Wilkie Jones , the Secretary , stated that the past year had been one of exceptional prosperity for the Institution . The annual subscriptions had been considerably in excess of those of any previous year , and the donations had enabled the Committee to invest a sum of A 1156 11 s . ( 3 d . The Committee resetted the loss by
death of their late Secretary , Mr . W . W . Jones . Inconsequence of the concessions made by Bro . H . B . Marshall , it was added , the Committee had been able to resume control of the Horace Marshall Pension Fund , under a rule which would be submitted to the meeting , and which had already been approved by the Registrar of Friendly Societies . The Chairman , in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet , warmly congratulated the members on the position of the Charity . He regretted ,
however , that more members of the trade were not members of the Institution . In conclusion , Bro . The report stated that during the year 1112 patients had been delivered in the hospital , and 1070 ; at their own homes . The expenditure had amounted to £ 4123
us . 1 id ,, and the ordinary income to £ 3501 17 s . id . H . R . H . the Prince of Wales ' s Fund had made a grant of £ 300 to the Hospital and £ 50 to the Convalescent Home . The enlargement of the Hospital was nearing completion , and the new Nurses' Home would be opened about Midsummer . The Chairman , in moving the adoption of the report and accounts , made an urgent appeal for contributions towards the £ 7030 still needed for the works to the Hospital and the new Nurses' Home .
THE GUILDHALL CRICKET CLUB . —The members of the Guildhal Cricket and Athletic Club assembled in large numbers on Friday , the 24 th ult ., at the Guildhall Tavern on the occasion ot their annual smoking concert . Bro . II . Homewood Crawford ( the P . esident ) occupied the chair , and was supported , among others , by Bro . Sir John B . Monckton ( lhe late President ) , Mr . Alderman Truscott , Mr . J . H . Batty , CC , Mr . F . S . Jackson ( the Registrar of the Lord Mayor ' s Court ) , Bro . Col . T . Davies Sewell ( theTreasurer ) , Mr . C . V . Crawford , Mr . W . S . Singer , Mr . P . O . Pickering , Mr . A .
Stannicr , Mr . E . R . Hornblower ( the late Secretary ) , Mr . C . J . Lungley ( the Hon Secretary ) , and Mr . J . L . Douthwaite . It was appropriate that at such a gathering some recognition should bc made of the services rendered by the late President to the club during the many years he had occupied that position , and the President asked Sir John to accept on behalf of the members a handsomely-emblazoned and framed vote of thanks , and , in addition , an album containing the signatures of the members . The address was as follows : " At the annual general meeting of the members of
the Guildhall Cricket and Athletic Club , held at the Guildhall on May 4 th , it was resolved -unanimously : That the resignation of the President , Sir John Braddick Monckton , F . S . A ., ToAin Clerk of tbe City of London , be received with sincere regret . His acceptance of ollice 13 years since laid the foundation of the cluh's prosperity , and individually the members gratefully acknowledge that his constant presence among them brought with it the invaluihle influence of a thorough gentleman and a true sportsman , and so conduced year by year
to increasing good-fellowship throughout thc club . The club are assured that nothing but the plcasantest memories will suiround his presidency , and in the lirm be ief that he wi ) l continue to take a lively interest in their welfare , the msm ' jers trust he will accspt the heartiest expression of esteem and gratitude ot those whoss pleasure , he his ever promoted . " The presentation was made to the accompaniment of loud cheers , with which Sir John was again greeted on rising to accept the gifts . In a geniil and amusing speech the late President thanked the members for their kindness . The masical portion of the entertainment was then proceeded with .
