LIVERPOOL . —Dramatic Lodge ( No . 1609 ) . — The usual monthly meeting of the members of this lodge ( being the one immediately preceding the June-July vacation ) was held on Tuesday afternoon , the 24 th ult ., at the Masonic Hall , Hope-street . Sarony for initiation , and Bros . T . F . Laya and J . Hoult for joining members . Messrs . Edgar Wilson ( elected at a previous meeting ) , Chambers , and Lax being in attendance , were initiated , and seven

were " raised , " viz ., Bros . Cantor , Wood , Campion , Neubert , R . W . Hughes , Hall , and Williams . Before the close of the lodge , Bro . John Atkinson , S . W . ( as Hon . Treasurer ) , gave in the financial statement of the concert recently helei at the Bijoa Opera House , under the auspices of the Liverpool Dramatic Lodge , in aid of the West Lancashire Masonic Educational Institution , and the

benevolent fund attached to the lodge . From the balance sheet it appeared that the total receipts amounted to £ ioS 17 s . 3 d ., and the expenditure to £ 23 5 s . 3 d ., leaving abalance of £ Ss 12 s . On the motion of the S . W ., seconded by Bro . J . Keet , it was resolved to apportion the balance as follows : £ 42 to the West Lancashire Masonic Educational Institution to create the occupants of the chairs of W . M . and

I . P . M . Vice-Presidents of the Charity ; and the balance of ( £ 43 12 s . ) to Dramatic Lodge Benevolent Fund . On the proposition of the I . P . M ., Bro . MacKcnzie , seconded by Bro . Pycr , S . D ., it was unanimously resolved to record on the minutes votes of thanks to Mr . Carl Rosa for having given his permission to allow the artistes of his company to appear at the concert ; to the vocalists and instrumentalists

themselves'forjtheir invaluable services ; to Bros . Bell , Woolrich , and Brown , for granting the free use of the Bijou Opera House for the concert ; and to the Chairman , Bro . Sandbrook , W . AL , the Hon . Sec , Bro . J . M . Boyd , Sec , the Hon . Treas ., Bro . J . Atkinson , S . W ., and the members of the Committee , for their labours in connection with the concert . At the close of the lodge business , Bro . R . Burgess , Organist , played the " National Anthem , " as a loval

expression of feeling on the part of the members of the Dramatic in connection with the celebration of Her Majesty ' s birthday . The brethren then adjourned to banquet , and , during the evening , songs , recitations , and instrumental solo ' s were given by Bros . Webster , Williams , Neubcrt , Brammall , Chambers , Ramage , and others ; Bros . Burgess and Bayliss playing the necessary accompaniments .

CHURCH . —Prince Leopold Lodge ( No . 1775 ) . —The ordinary meeting of the abeive lodge took place at the Masonic Rooms , Commercial-street , on Wednesday evening , the 25 th ult ., at 6 . 30 p . m ., the W . M ., the Rev . ' 1 ' . F . Collins , presiding . After confirmation of last lodge minutes , a ballot took place for Mr . Spencer Rhidelialgh , and he was declared unanimously elected .

Bro . J . F . Scott was then raised to the Sublime Degree by Bro . Onnerod , P . M . 1145 . Bros . Birch and Haythornthwaitc were subsequently raised to Master Masons by the W . M ., and Bro . Ainsworth was passed to the Degree of F . C . by Bro Gossling , I . P . M . 1145 , P . G . D . C . Mr . W . Goldsborough Whittam , B . A . Cam ., was admitted and initiated into Freemasonry by Bro . Rushton , W . M . 1145 ,

and the lodge was closed according to constitutional and ancient form at 10 . 15 p . m . This young lodge has made rapid progress in numbers and very efficient working of the several ceremonies , thanks to the good feeling which exists amongst the surrounding lotlges and the indefatigable exertions of their genial Secretary , Captain J . M . Barlow , P . M . Bro . Tattcrsall presided at the harmonium in his matchless style .

INSTRUCTION . PANMURE LODGE ( No . 720 ) . — A special meeting- of this lodge was helel at the Balham Hotel , on Wednesday evening , the 25 th ult ., at seven o ' clock , Bros . G . W . M ., presided . After the usual loyal and Masonic toasts , Bro . Mitchell , P . M ., was presented with a handsome jewel in recognition of his valuable services as Secretary of the lodge of instruction , which post ho held for four years , and has now resigned .

