of the cares and responsibilities which rest upon his shoulders . Bro . IMRE KIRALFY , with whose name our readers must be familiar , was initialed , under the Scottish Constitution , in the Lodge of St . George , No . 333 , Glasgow , on the 13 th May , 186 S , but it is not till more than a quarter of a century later that we meet with him in the English Craft , and then we find him as one of the founders and first S . W . of the Empress Lodge , No . 2581 , which was constituted in 1895 , and of which in December , 1896 , he was installed W . M . On the 23 rd October , in the same year , he was exalted in Eccentric Chapter , No . 24 S 8 . In

1897 he assisted to found the Columbia Lodge , No . 2397 , and at the present time he occupies the chair of J . in the Bedford Chapter , No . 157 . He is also a Templar Mason , having been installed Knight of the Order in Faith and Fidelity Preceptory , No . 26 , last year , and in the A . and A . Rite is a member of Palestine Chapter , Rose Croix , No . 29 , and has taken the 30 . In behalf of our Institutions , he has done some admirable work , having served as many as seven Stewardships in all , and made himself a Vice-Patron of both our Schools and a Vice-President of the Benevolent Institution .

Bro . J AMES FERNANDEZ was initiated in the Royal Alfred Lodge , No . 780 , on the 24 th March , 1 S 65 . In February , 1886 , he joined the Drury Lane Lodge , and has since had the honour of being installed W . M . He was exalted a R . A . Mason in the Bayard Chapter , No . 1615 , on 6 th June , 1889 , and in June , 1894 , was installed in the chair of First Principal . He has been perfected Rose Croix in the A . and A . Rite , and is a Life Governor of the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls .

Bro . THOMAS CATLINQ , Editor of Lloyd ' s Weekly Newspaper , was initiated in the Drury Lane Lodge , No . 2127 , on the 9 th March , 1886 , and having towards the close of the same year enrolled himself as one of the founders of the Savage Club Lodge , No . 2190 , was on the 5 th February , 1 S 89 , installed in its chairas W . M . Five years later he was installed as Master of his mother lodge and thus has the

honour of being a Past Master of two of the most popular lodges in the Metropolis , while he is still rendering valuable service to the senior of them in the capacity of Treasurer . He is also a supporter of our Institutions and has enrolled himself as a Life Subscriber of both our Schools and a Life Governor of the Male Fund of our Royal Benevolent Institution .

PAST GRAND SWORD BEARERS . Bro . Capt . ROBERT GRESI - HALL , D . L ., C . C , has done the Masonic state good service during his career . He was initiated in the Lome Lodge , No . 1347 , Sutton , in the Province of Surrey , on the 13 th June , 1871 . In April , 1 S 75 , he joined the Royal Somerset House and Inverness Lodge , No . 4 , and having represented it on the Board of Grand Stewards in 1 S 80 , was the following year

installed its W . M . Since then—on the 9 th October , 1 S 93—he has been the principal founder of the 2 nd Middlesex Artillery Lodge , No . 24 S 4 , and had the honour of being chosen by the brethren to preside over its fortunes as W . M . during the first and most critical year of its existence . In Royal Arch Masonry he was exalted in the Victoria Chapter , No . 1056 , and is a Past Z . of the St . Albans Chapter , No . 29 , while , in 1 S 97 , in commemoration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee , he was one of the London companions selected to have Past

Rank as Officers of Supreme Grand Chapter conferred upon them , and was appointed Past G . S . Bearer . In the Order of the Temple , he is the senior member and a P . E . P . of the Holy Palestine Preceptory , No . 129 , in which he was installed a Knight in 1875 , and in 1886 was appointed 2 nd Great Aide-Camp of Great Priory in 1886 . He has likewise been perfected Rose Croix and besides qualifying as Life Governor of the three Institutions has served in their behalf six Stewardships , namely , three for the Girls ' , and two for the Boys' School , and one for the Benevolent Institution .

