A testimonial is about to be presented to Bro . Sir Augustus Harris in recognition of his eminently successful direction of the Royal Italian Opera at Covent Garden . A similar compliment was paid to Sir Augustus' predecessor , the late Mr . Frederick Gye , and it will most likely assume the same form , that of a portrait to be painted by a Royal Acadamecian and hung in a prominent position in the Theatre .

In the Grand Lodge of Mississippi it is a beautiful custom of setting apart an hour of its annual communications in commemoration of the brethren who have fallen by the wayside during the preceding year . On these occasions some excellent tributes are called forth , frequently from

brethren not accustomed to delivering public addresses , and the time being previously known a very large attendance is had . It is a custom which all Masonic bodies would do well to follow , for there is nothing that will so soften the asperities and frictions of life as to be occasionally reminded of our mortality . —The Trestle Board .

NIAGARA IN WINTER . —We cannot wonder that an exhibition which has proved so successful from an artistic point of view and so profitable to its proprietors should offer strong temptation to those concerned to bring it again before the public . This is very rarely a profitable undertaking unless special circumstances are favourable or a new interest can be created . That the latter has been

most successfully accomplished by the artist who has metamorphosed the Niagara , with which so many sightseers are familiar , int > the Niagara under the iron grip of king frost cannot be denied . While th-: picture loses none of its brightness , it presents this wonderful work of nature in a sterner and more fascinating aspect , and we think we can safely predict that Niagara Hall will enjoy another run of well-deserved prosperity .
