The Worshipful Master paid a well-deserved tribute to the impressive efficiency of the Installing Master , who , on rising to respond , must have been gratified with the enthusiastic reception he received . Bro . Abraham Meier , I . P . M ., thanked the officers and brethren for their general support during his year of office , but especially for the honour they did him in sending him as a Steward to the Boys' Festival with the highest list of all th : Surrey lodges .
In the course of the evening the W . M . took the opportunity of expressing his fratification in being able to invest his old official friend , Bro . W . J . Huntley , as reasurerof the lodge . Bro . Steggles must have been pleased with his first night in the chair , and as the lodge is in a thoroughly good financial position , and is young and vigorous , he should be in a good way to enjoy the prosperous year his numerous friends so enthusiastically wished him .
During the evening a subscription was commenced by Bro . T . H . Roberts , P . After "The Queen and Craft" and "H . R . H . the Prince of Wales " had been toasted , the W . M . proposed "The Grand Officers . "
Bro . R . Loveland Loveland , President of the Board of General Purposes , in reply , said , Ve wished more Grand Officers had been present to have been delighted with the way in which the I . P . M . did his work . He had been pleased to see the Dep . Prov . G . M ., Bro . Thrupp , because they did not see him in London as often as they wished , as illness had prevented him from coming amongst them . Personally , he was exceedingly obliged for the invitation to be present because the I . P . M . was
an old friend of his at the Bar , and the present VV . M . was one under whom he served for seven years , during which time he did not think they had a wry word . He had known the W . M . for 31 years , and had seen him in and out of Masonry , and could assure them that they were exceedingly fortunate in having such a W . M . There were few lodges with a Grand Officer at the head , and with such a genial , good friend as W . M ., he could only say he wished prosperity to the lodge .

Bro . W . Ganz , P . G . Oig ., also replied , and said he was appointed G . Organist 1871 , when musical brethren were not so numerous , and such musical lodges as the Orpheus and Sterndale Bennett had not been established . " The Provincial Grand Master , Lord Geo . Hamilton , M . P ., and the Provincial Grand Officers " was next given by the W . M . He said they owad a debt of gratitude to Bro . Thrupp , the Deputy Prov . G . M ., for coming from the other end of the county to help the lodge and honour him by installing him . _ To have the ceremony performed in such a perfect manner was a double honour , especially when it was rendered b y one
with whom he was associated nearly 40 years ago . Wherever Bro . Thrupp went in the province he was heartily welcomed , and a sincere desire was ex pressed to see him again . Bro . Raymond H . Thrupp , Deputy Prov . G . M ., thanked the W . M . for calling to remembrance their old friendship . It was always a great pleasure to go abwt visiting lodges in the province over which he had been Deputy for 15 years , for he always received a hearty and sincere welcome , which made him feel that it was not only the Deputy they welcomed , but also Bro . Thrupp , as a friend . He remonstrated with Bro . Denniss , I . P . M ., who , however , insisted that he should pe-form the installation , and as
they were taught obedience , he had come do . vn and had the honour of installing * the W . M . He thought that lodge had done a great deed for itself in having such a W . M . The Herga Lodge had already made a name in the province , and he felt sure that under the presidency of the W . M . it would increase its prestige . He always impressed upon the brethren that one man , however good , could not make a lodge , for , although he might do a great deal , unless assisted by every brother he could do little . He relied upon the members to assist in making that one cf th : most prosperous years the lodge had had .
" The Health of the Worshipful Master " was proposed by Bro . Bartley Denniss , I . P . M ., who said it was a happy inspiration which prompted him to ask their present W . M ., as an old Mason and one well known in the county , to help them in the formation of the lodge . Bro . Littler immediately cmsented with great pleasure , and acted as I . P . M . for the first year . Their W . M . was the Chairman of the County Council , and in that sphere of duty distinguished himself in a manner few could follow . Sometimes he was in a different capacity as judge in the Middlesex Quarter Sessions . Bro . Littler was a founder and the first W . M . of the Chancery Bar Lodge , where he had doubtless
initiated many Lord Chancellors . He was also a Past Master of the Bank of England Lodge , and was the first to receive the appointment of Deputy Grand Registrar . Her Majesty had recognised his services by conferring the honour of C . B ., and he ( the I . P . M . ) had a sort of presentiment that it was possible in this great record year of her Majesty ' s reign that the further honour of K . C . B . would be added . Bro . R . D . M . Littler , C . B ., Q . C , P . D . G . R ., W . M ., in response , said that when he was asked by the I . P . M . to become one of the founders of their lodge he did not think
he should have so remarkable a reception as he had received . It was quite true that he had had a great deal to do in the county , but it had been a pleasure . He was more than delighted to have been made second Masterof the lodge , which , he was sure , would become one of the most distinguished in the province . It would be his own fault if he did not make many good friends during his Mastership . He trusted that when he left the chair he would receiye as hearty a reception as they had given to the Immediate Past Master .
The W . M . then proposed " The I . P . M ., " and said Bro . Bartley Denniss had been the life and soul of the lodge . The I . P . M . had been a distinguished Master and whatever names might be carved on the desks of the Herga Schools there would be no name go down with greater gratification than the name of the first W . M . He had great pleasure in asking Bro . Denniss to accept a Past Master ' s jewel—a very handsome one—presented as a hearty expression of their gratitude , at the way in which he had done his work .
Bro . Bartley Denniss , I . P . M ., returned thanks , and said it mattered not to whom the credit of the lodge ' s success was due , so long as their friendship was cemented . He was proud of the lodge and of his children in it . He had had an enormous amount of work to do and a great amount of organisation to carry out , but it had been a labour of love . He thanked them for the jewel and for the many kind things said of him . On behalf of " The Visitors , " Bros . Montagu Sharp and Dennis , P . M ., replied , and the remaining toasts were "The Officers , " and the Tyler ' s toast . Bros . Fell and Walter George contributed several excellent songs .