Bro . CHARLES DENNIS HOBLYN is also a brother of long standing , having been initiated in the St . Andrew ' s Lodge , No . 231 , on the 4 th April , 1872 , and 10 years later had the honour of being placed in the chair of W . M . He has also at different times been a member of the following lodges , namely -. The Thames Lodge , No . 18 95 , Henley , in the Province of Oxfordshire , in 1882 ; in 1 S 86 , the United Lodge of Prudence , No . 83 , over which he presided as Master in 1 S 93 ; and in 1896

, the Lodge of Friendship and Harmony , No . 1616 , Weybridge , in the I rovince of Surrey . As a Roval Arch Mason he was exalted in the Cyrus Chapter , No . 21 , about 187 S , and , having joined the Prince of Wales Chapter , No . 259 , was , on the 3 rd February last , installed in the chair of First Principal Z As regards our Charities , he is a Life Governor of , and has served two Stewardships for , the Boys' School , a Life Subscriber of the Girls' School , and a Life Governor of the Male Fund of the Benevolent Institution .

J AMES NEWTON has been a member of our Order for 35 years , and is one of the leading lights in the Province of East Lancashire , with which , indeed , he has been connected during the whole of his Masonic career . James of Jerusalem Preceptory in 1870 , and a P . M . P . S . of the St . George's Conclave of the Order of Rome and the Red Cross of Constantine . Lastly , he is a Vice-President , with three Stewardships , of the Benevolent Institution , and a Life Governor of the Boys' and Girls' Schools , for the former of which he has done duty as Steward at three Festivals , and for the latter at one Festival .

PAST GRAND STANDARD BEARERS . Bro . V . C . L . CRUMP is a prominent member of the Craft in Shropshire , and has just completed a membership of a quarter of a century . He was initiated in the Salopian Lodge of Charity , No . 117 , Shrewsbury , on the 28 th January , 1874 , and in December , 1881 , was installed W . M . In 1889 he became one of the founders , and was installed first W . M . of the St . Alkmund Lodge , No . 2311 ,

Whitchurch . From 1888 to 1892 he held the office of Prov . G . Treasurer , and in 1 893 his services generally were recognised by his appointment to the chair of Prov . J . G . W . He is likewise Past President and the present Hon . Secretary of the Shropshire Masonic Charitable Association . He was exalted a Royal Arch Mason on the 3 rd April , 18 7 6 , in the Salopian Chapter , No . 262 , Shrewsbury , and in January , 1885 , was installed M . E . Z ., but there is no Prov . G ,

Chapter of Shropshire , and therefore . Comp . Crump is not a Provincial Officer in this branch of Masonry . In Mark Masonry , however , in addition to being a P . M . of the Tudor Lodge of Rifle Volunteers , No . 290 , Wolverhampton , and one of the founders , and P . M . of the Shropshire Lodge , No . 444 , Shrewsbury , he is Past Prov . G . M . O . of Staffordshire . He is also a member of the Pengwerne Chapter Rose Croix , No . 141 , Shrewsbury , in which he was perfected in July of last year . At the present time he is

discharging the duties of the following offices , namely , those of Hon . Treasurer of the Salopian Lodge of Charity , No . 117 , and the lodge of instruction working under its authority ; the Salopian Chapter , No . 262 , and Shropshire Mark Lodge , No . 444 , and those of Hon . Secretary of the Tudor R . V . Mark Lodge , No . 290 , and the Shropshire Charitable Association , as already mentioned . He has four times served as a Festival Steward for the Girls' School , once for the Old People , and twice for the Boys' School , and is a Life Governor of them all .

Bro . HENRY A . TOBIAS is a Mason of 30 years ' standing , having been initiated in the True Craftsman's Lodge , No . 651 on the register of the Grand Lodge of New York , U . S . A ., in April , 1869 . His connection with the English Craft dates from the ist October , 18 77 , when he joined the Skelmersdale Lodge , No . 1380 , Liverpool , resigning his membership in 1884 . Having joined the Lodge of Israel , No . 1502 , Liverpool , in March , 1878 , he was installed W . M . in November , 1879 ,

and four years later was honoured by being installed for a second term of office , while in 1881 , he was appointed Provincial Grand Superintendent of Works West Lancashire . Oa taking up his residence in London , he joined the Montefiore Lodge , No . 101 7 , in January , 18 93 , and resigned in 1896 , in which year , however , he became a joining member of the Royal Naval Lodge , No . 59 , and at the present time occupies the chair of J . W .

He was exalted a Royal Arch Mason in Ancient Chapter , No . 1 , New York , in October , 1869 . In 1 S 79 he joined the Temple Chapter , No . 1094 , Liverpool , but resigned membership in 1884 . In 1881 he was a founder and first j . of the Israel Chapter , No . 1502 , and served two years as M . E . Z . In 1883 he joined the Sefton Chapter , No . 680 , Liverpool , and in 18 S 9 the Chapter of Friendship , No . 241 , both meeting in Liverpool . Since living in London he has become a joining member of , and has twice presided over , the Montefiore Chapter , No .

