M ., the late Secretary of the lodge , with a beautiful Secretary ' s

Bro . Hill , in his reply , regretted that his year ol office had thus far been a barren < ne . He hoped , however , that at the next meeting a candidate would be forthcoming . He had had a very pleasant time of it in the chair , and how could it be otherwise , when he had been fo loyally suppoited by the Past Masters , who were , without exception , a jolly set of fellows .

It had not been his good fortune , he said , to pass the chair in the Craft or Arch vet , therefore he hailed with pleasure the opportunity that the Mark Degree aff irded . He could not hone to perform the work well , but he would do his best to sustain the reputation of the Sir Francis Burdett Lodge . Bros . C . H . Kohler and E . W . Premier Conclave . A meeting of this old and distinguished conclave was held at Mark Masons' Hall , Great Oueen-street , W . C , on the Gth ult . Among those in attendance w 're Sir Knights J . Purrott , P . M . P . S . as M . P . S ., in the unavoidable and regrettable absence through indifposition of Sir Knight Lawrence Steele ; H . J . Lardner , P . M . P . S ., P . G . C ., Treas ., as V . E . ; E . P . Moore , J . General ; Maj ir T . C . Walls , P . M . P . S ., P . G . G ., Recorder ; R . Barnes , Prelate ; and Frater F . Reinardt , Sentinel .
The minutes of the previous conclave were read and conlirmed . Ihe Recorder announced that a meeting of the Grand Contlave of England and Wales would be held at the Mark Masons' Hall , on Monday , the Gth prox ., when the Degrees of K . H . S . and St . John the Evangelist would be conferred upon duly qualified candidates . He believed that the work would be partly or wholly perfjrmed by the members of a well-known provincial conclave , and that the Illustrious Grand Sovereign would preside . Apologies
for non-attendance were received tro n Sir Knights the Rev . R . C Fillingham , M . A ., V . E . elect ; H . Humphries , Orator ; G . Graveley , P . M . P . S . ; G . Powell , P . M . P . S . ; T . The banquet was held at the Cafe Royal , Regent-street , VV ., and gave unqualified satisfaction . Upon the removal of the cloth the customary toasts received full justice . " The Health of the M . W . " was given in fluent terms by the I . P . M . W . S . In the course of his speech he congratulated Ex .-Bro . Junes Speller upon the highly creditable
manner in which he had performed the ceremony of perfection that day . The M . W . S ., having briefly replied , gave the remaining toasts in quick succession . ' An agreeable feature ol the proceedings was an excellent programme of vocal music under the management of Bro . Egbert Roberts . The members adjourned at an early hour .
