DARWEN . R ., who performed the beautiful ceremony with care and solemnity , and in so masterly a manner as to call forth high words of praise from the members . It is worthy of remark here , that Bro . Thomas has for at least 30 years performed the ceremony of installation at this

lodge , and so satisfied have the Past Masters been with the ceremony , that during the last year those Past Masters who are still living presented to Bro . Thomas an enlarged photo , in Masonic colours and suitably framed , of himself , and at this installation meeting the same body of Past Masters presented him with a beautifully bound photo album containing photos , as far as possible , of all the Past Masters of

the lodge whom Bro . Thomas has installed during the last 30 years . Bro . J . Wardley , P . Although Bro . Thomas appears a hale and hearty brother , his

advancing age begins to bear a slight trace of his fingers , and together with the fact of having lost his partner in life during the last few months , the respected brother was visibly affected during his reply . The Province of East Lancashire is to be complimented in having had the services of so valuable and able an exponent of Freemasonry in all its various branches as we have in this venerable

and distinguished brother . After the installation Bro . J . Wardley , P . M ., P . P . G . D . C , invested the following officers : Bros . VV . Stubbs , S . W . ; T . Duxbury , J . VV . ; Sam . H . The Worshipful Master ' s year had been , and would prove to be , before he

left the chair , the most progressive and arduous of any Master's since the foundation of the Iodge . This toast having been well received , The VV . DARWEN . Lodge of Harmony and Industry ( No . 3 S 1 ) . —On Thursday , the gth inst-, the annual meetingof this lodge was held in the beautiful suite of rooms in the Masonic Hall for the installation of the VV . M . elect and the investiture of his officers . After the usual formalities attendant upon the opening of the lodge , the W . M . elect

was presented for the benefit of installation , the Installing Master being Bro . Franklin Thomas , P . M . 345 , P . P . S . G . W ., P . P . G .

M ., made the presentation on . behalf of the Past Masters in suitable terms , and the recipient received the present in a few kindly and welltimed sentences , running over the named period of his connection with the lodge with mingled feelings .

VV . ; Sam . H . highly respected by his brethren , and the investiture was performed in a praiseworthy manner . The brethren afterwards celebrated the Festival of St . John in the large lodge room , and afterwards the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly given and Masonically honoured .

Bro . Wardly acted as D . C . during the period of going through the toasts , Bro . Stubbs , S . VV ., presented on behalf of the oflicers of last year , to their retiring VV . M ., Bro . Sam . H . Grant ' s accession to office he had initiated iC gentlemen into Freemasonry . This prosperous state of things had again brought the Wolsey Lodge well to the front on the Middlesex roll of lodges . The Worshipful Master ' s year had been , and would prove to be , before he

left the chair , the most progressive and arduous of any Master's since the foundation of the Iodge . This toast having been well received , The VV . M . expressed his acknowledgments in fluent but modest terms . In the intervals of the speeches , Bros . Packington , Jehu , J . J . McCarthy , and others instrumentally and vocally entertained the brethren .
