presented by Bro . Long , P . M ., and the ceremony was performed most impressively . The Board of Installed Masters was composed of no less than 2 S , 15 of whom wore purple . On the re-admission of the M . M . 's , the customary salutes were given , and then the new occupant of the chair of K . S . appointed his officers . The appointments fell thus : Bros . W . Drewett , S . W . ;

J . Drewett , J . W . ; T . Long , P . M ., Treas . ; R . T . Elsam , P . M ., Sec ( in succession to Bro . Squire , P . M ., resigned ); Colbron , P . M . 355 , S . D . ; H . Abrahams , jun ., J . D . ; F . J . Hayward , I . G . ; Metcalfe , D . C ; G . Wade , Stwd . ; and Gilbert , Tyler . The addresses were given admirably by Bro . Elsam , who perhaps never performed an installation with better effect . In the after

proceedings the W . M . presented to his predecessor the P . M . jewel voted to him by the lodge , and Bro . Weaver suitably acknowledged the gift . The W . M . announced that he would go up as Steward for the Girls' School , and Bro . Edgell took upon himself a like office for the Benevolent Institution . Ten guineas were voted to each Steward from the lodge funds . .

¦ After other formal business , the lodge was closed in due form , and the brethren gathered around the festive board to the number of 60 . An excellent banquet was served by Bro . Sharp , and the usual toasts followed . A special toast was added to the list , viz ., "The late Secretary , Bro . Squire , P . M ., on his retirement . " The W . M . had also the p leasurable duty of presenting to Bro .

Squire ( who is Secretary of the Lodge of Fidelity , No . 3 ) a most handsome timepiece , of the value of 20 guineas , subscribed for by the brethren . In asking Bro . Squire's acceptance of the gift , the W . M . referred to the long connection of their late Secretary with the Dobie Lodge—20 years as a member , and 14 of that period as Secretary . The W . M . assured Bro . Squire that they all regretted the

severance of the tie between them , but they hoped to see him amongst them for some years to come . We should mention that Bro . Squire was elected an honorary member of the lodge on his resignation of office . The observations of the W . M . were cordially approved of by the brethren . Bro . Squire , who was deeply affected , thanked the W . M . for his kind remarks , and the brethren for that

mark of appreciation of his services . His whole connection with the Dobie Lodge had been marked by much happiness , and he should never forget the many happy hours spent with present and past members . The visitors present included Bros . Lyon , W . M . 43 , P . P . G . S . B . Warwick ; J . W . Moorman , P . M . 1638 ,

P . A . G . D . C ; Abel Lawrence , P . M . 163 S ; W . Lane , P . M . 1638 ; J . W . Squire , W . M . 3 ; R . Sebastian Hart , P . M . 1 S 72 ; A . Wilson , P . M . 1298 ; H . Macaulay , P . M . ; E . Hopwood , P . M . 141 ; W . H . Pearse , W . M . 1872 ; Skewes-Cox , P . M . S ; E . Dickman , P . M . 1892 ; C . Phillips , P . M . S 20 ; Gifford T . Salmon , W . M . 820 ; G . Moorman , S . W . 1638 ; and others .

WESTON . —Royal Albert Edward Lodge ( No . 906 ) . —An emergency meeting of this lodge was held on Wednesday , the 26 th ult ., when there were present Bros . W . H . Young , W . M . ; G . H . Bartlett , S . W . ; R . Bull , J . W . ; T . B . Moutrie , P . M ., Treas . ; C Becket , P . M ., Sec ; W . H . Baker , S . D , ; A . Wadoux , J . D . ; L . Howes , P . M ., D . of C . ; W . Gayner and W . H . Fisher ,

