The Chairman of the Charity Committee announced that at the last meetingof that body three petitions for relief were presented and considered . He proposed the suspension of By-law 42 . Bro . LUPTON seconded , and the ACTING PROV . GRAND MASTER acquiesced . Bro . Fox then moved that a grant of £ 10 should be made in each of the three cases . This was seconded by Bro . LUPTON , and carried .
A cordial invitation to Provincial Grand Lodge by Bro . C . PAWSON , W . M . 296 , to hold its October meeting under the banner of Royal Brunswick Lodge , Sheffield , was then given . Bro . Pawson , in kindly terms , hoped that the Prov . Grand Master would accede to his request , and thus assist them worthily to celebrate the centenary of their lodge .
The ACTING PROV . GRAND MASTER did not doubt but the invitation of Bro . Pawson would be as favourably considered as it was heartily given . The Provincial Grand Lodge was then closed . Dinner was served in the Banquet Hall . The acting . Prov . G . M ., Bro Henry Smith , took the chair , and was supported by about 80 brethren .

CONSECRATION OF TEE KING SOLOMON CHAPTER , No . 2029 .
The Lodge of King Solomon , to which this new chapter is attached , was consecrated on May 31 st , 1884 , and was one of the first temperance edges in this country . On November 5 th , 1887 , the King Solomon Mark Lodge , No . 385 , was consecrated , it being probably the first Masonic body consisting exclusively of teetotalers . This latter has had one continuous
run of harmony and brotherly love from its foundation to the present day , practically realising " how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwel together in unity . " The King Solomon Chapter has long been in contemplation , but it is through the untiring zeal of Comp . Major Thos . VV . Richardson , P . Z . 141 , and H . 1929 , that it has now been brought into
existence . The consecration took place on Monday , the 24 th ult ., at the Mark Masons' Hall , Great Queen-street , W . C , and this is the first Royal Arch chapter meeting there . The Consecrating Officer was Comp . E . Letchworth ,

The D . C . read the petition and the charter granted by the Supreme Grand Chapter , and the companions signified in the usual form their approval of the Principals , Z ., H ., and J ., who were nominated in the charter to
preside over the chapter . An excellent oration was delivered by Comp . the Rev . J . STUDHOLME BROWNRIGG , in which he laid great stress on temperance in all things , not not only in eating and drinking , but particularly in speech . The anthem which followed was well rendered , under the direction of Comp . Harry Tipper , Comp . W . J . Thrussell , presiding at the organ .

The wine used in consecrating was the pure non-alcholic "blood of the grape , " the members of the new chapter all being teetotalers . At the completion of the consecration service , the Principals were installed , the full service only being needed for the H . chair , that being a , bly rendered by Comp . Major-Gen . Hay . The other officers were then elected
and invested . The officers are Comps . Major Richardson , M . E . Z . ; Gowan H . ; Roy , J . ; Tipper , as I . P . Z . ; Macbean , Treas . ; Newnham , S . E . ; Dr . Williams , S . N . ; Capt . Sheffield , P . S . ; Knights , ist A . S . ; and ' . Mills , 2 nd A . S . Comp . E . J . Mills was elected Janitor . Comp . Mcbean , though intending to come from Scotland in order to be present , communicated at the last moment his inability to attend .
The by-laws , which were in circulation , were taken as read , and unanimously adopted , subject to proper authority . The Consecrating Officers were unanimously elected as Honorary members .
Several candidates were proposed for exaltation , after which the chapter was closed , and the members and visitors adjourned to the Holborn Restaurant . The banquet appeared to be thoroughly enjoyed by all , including the M . E . Z ., who , we may here mention , is a life vegetarian , having never eaten " flesh , fowl , or fish . " He was apparently well pleased with the pineapple , strawberries , grapes , and other fruits which graced the table .
According to temperance custom , the companions were asked to " Rise to the sentiment of the Queen , " which , as with all loyal Masons , was heartil y responded to . The customary " sentiments " ( toasts ) were responded to with enthusiasm and goodwill , while the evening was enlivened between the " sentiments " by selections by the Royal Criterion Quartette , under the direction of Comp . Harry Tipper .

The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed , the roll was called , all the chapters in the province being represented . The sum of 20 guineas was voted to the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls . The GRAND SUPERINTENDENT then addressed the companions . He
expressed his great gratification at the increase , though small , in the number of Royal Arch Masons in the province within the last two years , and earnestly hoped the Order , for which he had great affection , would continue to prosper . He next proceeded to point out certain combinations of letters known to Royal Arch Masons , and , in an interesting and instructive manner , entered
into a method of elaborating their use . The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed , the roll was called , all the chapters in the province being represented . The sum of 20 guineas was voted to the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls . The GRAND SUPERINTENDENT then addressed the companions . He
expressed his great gratification at the increase , though small , in the number of Royal Arch Masons in the province within the last two years , and earnestly hoped the Order , for which he had great affection , would continue to prosper . He next proceeded to point out certain combinations of letters known to Royal Arch Masons , and , in an interesting and instructive manner , entered
into a method of elaborating their use .
