and that the whole of the Past Masters of the lodge be appointed a deputation to present it to his lordship . The suggestion was agreed to , and the requisite arrangements were ordered to be made accordingly . Several propositions for initiation were made , and the lodge then adjourned to

the refreshment room , where the Royal and Masonic toasts were given and heartily responded to . The harmony was supplied by Bro . I ' " erry and Richardson , of Lodge No . 4 S , and other brethren . Altogether a most enjoyable and profitable evening was spent .

STOCKTON-UPON-TEES .-Fraternity Lodge ( No . 141 S ) . —The annual installation meeting of this Iodge was held on the 27 th ult ., at the Freemasons' Hall , when Bro . Pickering was installed W . proposed and received with the customary honours . In responding to the toast of "The Right Hon . the Earl of Lathom , R . W . D . G . M ., the Prov . G . M ., and the rest of the Prov . Grand Officers , Present and Past , " Bro . J . Houlding eulogistically referred to Bro . Alpass ' s appointment as Grand Standard Bearer of England , and said also that a little bird had whispered to him that Bro . Alpass was about to receive the honour of beinc elevated to the

magisterial bench of Liverpool . Some men commanded that honour because they had money , and others because of party services , but Bro . Alpass had well earned that honour by his services for the public benefit , and he now received his reward . He ( the speaker ) was sure he expressed the opinion of every one present when he said that

iliey all wished to congratulate their brother upon the honour that had been conferred upon him . In the after proceedings Bro . Thomas Evans , I . P . M ., was presented by the W . M . with a handsome Past Master ' s jewel on behalf of the lodge , and also with a costly marble timepiece , presented by Bros , W , J . Turton and Gannon

The Auditors' report being considered satisfactory , and showing

Notts , C Jacoby , Treas . 411 ; and Jas . Stevens , the lodge was closed in ancient form , and the brethren adjourned for refreshments , and spent a very musical and harmonious evening together .

in due form , and the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed . The W . M . then worked the ceremony of initiation , Bro . Cant , candidate . Bro . VV . Richardson next worked the First , Second , Third , and Fourth Sections of the Lecture , assisted by the brethren . Bro . J . S . Fraser was unanimously elected VV . Lodge was closed down , and Bro . Money gave an explanation of the Tracing Board of the Second Degree . Bro . A . Scheerboom , P . M ., was unanimously elected W . Sec . Some points of great importance were fully discussed , and ultimately a Life Governorship was drawn for by ballott resulting in the favour of the wife of Bro . Gregory , the worthy Host of the Silver Tavern , Bro . Stephens acting as Scrutineer . 'The usual vote of thanks to the presidin <> - officer closed the proceedings . "

'This was heard with profound regret , and it was unanimously agreed that Bro . P . M . Barnes be requested to sec Bro . Cross and ask him kindly to reconsider his decision . 'This Bro . Barnes kindly undertook to perform and lodge was closed .

DALHOUSIE LODGE ( No . 860 ) . —The regular meetings of the above lodge were continued on the 25 th ult ., at Bro . VV . Smyth ' s , Sisters' Tavern , Pownall-road , Dalston . Present : Bros . A . After lodge had been duly opened , and minutes submitted and confirmed , the ceremony of initiation was worked , Bro Carr acting as candidate . Bro . Christian gave a lecture upon the Tracing Board of the Degree , and subsequently Bro . Carr worked the First and Second Sections of the

Lecture , the brethren assisting . Bro . T . Clark was elected W . M . for the ensuing week , a good muster being expected next Tuesday evening . A cordial vote of thanks was passed in favour of Bro . A . Clark , for so ably occupying the chair of the lodge for the first time . Lodge was then closed .

J . Warren and Taylor , exalted to that Sublime Degree . The beautiful ceremony was commenced bv Comp . E . West , AI . E . Z ., assisted by ALE . Comps . W . Weston , J . Scott Alutch . G . Kennedv . O . I . nrt .

and J . Wilkins , and was finished in admirable manner by ALE . Comp . Lieut . Col . A . Richardson , P . Z . 1331 , and r , r ,. Provlncial Grand Re ff istrar . Hants and the Isle of Wight . the AI . E . Z . and said he was sure they were proud to have such an excellent Alason as Comp . West at the head of the chapter , and must congratulate him on having so distinguished a brother as their now Excellent Comp . Baron de Worms come amongst them during his ( Comp . Weston s ) year of office . He ( Comp . VVeston ) would now take the opportunity of thanking Baron de Worms for a good act , and one of great kindness , done bv him in th «

case of the daughters of a deceased brother and naval officer , who , through the assistance of that worthy companion , were now receiving a grant for two years from the Compassionate Fund at the Admiralty , with a hint to apply again when that time was up . ( Cheers . ) That was a single instance of the many excellent services the Baron had done in the borough , and he felt sure that the companions of the Union Waterloo Chapter would mark that

nay as a red-letter one in their annals . ( Applause . ) Comp . West briefly returned thanks , and certainly felt proud of being the Z . of such a chapter , and especially upon such an occasion when so popular a man , and so excellent a Alason as their exalted Comp . Baron de Worms came under his hands for the benefit of exaltation . ( Cheers . ) He then proposed "The Exaltees , " coupled with the name of Comp . Baron H . de Worms .

magisterial bench of Liverpool . Some men commanded that honour because they had money , and others because of party services , but Bro . Alpass had well earned that honour by his services for the public benefit , and he now received his reward .
