Star Chapter ( No .: 1275 ) . —A convocation of this chapter was held at the Guildhall Tavern , on Tuesday , the 25 th ult . Present : Comps . C . N . McIntyre North , M . E . Z . ; Meierhoff , H . ; Grummant , P . Z ., acting J . ; Woolmer Williams , P . Z ., S . E . ; H . Payne Makeham , c HJ •W . Eckersall , P . S . ; J . H . Edwardes , 2 nd A . S . ; F Hilton , P-Z . ; G . Benedetti , P . Z .: G .. Elliott , P . Z . ;

las . Hill , LP . Z . 1329 ; C . Lazenby , P . Z . 297 , P . P . G . Reg . Lincoln ; P . H . Horley , 2026 ; C . H . Stone , A , Fry . R . Barr , J . S . Targett , 1275 ; and C . Patrick , P . Z ., janitor . The chapter was opened , a conclave of Installed Principals constituted , and Comp . Harry G . Martin , J . elect , Ivas presented by Comp . Hilton , and duly installed by the M . E . Z . in the chair of J . After an inaugural address by

the M . E . Z ., the minutes of the last convocation were read and confirmed . The M . E . Z then delivered , with the aid of tracing boards , a very interesting lecture , illustrated by diagrams . The lecture , for which the evening had been set apart for the instruction of the newly-exalted companions , was listened to with marked attention by a highly critical and appreciative audience .

The chapter was then closed , and the companions adjourned to banquet . The usual loyal and Royal Arch toasts having been given and duly honoured , Comp . Woolmer Williams , S . E ., proposed " The Health of the M . E . Z ., Comp . North . " In the absence of the LP . Z . it was his peculiar privilege as well as pleasure to propose the health of the M . E . Z ., and trusted he might long be

with them after he passed the chair . They knew him to be an able worker , but the masterly and comprehensive lecture delivered that evening in the chapter was a revelation to many , and proved that the M . E . Z . thoroughly understood the hidden mysteries , and worthily upheld the high standard which the Star Chapter prided itself the Principals had always maintained .

The M . E . Z ., in returning thanks , accepted the hearty greeting , he must confess , as a matter of course , for he did not know of a more hearty , good-natured , and forgiving set of companions . They had encouraged him to add another Latin word to the fist he had delivered that evening , and would without misgiving cry peccavi , as they always forgave any fault , and overlooked all shortcomings

in their officers so long as they did their best to maintain the reputation of the chapter . The M . E . Z ., Comp . North , in giving the next toast , said the presence of visitors was a great inducement for the members of a lodge or chapter to pull themselves together . There were three points with regard to their visitors that evening to which he would call attention .

They had the perfect number ( three ) of perfect Masons , and felt perfect satisfaction at being honoured with their presence . Comp . Hill was well known as an able worker in the numerous Degrees to which he belonged ; Comp . Lazenby , P . P . G . Reg . Lincolns-hire , had a well-earned reputation ; and Comp . Horley , he was sure from the attention he had given , would worthily in the future- maintain the credit of our ancient Institution .

Comp . C . Lazenby , 297 , in reply , expressed his pleasure at being placed with Comp . Hill to reply for the visitors , and at the reception he had received . He had accepted the invitation to be present that evening to listen to the lecture by the M . E . Z ., because it was the first time he had known it to be delivered in London . He had looked forward with interest to the event , but the whole of the points were so

ably explained , that his enjoyment had far surpassed his expectations . Comp . 1 . Hill , 132 CJ , first thanked the M . E . Z . for his kind invite , and said that , being himself rather a deep student in Freemasonry , he was much interested ; but the lecture was onl y what he expected it would be from the author of " wisdom , strength , and beauty . " It was the first time he

had heard a lecture delivered in a Royal Arch chapter , and [ he Star o' the North had shed so great a light on the subjects discussed , that he hoped he ( the M . E . Z . ) would be able to find an opportunity for more fully explaining the symbolic meaning of the distinctive bearings on the ensigns _ which he had drawn with so skilful a hand , as the subj ' ect alone would suffice for an evenincr ' s instruction .

1 hanking the companions for their cordial reception at his hrst visit to the chapter , he hoped that it would not be the last time that he and his . companion visitors would have that pleasure . Comp . Meierhoff , H ., in returning thanks for " The H . and , J . i" said their M . E . Z . promised the companions on Weir ( the H . and I . ' s ) behalf a burst of Masonic eloquence

ana a Rood of rhetoric ; but after the lecture , the dinner , and the speeches of the M . E . Z ., a burst or flood of any fort was not desirable . " Sufficient for the day was the evil thereof . " Comp . Martin , J . ( after apologising for not sending a telegram from Germany at the last meeting ) , followed in "ie same humorous style , both returning with interest the