METROPOLITAN CHAPTER OF IMPROVEMENT . —The last gathering of the members of this chapter of improvement for this session took place on Tuesday evening , the 31 st ult ., at the Jamaica Tavern , St . Michael ' s-alley , Cornhifi , but the attendance was hardly up to the average . The officers present were Comps . Tayler

, Z . ; Payne , H . ; Chicken , J . ; F . Brown , S . E . and Preceptor ; Walker , S . N . ; Goodchild , P . S . ; together with the following companions : Comps . Turquand , ' Goodenough , W . Eraser , J . Fraser , G . Brown , Edmonds , Sheffield , Warner , and H . Thompson ( Freemason ) . The ceremony of | exaltation was rehearsed , Comp . J . Fraser being the candidate , anel the whole was well done ,

more especially those parts of it assigned to the Principals . At the conclusion of it , Comp . Brown , the esteemed Preceptor , said it became to him a very pleasing duty to propose that a vote of thanks should be inserted on the minutes to Comp . 'Tayler for the very able manner in which he had performed the duties of Z . that evening- for the first time , and especially so as he felt sure when lie entered the room

that he had not the most distant idea that he should be called upon to fill that position , and go through the arduous duties attached to it . He , therefore , felt that the companions would agree with him in paying to him a compliment which he so well deserved . Comp . Walker , S . N ., seconded the motion , which was carried unanimously . Comp . Tayler , in acknowledging the vote of thanks so

unanimously passed to him , expressed the gratification he felt in receiving it , although , as Comp . Brown bad stated , when he entered the room that night he had not the most distant idea of being called upon to fill the highest position in the chapter . He thanked them most cordially for the honour they had conferred upon him on that ( his first ) occasion of taking the chair , anel by the time th ' ev again

met he should be able to rub off a little of the nervousness he had felt that evening , and hoped to better deserve the thanks they had given to him . He said that lie felt sure before they separated for the season , the companions would be most anxious to recognise the services of Comp . Brown , their able , painstaking , and kind Preceptor , who was always at his post , and always ready

to give them instruction . He , therefore , proposed that the thanks of the chapter should be given to him for his services , and his readiness at all times to do anything in his power that might be required of him . Comp . Walker seconded the motion , which was unanimously agreed to . Comp . Brown , S . E ., and the esteemed Preceptor of the

chapter , said he thanked the companions for the vote of thanks they had given to him , which was most pleasing to him , and which he should gratefully remember . He might say that the duties of Preceptor were not always of the most agreeable kind , for , unlike the Craft , those who came there had gained a position in it , and considered , rightly so , that they had gained a dignity in the Craft , and to such

it was not always the most agreeable task to have to go to school again , but he generally found that those who came were most anxious to obtain the instruction that was there afforded to them . He might inform the companions that during the season of 1 S 79 and 1 SS 0 , during which he had acted as their Preceptor , they had had thirty-three meetings , at which 420 companions attended ; thej ' had admitted thirty-one new members , and there had been one

visitor , giving an average of thirteen to each meeting . In the season of 1 SSo and * iSS 1 'there had been again thirtythree meetings , 5 C 1 had attended , and by a remarkable coincidence thirty-one new members had been again admitted , with three visitors , giving an average of about eighteen to each meeting , and ' be might say that the funds were in a very satisfactory state . 'This state of affairs must be very gratifying to the membersas it showed

, that the chapter was in a very flourishing state , and a month or two , when they again met , he should ask them to devote a portion of their funds to one of th Masonic Charities , for which he intended to act a Steward . Atkinson read a most interesting paper on Selby , a town which has many historical reminiscences , especially dwelling upon the history of its abbey , formerly one of the wealthiest of the religious houses in the North of England . The Masor . ic associations of the abbey and the town were not lost sight of ; and a vote of thanks was recorded to the worthy frater for his paper . The First and Second Order certificates , issued by the High Council of the Society , were issued , and it was

arranged , if possible , to hold the August meeting at Ripon , to include a visit to Fountains Abbe }' . The names of two candidates were submitted to the college . After its close the party were conducted over the beautiful Abbey Church by Era . Atkinson , and its principal architectural features were pointed out , the Organist of the church performing - a selection of music . Subsequently the members met at the Londesbro' Arms Hotel for tea , and departed for their respective homes at Leeds , York , Bradford , etc ., at an early hour .

Miss Jones , the eldest daughter of Bro . W . M . Jones , erne of the present lesses of the Alexandra Palace , was on Saturday last presented with a grand piano , by some friends of Bro . Jones , to mark in a substantial manner their sense of the general business capacity as well as the uniform courtesy which distinguished him during the four years in which he was manager of the palace .
