VV . M . presided , and after the usual loyal and Masonic toasts had been honoured , Bro . Piercy proposed " Bro . Col . Foster Gough , LL . D ., Prov . G . M . of Staffordshire , P . P . G . S . B . England . " Bro . Piercy said their Prov . Grand Master was well known in that part of the province , and he had promoted the interests of the Craft to a very great degree . He might say that during the last 12 months the Prov . Grand Master had made no less than 52 visits to the various lodges , in the
province . Bro . Ramsdale proposed " The Health of the Deputy Prov . G . M ., Bro . Lieut .-Col . Bindley , and the rest of the Prov . Grand Officers of Staffordshire , Present and Past , " to which Bro . Mountford replied . Bro . Ashwell next submitted the toast of the evening , "The Health of the W . M ., Bro . G . W . Bradford , " and
at the outset of his remarks congratulated Bro . Bradford on his restoration to health . He proceeded to speak of the many excellent qualities possessed by the W . M ., and said he had worked his way up through all the various offices in the lodge , and they had every confidence that his work as Master of the lodge would be done efficiently and well and to the honour and glory of the Gordon Lodge . Bro . Taylor made some supplementary observations in
also speaking to the toast . In suitably responding , the W . M . said he was doubly proud of his position that night , because he was the first W . M . who was an initiate of the lodge . He then gave the toast of "The I . P . M ., Bro . Ashwell , " and spokeof the excellence of the work that brother had done during his year of office . Bro . Ashwell having acknowledged the toast ,
Bro . Bromley submitted " The Masonic Charities , " and referred to the fact that owing to recent agitation and inquiry the Boys' Charity would be placed in a position it had formerly occupied . Bro . Tunnicliffe replied , and pointed out that £ 40 , 000 was contributed annually by Masons in England . The remaining toasts included "'The Visitors , " "The Officers of the Gordon Lodge , " and the Tyler ' s toast .

lecture was delivered by Bro . M . C . Peck , Past Grand Standard Bearer of England , and Prov . Grand Secretary , on '' Freemasonry in the Last Century . " Theaddress comprised a sketch of the state of society in England at the period of the revival of 1717 , the Jacobites Risings in 1715 and 1745 , the tavern customs , Masonic usages and clothing , the two degrees then practised , the knaveries and remark-¦
able adventures of Cagliostro , his visit to the Lodge of Antiquity in 1786 , the pretended exposures of the Craft , the caricatures of Gilray and Hogarth , sufferings of John Coustos , inauguration of Robert Burns in Edinburgh , & c . The lecture was illustrated by many examples of ancient Masonic clothing and jewels , prints and engravings , including an interesting series of coloured drawings after rare
French engravings of 1745 . The address was received by the brethren with the most complimentary attention , and at its conclusion a vote of thanks was unanimously accorded to the lecturer . After the lodge was closed the brethren supped together , when the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured .

VV . M . presided , and after the usual loyal and Masonic toasts had been honoured , Bro . Piercy proposed " Bro . Col . Foster Gough , LL . D ., Prov . G . M . of Staffordshire , P . P . G . S . B . England . " Bro . Piercy said their Prov . Grand Master was well known in that part of the province , and he had promoted the interests of the Craft to a very great degree . He might say that during the last 12 months the Prov . Grand Master had made no less than 52 visits to the various lodges , in the
province . Bro . Ramsdale proposed " The Health of the Deputy Prov . G . M ., Bro . Lieut .-Col . Bindley , and the rest of the Prov . Grand Officers of Staffordshire , Present and Past , " to which Bro . Mountford replied . Bro . Ashwell next submitted the toast of the evening , "The Health of the W . M ., Bro . G . W . Bradford , " and
at the outset of his remarks congratulated Bro . Bradford on his restoration to health . He proceeded to speak of the many excellent qualities possessed by the W . M ., and said he had worked his way up through all the various offices in the lodge , and they had every confidence that his work as Master of the lodge would be done efficiently and well and to the honour and glory of the Gordon Lodge . Bro . Taylor made some supplementary observations in
also speaking to the toast . In suitably responding , the W . M . said he was doubly proud of his position that night , because he was the first W . M . who was an initiate of the lodge . He then gave the toast of "The I . P . M ., Bro . Ashwell , " and spokeof the excellence of the work that brother had done during his year of office . Bro . Ashwell having acknowledged the toast ,
Bro . Bromley submitted " The Masonic Charities , " and referred to the fact that owing to recent agitation and inquiry the Boys' Charity would be placed in a position it had formerly occupied . Bro . Tunnicliffe replied , and pointed out that £ 40 , 000 was contributed annually by Masons in England . The remaining toasts included "'The Visitors , " "The Officers of the Gordon Lodge , " and the Tyler ' s toast .

" Theaddress comprised a sketch of the state of society in England at the period of the revival of 1717 , the Jacobites Risings in 1715 and 1745 , the tavern customs , Masonic usages and clothing , the two degrees then practised , the knaveries and remark-¦
able adventures of Cagliostro , his visit to the Lodge of Antiquity in 1786 , the pretended exposures of the Craft , the caricatures of Gilray and Hogarth , sufferings of John Coustos , inauguration of Robert Burns in Edinburgh , & c . The lecture was illustrated by many examples of ancient Masonic clothing and jewels , prints and engravings , including an interesting series of coloured drawings after rare
French engravings of 1745 . The address was received by the brethren with the most complimentary attention , and at its conclusion a vote of thanks was unanimously accorded to the lecturer . After the lodge was closed the brethren supped together , when the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured .
