After the business of the lodge , the brethren adjourned to the Town Hall , Hanley , where a sumptuous banquet was provided by Mrs . Barlow , of the Victoria Hotel . After dinner the loyal toasts and those which arc inti-nded to honour the rulers of the Craft were proposed by the W . M ., Bros . Jackson , White , and Fenton . Bros . F . Mountford , 450 , and W . H . Bamber , 637 , P . S . G . D ., responded for "The Provincial Grand Officers , Present and Past . " Bro . Taylor proposed " The Health of the Worshipful Master , " which was drunk most heartily .

Bro . Birch , in responding , said the time he had been a Mason had been one of the happiest periods of his fife . He had not joined the Craft from mercenary motives , nor with the expectation of pecuniary benefit , though he knew , if necessity should arise , brotherly sympathy and help would be rendered . He then spoke of the desirableness of strengthening the Staffordshire Masonic Charities , over which they could have more control than they had in respect of the three central Institutions in London .

Bro . Jackson proposed " The Masonic Charities , " and Brn . Tooth responded , both of them giving expression to similar views to those of the W . M . as to the desirableness of extending the Staffordshire Charities . Bro . E . J . Hammersley ( Mayor of Hanley ) , in proposing " The Visitors , " touched on the same suhject , and made some interesting remarks as to the pains and penalties to which Freemasons were liable under a very old Act of Parliament in the event of the Secretary omitting to send returns of the membership periodically to the Clerk of the Peace .

Bros . J . Ingamells , 4 60 , P . P . J . G . D . ; Mason , P . M . 9 S ; and E , Harding , 637 , responded . " The Health of the Retiring W . M ., " " The Officers of the Lodge , " and the Tyler's toast followed . The speeches on the occasion were for the most part brief , in order that full advantage might be taken of the musical arrangements . Bro . F . Mountford presided at the

piano , and a glee party consisting of Bros . T . Bearne , W . H . Mitchell , W . Nixon , T . Lockett , M . Nuttall , sang splendidly a number of glees and songs , which they had carefully rehearsed , and their admirable singing was most enjoyable . Bros . Mountford and Warne also sang , and Bro . T . Lockett played with great skill a violin solo . The glee singers are all members of the lodge . The whole musical arrangements were most creditable to all concerned .

" The Deputy Prov . Grand Master acknowledged the hearty welcome extended to him , and conveyed to the brethren the regret with which the Prov . G . M . found himself prevented from attending .

Craft Masonry.

" The Grand Officers " was acknowledged by Bro . D . D . Mercer , P . G . P ., Jn su | t able terms . Bro . H . H . Room , G . S . B ., Prov . G . Sec , replying for " The Provinckl Grand Master , Deputy Provincial Grand Master , and the rest of the Provincial Grand Ollicers Present and Past , " expressed the great pleasure it afforded him to do so . The weather was not conducive to speech making , so that his thanks would be brief . In the province they had to look for guidance to those who were honoured by the Prov . G . M .. whow

selections were made with wisdom and judgment , and as a proof of this , the brethren had only to look round the table that evening . It had already been his duty and pleasure , as Provincial Grand Secretary , to convey to the worthy brethren in that lodge the offer of office from the Provincial Grand Master , and he hoped to do so on many future occasions , because he b » lieved there was not a lodge in ' : he province that had the interest of Masonry better at heart , or that tried harder to keep up its traditions than the Bushey Park Lodge . It was started under good auspices , and was

going on well , and it was a pleasure to him to sec how it was prospering . That was the second time he had seen Bro . Hooper installed in the chair , for some years ago he had the pleasure of visiting the Unity Lodge and seeing him installed for the first time when he made a mental note that the newly-installed W . M . would serve the Craft well and worthily . When he heard that Bro . Hooper was to be installed as W . M . of trip

Bushey Park Lodge , it was an honest pleasure to attend the meeting . He was glad to see the lodge working so well , and trusted it would continue to do so . The duties of the Prov . Grand Master rendered it impossible for him to attend the lodge meetings , and he was now away recruiting his strength while he had the chance . He received a letter from the Prov . Grand Master stating that he would have been present that day had it been possible .

Bro . G . R . Langley , P . P . G . D ., Sec , proposed "The Health of the W . M ., " and said the I . P . M . had kindly allowed him to do so , as Bro . Hooper introduced him into Freemasonry . They would have an excellent Worshipful Master in Bro . Hooper , who was probably almost the senior member in Freemasonry in the lodge , and one they could look up to with respect . They hoped his year would be a success , and would receive the toast with all the enthusiasm it deserved .

Bro . H . Hooper , W . M ., who was very cordially received , returned thanks tor the toast and the flattering remarks of the Secretary . He could only say he had endeavoured to do his duty in Freemasonry for many years , and trusted that in some cases he had succeeded . He felt very proud that night to be placed in the position of W . M . ol that lodge , and hoped the lodge would not suffer in his hands for the next 12 months . 1 f he was spoken of as well at the end of that time , that would be sufficient reward for any

duties or work he might undertake . With regard to his Stewardship for the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , he had hoped Bro . Terry would have been present , but he would render an account up to the present . With the aid of brethren he had got together 155 guineas , and he hoped that sum would be considerably increased , so as to do credit to the lodge and the province under their Prov . Grand Master . The idea of the Secretary was to make the lodge a Vice Patron of the Institution , and he hoped the brethren would do their best .

The I . P . M . and the Installing Master was next given by the W . M ., who said the I . P . M . deeply regretted his inability to be present to do the installation ceremony , but , as they knew , business must come first . The I . P . M . was well known and his geniality was proverbial , and it was therefore a great pleasure to present him with the Past Master's jewel unanimously voted by the lodge , hoping he would be with them in Freemasonry for many years . Bro . Blenkarn was kind enough to undertake the ceremony , and they were all pleased with the masterly manner in which it had been carried out .

Bro . G . Castle , I . P . M ., expressed his indebtedness to Bro . Blenkarn for undertaking the installation ceremony , and also to the brethren for the handsome jewel . Bro . A . Blenkarn , P . M ., Treas ., also replied , and said he considered it the duty of every Mason , and especially every Past Master , to assist when called upon . As Treasurer , he was pleased at the very satisfactory li . uncial condition of tha lodge .

" The Visitors , " and other toasts were given before the proceedings terminated . Bros . Frank Swinford and ^ Dennis rendered val u able assistance in the musical arrangements .

Ecclesburne Lodge , No . 2425 . The third anniversary of the above lodge was celebrated at Duffiild , on Monday , the 16 th ult . The lecture was exceeding ly interesting and instructive , and the brethren listened with marked attention . A lively discussion followed . The brethren of the lodge are thus once more under deep obligation to Bro . Hughan , whose assistance and help throughout the three years existence of the lodge has been invaluable .

The usual conversazione followed , the visitors expressing their gratification at the success of the lodge and their hopes for its continuance . The printed transactions 01 the lodge for the past year were distributed during the evening .
