• Tim The Quarterly Convocation of Supreme Grand Chapter was held at Freemasons' Hall on Wednesday evening under the presidency of F . arl Amherst , Pro G . Z ., and having regard to the fact that the proceedings were of a more attractive character than usual , there
was a fairly numerous muster of Present and Past Grand Oflicers , and representatives of chapters . The new Grand Officers , of which a complete list is given in our report , were appointed and invested , and recognition was accorded , on the recommendation of the General Committee , to the Grand Chapter of New Zealand .

We have much pleasure in announcing that his Royal Highness the Duke of Connaught , K . G ., M . W . Past G . M ., Prov . G . M . Sussex , Dist . G . M . Bombay , who has graciously consented to preside as Chairman at this year's Anniversay Festival in behalf
of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , has appointed Tuesday , the loth July , for the celebration , and accordingly the Festival will take place at the Royal Pavilion , Brighton , on that day . Particulars will be furnished later as to tickets , service of trains , & c , & c .
We have been requested to state with reference to the visit to Bushey , on Saturday , the 12 th inst ., of the Duke of Connaught , M . W . Past Grand Master , for the purpose of laying the corner stone of the new School buildings now in course of erection on the
Grove Park Estate , that applications for tickets to view thc ceremony , at 2 is . each , may be forwarded to the Secretary of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , 6 , Freemasons' Hall , W . C , on or before tomorrow ( Saturday ) the 5 th instant .
* * * We . have also been requested to announce that the London and North-Western Railway Company has " consented to allow our special railway tickets being available from Broad-street and intermediate stations
to Bushey as well as from Euston , " and that parties of not less than six first-class passengers travelling together from any station on their system " will be granted return tickets , available for the day of issue
only , " at a single fare and a quarter to Bushey or Watford Stations . " But the parties desirous of availing themselves of this offer must make their own arrangements , and to that end must " communicate with the L . and N . W . Station Master at their end . "
« The Committee of Management of thc Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution will hold their regular monthly meeting at Freemasons' Hall on Wednesday , the cith instant , when the draft report for the past year , as prepared by the Sub-Committee
appointed at the April meeting , will be submitted for approval . We are pleased to be in a position to make it known that the Donations and Subscriptions to the Festival in February last , which were announced as amounting to £ 20 , 226 , now exceed £ 22 , 000 . This is a splendid result , of which all concerned may well be proud .
* * » We have much pleasure in again calling attention to the progress which is being made by the " South African Masonic Relief Fund . " The total announced previous to our last week's issue , inclusive of the
grant of £ 1050 by Grand Lodge , and the amount of R . W . Bro . Richards's Fund was £ 3514 , and the additions we then published raised this total to—in round figures—some . £ 3800 . Further additions are published in another column , which still further
augment the total to upwards of £ 4500 . But we have no doubt that this and even a still larger amount will be needed in order to meet the sad necessities of the cas e and we , therefore , trust that the lodges and brethren will give as readily as they have done heretofore .
« * * A new lodge , which will meet in the Harrow Road at the Headquarters of the 18 th Middlesex Rifle Volunteers , was consecrated at Freemasons' Hall on Monday . We allude to the Paddington Rifles Lodge ,
No . 2807 , the principal oflicers designate of which were Bros . Col . P . H . Dalbiac , M . P ., W . M . ; Major Malcolm Jno . Russell Dundas , S . W . ; and Captain Thos . W . Heath , J . W . Col . James Unite has taken a
very active part in the foundation of the lodge . The ceremony was performed by the Grand Secretary , assisted by sundry of the Grand Oflicers and Colonel Dalbiac , M . P ., was afterwards installed in the chair-We wish the new lodge a long and successful career .
* » » The half-yearly Chapter of the Great Priory of the Order of the Temple , England and Wales , & c ., will be held at Mark Masons' Hall , Great Queen-street , W . C , on Friday , the nth instant . On this occasion
delegations from the Great Priory of Ireland and the Chapter General of Scotland will attend , and be received with the usual honours . Thc Report of the Council will be submitted , and afterwards the Great Oliicers for the ensuing year will be appointed and invested . A
Chapter of the Great Priory of the Order of Malta will subsequently be held , at which Knights Templar , who may have notified their wish , will be admitted to the Order . A banquet—tickets one guinea—at Freemasons' Tavern will follow the proceedings .