Stwds . ; G . Strange , I . G . ; C Pinket , Tyler ; J . Knight , I . P . M . ; W . H . Dell , P . M . ; F . Glover , P . M . ; J . Stuckey , P . M . ; F . W . Dingle , P . M . ; H . Graham Montagu , H . Humphries , E . W . Loveless , T . Cross , T . R . Gill , F . A . Smith , E . Mills , J . Banks , and J . Hayward . The summons stated the business to be—1 , to pass Bro . H . G . Montagu , and , 2 , to consider proposition of the Pro Grand Master relative to the commemoration of the

approaching Jubilee of her Majesty the Queen . The lodge having been opened , the summons was read , and several excuses for non-attendance were received from absent brethren , after which Bro . H . G . Montagu was passed to the Second Degree , the ceremony being most efficiently performed by the W . M . At the request of the W . M ., the Secretary read the circular which had been received from

the P . G . Secretary , informing the brethren that upon the occasion of ths approaching Jubilee of her Most Gracious Majesty it had been decided to hold a large meeting of Freemasons at the Albert Hall or some other suitable building , the monies received at which would be appropriated to the Masonic Charities , and also suggesting that a subscription should be started among the members of each lodge ,

to be paid over as a Masonic tribute to the proposed Imperial Institute , as to which latter proposal it was desired to ascertain whether the same was approved or otherwise by the lodges in that province . The W . M . having invited the opinion of the brethren thereon , Bro . Bartlett , S . W ., proposed " That , having heard the letter read , and considered the proposal , this lodge does not approve the proposal

contained therein . " In moving this resolution he disclaimed all notion that he was in any way hostile to the proposed Institute , which , for all he knew , might possess all the advantages claimed by its advocates , and be entirely free from the objections alleged by others who thought differently ; at the same time , its objects had nothing to do with Freemasonry , and it might be safely left to the general

public and to the membersoftheCraft in their other capacities to support or not as they might see fit . If anything were done in that lodge to commemorate the Jubilee , and he hoped there would be , he should much prefer that each chair in the lodge , or as many of them as the funds allowed , should be qualified with votes for some of the Masonic Charities , as being more distinctly within their

professed objects . The resolution was seconded by Bro . W . H . Dill , P . M . Bro . F . Glover , P . M ., proposed as an amendment— "That this lodge approves of the proposal contained in the letter now read . " He said the lodge was merely called upon in the first instance to express an opinion on the matter , and seeing that the Jubilee was a matter of so much importance generally , more especially

to Masons , and taking into consideration that the Queen ' s son was our Grand Master , he urged the lodge to approve the scheme set forth in the letter . At any rate , it would be ungracious to disapprove the scheme unless the lodge was prepared to suggest a better . Bro . Becket , P . M ., strongly opposed the proposed scheme , and considered that any

funds raised in Masonic lodge would not be properly applied if given in that direction . He expressed a desire that the lodge should convey to the V . W . Pro G . Master their desire to assist in any good suggestion having the benefit of the Masonic Charities for its object , but considered the proposal for the benefit of the Imperial

Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

Institute entirely outside the objects of the Craft . Bro . Wadoux also spoke in favour of the resolution . The amendment was not seconded . Bro . Bartlett , in reply , pointed out that the lodge was only asked to say " yes " or " no " to the proposal , and that it would only be misleading to the Pro Grand Master if the scheme were approved unless the members were prepared to follow up

the approval by a good subscription list , of which at present he saw no indication . So far as he had been able to ascertain the views of the brethren in his immediate neighbourhood ( even including the mover of the resolution ) , they were very fairly represented by the cartoon in Punch last week . The Institute was doubtless an excellent idea , but

" still they would like to see something of the machinery inside . " The W . M . having put the resolution to the vote , it was carried by a very large majority , only two brethren voting against it . This being the whole of the business , the lodge was closed in due form and perfect harmony .

LANCASTER . —Duke of Lancaster Lodge ( No . 1353 ) . —The installation banquet in connection with this lodge took place on Friday , the 2 Sth ult ., at the King ' s Arms Hotel , under the presidency of Bro . office , and with which all the brethren were perfectly well satisfied . The Worshipful Master , in responding , stated how highly gratified he was at being elected to that office , and how he appreciated the honour of presiding over the Duke of Lancaster Lodge . Although a young lodge it was fairly vigorous , and they had amongst their members many genial spirits and good Freemasons .