1017 , and is also a member of Royal Naval Chapter , No . 59 , which he joined last year . In 1891 he was appointed Prov . G . D . C . of the Prov . G . Chapter of West Lancashire , and in 1897—the year of the Queen ' s Diamond Jubilee—he had conferred upon him the brevet rank of Past G . Standard Bearer of Supreme G . Chapter . As regards our Charities , Bro . Tobias has done good service , having served in all nine Stewardships—three for each of the Institutions—and qualified for each of them as Life Governor .

PAST GRAND ORGANISTS . Bro . J LIONET , A . MONCKTON , a son of that eminent and popular Mason , Bro . Sir John B . Monckton , P . G . W ., Town Clerk of the City of London , was installed in the Apollo University Lodge , No . 357 , Oxford , in February , 1 S 81 , while an undergraduate of Oriel College , and has held oflice in the Prov . G .

Lodge of Oxfordshire , firstly as Prov . G . Steward in 1881 , and the following year as Prov . G . Sword Bearer . In January , 1885 , he joined Jerusalem Lodge , No . 197 , and having represented it as G , Steward in 1888 , was installed W . Master in 1889 . He has also served on the Board of General Purposes , and is a Life Governor of both our Schools . As he is a musician of ability and ever-increasing reputation , the honour now conferred upon him is a most appropriate one .

Bro . HERMANN KLEIN , who is a musician of distinction , was initiated In the Empire Lodge , No . 3108 , on the 26 th March , 188 9 , and installed W . Master on the 24 th January , 18 95 , having in the interim become a founder ok , the Guildhall School of Music Lodge , No . 2454 . He is also a Royal Arch Mason , having been exalted on the 7 th March , 1892 , in the Empire Chapter , No . 2108 , and installed in the chair of First Principal on the 7 th March , 1898 .

Mark Lodge . The ballot was unanimously favourable , and Bros . Robinson , Elliott , and Gibbs being in attendance , were introduced and elevated to the Degree by the newly-enthroned W . C . N , in an able manner , after which Bro . Robinson was invested as Guardian . The resignation of Bro . Woolmer Williams was accepted with regret , and letters of apology owing to sickness was received from the Serine ( B . o . Sunnard ) , and Bro . Henry Wright , I . P . M . Lodge was then closed . The brethren afterwards dined together at Freemasons' Tavern .

is a Past G . P . Cond . of Work of the Grand Council ; is a member of the Allied Degrees , a Knight Templar—having been installed as such in the St . James of Jerusalem Preceptory in 1870 , and a P . M . P . S . of the St . George's Conclave of the Order of Rome and the Red Cross of Constantine . Lastly , he is a Vice-President , with three Stewardships , of the Benevolent Institution , and a Life Governor of the Boys' and Girls' Schools , for the former of which he has done duty as Steward at three Festivals , and for the latter at one Festival .

PAST GRAND STANDARD BEARERS . Bro . V . C . L . CRUMP is a prominent member of the Craft in Shropshire , and has just completed a membership of a quarter of a century . He was initiated in the Salopian Lodge of Charity , No . 117 , Shrewsbury , on the 28 th January , 1874 , and in December , 1881 , was installed W . M . In 1889 he became one of the founders , and was installed first W . M . of the St . Alkmund Lodge , No . 2311 ,

Whitchurch . From 1888 to 1892 he held the office of Prov . G . Treasurer , and in 1 893 his services generally were recognised by his appointment to the chair of Prov . J . G . W . He is likewise Past President and the present Hon . Secretary of the Shropshire Masonic Charitable Association . He was exalted a Royal Arch Mason on the 3 rd April , 18 7 6 , in the Salopian Chapter , No . 262 , Shrewsbury , and in January , 1885 , was installed M . E . Z ., but there is no Prov . G ,

Chapter of Shropshire , and therefore . Comp . Crump is not a Provincial Officer in this branch of Masonry . In Mark Masonry , however , in addition to being a P . M . of the Tudor Lodge of Rifle Volunteers , No . 290 , Wolverhampton , and one of the founders , and P . M . of the Shropshire Lodge , No . 444 , Shrewsbury , he is Past Prov . G . M . O . of Staffordshire . He is also a member of the Pengwerne Chapter Rose Croix , No . 141 , Shrewsbury , in which he was perfected in July of last year . At the present time he is

discharging the duties of the following offices , namely , those of Hon . Treasurer of the Salopian Lodge of Charity , No . 117 , and the lodge of instruction working under its authority ; the Salopian Chapter , No . 262 , and Shropshire Mark Lodge , No . 444 , and those of Hon . He has four times served as a Festival Steward for the Girls' School , once for the Old People , and twice for the Boys' School , and is a Life Governor of them all .