Masonic Notes.
The Report of the Council , which will be submitted to the meeting , is of a very satisfactory character . Among the announcements it contains we are told that V . E . Colonel A . V . Davoren , G . C . T ., has been appointed representative of the Great Priory of England at the Great Priory of Ireland , and V . E . Viscount
Dungarvan , G . C . T ., representative of the latter at the Great Priory of England . It is also announced that V . E . General J . Corson Smith , K . C . T ., has been appointed representative of the Great Priory at the Grand Encampment of the United States of America . We are also pleased to note that the Great Priory is ,
financially , in a far better position than at any previous period , the balances in hand on the General and Benevolent Funds being £ 710 and £ 142 respectively . It is proposed to strike from the roll certain Preceptories which are several years in arrcar , but the number is not large .
* * We are indebted to the courtesy of the Lodge Secretary —BrO . G . W . Speth , P . A . G . D . C—fora paper furnishing particulars of this year ' s summer outing , which , on the invitation of Bro . R . V . Vassar-Smith , P . G . D ., D . P . G Master of Gloucestershire , will be to Cheltenham and neighbourhood with headquarters at the Bell
Gloucester , and will take place from the 4 th to the Sth July . We have also received Part 1 of Vol . XIII . of " Ars Quatuor Coronatorum " our usual notice of which is necessarily deferred for a week or two owing to the calls made upon our space and time by the meetings of Grand Lodge and Grand Chapter and the recent and approaching elections to our Institution .
* * * Surrey is fortunate in having so active and energetic a ruler as the Earl of Onslow . His lordship has been its Prov . Grand Master for five years and in that short period of time has made it his business to become acquainted with as many of the lodges under his charge
as the pressure of his official and other engagements would permit . About a fortnight since he visited the Gatwick Lodge , No . 2502 , Horley , which was consecrated in 1894 . It is almost needless to say that his lordship was most cordially as well . as most respectfully received , and we feel sure the brethren , from the
outgoing and newly-installed Masters down to the latest initiate must have been gratified by the praise bestowed by their chief on the work of the lodge and the harmony and fraternal kindness prevailing amongst them . It is not surprising that a Province in which the relations existing between the ruler and his lodges
and their members are of so cordial a nature should be making such safe progress and winning such golden opinions from the heads of the Craft . A report of the meeting at which Lord Onslow was present will be found elsewhere . * * *
It is with greater pleasure than usual that we publish this week a report—albeit a brief one—of the addition of a chapter to the roll of the Provincial Grand Chapter of North and East Yorkshire . The Salebeia Chapter , to be attached to the St . Germain Lodge , No . 566 , was
consecrated at Selby on Saturday , the 24 th ultimo , by Lord Bolton , acting Grand Superintendent . By this event Selby is once again in possession of the necessary facilities for making acquaintance with the Royal Arch , the chapter formerly attached to the lodge having become extinct in 1879 .
* * * We learn from one of our exchanges that with a view ever before the minds of its members the virtues of George Washington , the lodge of Fredericksburg , in which that illustrious Mason was initiated , passed , and raised , has resolved that at its June meeting this
year , and at the corresponding meeting in each succeeding , a member shall be chosen to place on thc 14 th December , 1900 , and every succeeding 14 th December , on Washington's tomb at Mount Vernon a simple wreath of evergreen , as evidence that his memory will be cherished and revered . * # #
The Australian Freemasons' Chronicle has recently had some very sensible remarks on the subject of " Applause in Lodge , " and the tendency which has of late developed itself to encourage the practice . As our contemporary very properly points out , it applause is permitted , there is no reason why its opposite
-dissent—should not be permitted likewise . It remarks that a W . Master would not be holding the scales evenly , if he allowed the opinions of one brother to be applauded and those of another brother who held different views to be received in silence or , worse
still , to a running fire of dissent . If , as we judge , the practice has been growing in our lodges at the Antipodes , our woithy contemporary has' done well in calling attention to the evil and urging il < i immediate discontinuance .
