The Approaching Festival Of The Royal Masonic Institution For Girls.
THE APPROACHING FESTIVAL OF THE ROYAL MASONIC INSTITUTION FOR GIRLS .
Wc arc glad to be in a position to announce to our readers that the prospects of tlie 112 th Anniversary Festival in behalf of tlie Royal Masonic Institution for Girls , which will be held at
Freemasons' Tavern on Wednesday , tlie 16 th instant , under the auspices of tlie Right Hon . the Earl of DARTMOUTH , Prov . G . Master of Staffordshire , are even more encouraging than we have led them to believe in the articles we have devoted to the
subject . Last year , it will be remembered , that Bro . HEDGES , the Secretary , had the satisfaction of enrolling upwards of 500 ladies and brethren as Stewards , and the total he announced in Donations and Subscriptions amounted to £ 21 , 045 . This year
as regards his Board of Stewards , he has gone considerably further , and tlie number of ladies and brethren who have placed their services at the disposal of the Institution for this event alread y exceeds by a good round 100 the Board of 1 S 99 , nor
will it greatly surprise us if by tlie day itself the Board does not exceed 700 members . It does not , of course , follow that the aggregate of the contributions will be increased commensurate ! )' . There were , as we have before pointed out , no War
Funds and Refugee Funds being raised in 18 99 . This year appeals of this special character are being made in all directions , to say nothing of tlie Indian Famine Fund , which was started at tlie Mansion House , several weeks ago , and the Canadian Fund
for the relief of the thousands of sufferers by the terrible conflagration which has almost burnt Ottawa , the capital of the Dominion , out of existence , which has only been opened this week . Still , when we find a Board of such unprecedented
strength , has been enrolled , we may be forgiven if we are somewhat sanguine , and are anticipating a result which , if it does "ot quite equal the figures of last year , will assuredly fall not very far short of them .
As regards the claims of our Girls' School to the generous support of the whole bod y of English Masons , it will suffice , perhaps , if we say that they are established beyond question . I here are some 270 girls who are being educated under its
¦ luspices in a manner that will compare favourably with that of ; y other middle-class Girls' School in the United Kingdom . Hie permanent income is about £ 2500 , and the permanent expenditure about £ 14 , , so that every year a deficiency of

between £ 11 , 000 and £ 12 , 000 must be made good . Hence the Annual Festival , which enables this to be done . This , however , is part of the tale wc arc called upon to unfold-to our readers every year , but there are a few circumstances connected with
this particular anniversary to which we may be permitted to refer . In the first place the visit paid annuall y by the Grand Officers to the School at Battersea Rise for the purpose of inspecting the premises and seeing for themselves how admirably
the Institution is conducted , will take place on Monday , the 7 th instant . On Monday , the 14 th instant , the first part of the anniversary celebration will be held in the new Hall of the School—the Alexandra Hall , as it is called—when the prizes will
be distributed by the Countess of DARTMOUTH , wife of the Festival Chairman of the year , and the Stewards and their friends will be afforded the opportunity of witnessing that prettiest of pretty sights , the calisthenic display by the children
for which the School has long enjoyed so great and well-merited a reputation . As for the Festival itself in Freemasons' Tavern on the Wednesday following , it may possibly be of some service if we mention—as we have been requested to mention—that the
services of brethren , who have already given in their names as Stewards , and are prepared to act as Ladies' Stewards in the evening , are greatly needed , and will be most gratefully accepted . There is a strong muster of ladies on the Board , and . it is
generally understood that there will be a large attendance of lady guests at the Tavern . These must be well looked after , and hence the necessity , to which we are now calling attention , for telling off a stronger body of Lady Stewards than usual for what , after all , is only an ordinary Festival .
Approaching Elections Of The Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution.
APPROACHING ELECTIONS OF THE ROYAL MASONIC BENEVOLENT INSTITUTION .
We mentioned last week that the voting papers for the elections , which will take place at the annual General Meeting of the Governors and Subscribers of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , to be held at Freemasons' Tavern on Friday , the
1 Sth instant , had been issued , and with them , as usual , are the lists of candidates , with full particulars of the claims on which their several petitions were accepted by the Committee of Management . As regards the
MALE FUND , for which it appears there ; are 4 6 candidates competing for 18 vacancies , inclusive of the three deferred . Of these candidates 20 have made one or more attempts to secure for themselves
the benefits of the Fund , while the ' other 26 have had their names added to the list since May , [ 8 99 ; London contributing nine and the Provinces 37 . The London candidates are No . 6 , who brings forward 4258 votes from last year towards his fourth
attempt ; No . 17 , who has polled 402 votes ; and No . 20 , with 4039 votes from May , 18 99 ; and Nos . 26 , 27 , 30 , 3 . ' , 38 , and 4 6 , who are new candidates . Of the 37 candidates from the Provinces and Abroad , Sussex is resoonsible for four , of whom No . 11
has 226 votes in hand from two previous ballots ; and Nos . 25 , 29 , and 37 . Kent furnishes three , of whom No . 5 brings forward 655 votes ; and No . 19 has io votes ; while No .