Bro . HENRY A . TOBIAS is a Mason of 30 years ' standing , having been initiated in the True Craftsman's Lodge , No . 651 on the register of the Grand Lodge of New York , U . S . A ., in April , 1869 . His connection with the English Craft dates from the ist October , 18 77 , when he joined the Skelmersdale Lodge , No . 1380 , Liverpool , resigning his membership in 1884 . Having joined the Lodge of Israel , No . 1502 , Liverpool , in March , 1878 , he was installed W . M . in November , 1879 ,

and four years later was honoured by being installed for a second term of office , while in 1881 , he was appointed Provincial Grand Superintendent of Works West Lancashire . Oa taking up his residence in London , he joined the Montefiore Lodge , No . 101 7 , in January , 18 93 , and resigned in 1896 , in which year , however , he became a joining member of the Royal Naval Lodge , No . 59 , and at the present time occupies the chair of J . W .

He was exalted a Royal Arch Mason in Ancient Chapter , No . 1 , New York , in October , 1869 . In 1 S 79 he joined the Temple Chapter , No . 1094 , Liverpool , but resigned membership in 1884 . In 1881 he was a founder and first j . of the Israel Chapter , No . 1502 , and served two years as M . E . Z . In 1883 he joined the Sefton Chapter , No . 680 , Liverpool , and in 18 S 9 the Chapter of Friendship , No . 241 , both meeting in Liverpool . Since living in London he has become a joining member of , and has twice presided over , the Montefiore Chapter , No .

1017 , and is also a member of Royal Naval Chapter , No . 59 , which he joined last year . In 1891 he was appointed Prov . G . D . C . of the Prov . G . Chapter of West Lancashire , and in 1897—the year of the Queen ' s Diamond Jubilee—he had conferred upon him the brevet rank of Past G . Standard Bearer of Supreme G . Chapter . As regards our Charities , Bro . Tobias has done good service , having served in all nine Stewardships—three for each of the Institutions—and qualified for each of them as Life Governor .

PAST GRAND ORGANISTS . Bro . J LIONET , A . MONCKTON , a son of that eminent and popular Mason , Bro . Sir John B . Monckton , P . G . W ., Town Clerk of the City of London , was installed in the Apollo University Lodge , No . 357 , Oxford , in February , 1 S 81 , while an undergraduate of Oriel College , and has held oflice in the Prov . G .

Lodge of Oxfordshire , firstly as Prov . G . Steward in 1881 , and the following year as Prov . G . Sword Bearer . In January , 1885 , he joined Jerusalem Lodge , No . 197 , and having represented it as G , Steward in 1888 , was installed W . Master in 1889 . He has also served on the Board of General Purposes , and is a Life Governor of both our Schools . As he is a musician of ability and ever-increasing reputation , the honour now conferred upon him is a most appropriate one .

Bro . HERMANN KLEIN , who is a musician of distinction , was initiated In the Empire Lodge , No . 3108 , on the 26 th March , 188 9 , and installed W . Master on the 24 th January , 18 95 , having in the interim become a founder ok , the Guildhall School of Music Lodge , No . 2454 . He is also a Royal Arch Mason , having been exalted on the 7 th March , 1892 , in the Empire Chapter , No . 2108 , and installed in the chair of First Principal on the 7 th March , 1898 .

Mark Lodge . The ballot was unanimously favourable , and Bros . Robinson , Elliott , and Gibbs being in attendance , were introduced and elevated to the Degree by the newly-enthroned W . C . N , in an able manner , after which Bro . Robinson was invested as Guardian . The resignation of Bro . Woolmer Williams was accepted with regret , and letters of apology owing to sickness was received from the Serine ( B . o . Sunnard ) , and Bro . Henry Wright , I . P . M . Lodge was then closed .
