , Bro . Marling Sissons , J . P ., D . L ., Past Asst . G . Dir . of Cers . of England , The financial statement showed a substantial balance in hand .

The Prov . Grand Registrar , Bro . Watson presented the annual returns of the lodges , which showed an increase in the number of the members , there being now 1131 Masons in Lincolnshire . The reports of the Committees of the Fund of Benevolence , the Oliver Memorial , the Smyth Scholarship , and the Sutcliffe Memorial , were presented , and Bro . Nesbitt submitted the accounts of the Funds , -which were in a satisfactory condition .

Bro . Nesbitt was re-appointed Prov . Grand Treasurer , and Bros . Norfolk and Smith , of Louth , were appointed Auditors . A sum of 25 guineas was granted to the Prov . Grand Charity Stewards , Bros . Beeson and Barratt , as a contribution to the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys . Fifty guineas were granted to the expenses of holding Provincial Grand Lodge from the General Fund .

It was d'cided to take an office in Lincoln for the use of the Provincial Grand Lodge in which the archives of the province might be deposited . The Pro Grand Master of England , Bro . the Karl of Lathom , G . C . B ., the Prov . Grand Masters , the Deputy Prov . Grand Masters , and other distinguished visitors entered in solemn procession and were saluted by the brethren . The visitors included the Duke of St . Albans and a large number of Grand Officers .

The DEPUTY PROV . GRAND MASTER reviewed the history of Masonry in I . incolnshire , and expressed gratification at the visit of Lord Lathom to the province , and presented him with an address of welcome . He alluded to the death of Bro . Alfred Kirk , of Gainsborb ' , and to the retirement of Bro . Smyth from the Provincial Mastership . Every Freemason in Lincolnshire rejoiced at the choice made by the M . W . the Grand Master of England of the Prov . Grand Master of Lincolnshire , the Right Hon . the Earl of Yarborough , of whose qualities he spoke in laudatory terms .

Bro . the Earl of LATHOM thanked the lodge sincerely for the kindly address of welcome , and said it pave him great pleasure to visit the province . The roll of Prov . Grand Officers and lodges having been called , the valedictory address of Bro . W . H . Smyth , Past Prov . Grand Master , was presented , a / . d a resolution of regret and gratitude was moved by Bro . HALL , seconded by Bro . NESBITT , and adopted . The address referred to Bro . Smyth's 50 vears connection with Masonry .

Grand Master , presided . There was also a large gathering of brethren present . The brethren assembled in the large hall , awaiting to receive the Prov . Grand Master and other Grand and Prov . After being duly saluted , the roll of lodges was called , and it is gratify , ing to know afl were represented . The Prov . DANIIV— "That the best thanks of the Prov . ( Irand Lodge be given to W . Bro . Stephenson , who has faithfully performed the duties of Treasurer for 17 years . " This was seconded by Bro . Col . DEAN , and carried unanimously . . At the close of business , the Prov . Grand Lodge was closed .

Subsequently many of the brethren partook of a banquet , presidid over by the Prov . Grand Master . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly given and responded to .

"

Bro . ihe Earl of EUSTON spoke in hopeful terms of the prospects of yf new lodge and in high praise of its first Master and list of founders . * J * expressed the pleasure it gave him to find Bro . Morrison in renewed healtn and as W . M . designate of the new lodge .
