Pro Grand Master , " & c , said that in that Degree they had an advantage not offered in the Craft—the system of promotion . In the Craft when Grand office was obtained by a brother he remained in that position for the remainder of his days . In the Mark it was somewhat different j Grand Officers who had taken very great interest in the Degree might go higher .
Bro . John Whitehead , I . P . M ., proposed "The VV . M ., " whom , he said , had taken great interest in that lodge , and had worked hard to bring it to its present position . Under him it would still further increase in popularity . The W . M ., in replying , said he was made a Mark Mason in the lodge , and had been a member of it ever since . He aspired to the chair when he first joined it , and
he was now extremely glad to fill the position ol W . M . He was pleased to see so many friends rally round him . He then proposed " The Victors . " Pro . Lord Ampthill , in reply , said that although usually he did not like to return thanks unexpectedly , he could honestly say that he never had greater pleasure in doing so thin then . Not only had he and the other visitors had an extremely pleasant evening , but he had seen what to him

Caesarean Lodge ( No . 74 ) . —The steady progress this branch of Freemasonry is making in the Channel Islands could not have been more forcibly or more satisfactorily exemplified than in the proceedings of this lod ge on Wednesday , the 15 th inst . That much of the zeal and energy now exhibited in the practice and exercise
of this important and most interesting Degree is undoubtedl y due to the warm support and encouragement of the Prov . Grand Master is admitted by all . Bro . Colonel Malet de Carteret was one of the first to re-establish this lod ge and to start it as a thoroughly efficient working lodge , after a long period of flickering existence and semi-abeyance , and when some four vears ago he consented to accept

At the conclusion ofthe work , which was beautifull y performed , Bro . V , ' . VV . B . BKACII , M . P ., proposed , and Bro . Sir J B . MONCKTON seconded , a vote of thanks to the working brethren . The motion having been carried , Bro . FKNN acknowledged the vote , and said the
brethren who had worked the Sections were extremel y gratified with the approbation of the brethren . He stated later on , when new members were proposed , that there were 6000 past and present members of the lodge , that the joining fee was 2 s . 6 d . and the contribution each night a member attended is ., that the whole of the money , with the exception of a small sum for working expenses , was devoted to the Charities ; that
last year the lodge gave . £ 40 to the three Institutions , besides £ " 10 to the unsuccessful candidates for the Benevolent Institution . The Iodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to Freemasons' Tavern , where Bro . W . W . B . Beach presided in the large hall , and Bro . Sudlow in the drawing room . When the cloth was cleared Grace was said , and the toasts were proposed .
" lhe Queen and the Craft , " "The M . W . G . M ., " and "The Pro G . M . and the rest of the Grand Officers" having been drunk , Bro . Sir J MONCKTON , P . G . W ., replied to the last of these toasis , and , in the course of his observations , said , with reference to the good Masons did for the Charities , that after the meeting of the General
Committee of the Girls' School , the day before the quarterl y meeting of the Committee Dinner Club , the building of the new Alexandra Hall was mentioned , and the President said what a pity it was the hall had not an organ . The motion was considered a good one , and , betore the brethren— \ 6 in number—lelt the table , four trustees were appointed , and a subscription of ^ 120 was raised .

At the conclusion ofthe work , which was beautifull y performed , Bro . V , ' . VV . B . BKACII , M . P ., proposed , and Bro . Sir J B . MONCKTON seconded , a vote of thanks to the working brethren . The motion having been carried , Bro . FKNN acknowledged the vote , and said the
brethren who had worked the Sections were extremel y gratified with the approbation of the brethren . He stated later on , when new members were proposed , that there were 6000 past and present members of the lodge , that the joining fee was 2 s . 6 d . and the contribution each night a member attended is ., that the whole of the money , with the exception of a small sum for working expenses , was devoted to the Charities ; that
last year the lodge gave . £ 40 to the three Institutions , besides £ " 10 to the unsuccessful candidates for the Benevolent Institution . The Iodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to Freemasons' Tavern , where Bro . W . W . B . Beach presided in the large hall , and Bro . Sudlow in the drawing room . When the cloth was cleared Grace was said , and the toasts were proposed .
" lhe Queen and the Craft , " "The M . W . G . M ., " and "The Pro G . M . and the rest of the Grand Officers" having been drunk , Bro . Sir J MONCKTON , P . G . W ., replied to the last of these toasis , and , in the course of his observations , said , with reference to the good Masons did for the Charities , that after the meeting of the General
Committee of the Girls' School , the day before the quarterl y meeting of the Committee Dinner Club , the building of the new Alexandra Hall was mentioned , and the President said what a pity it was the hall had not an organ . The motion was considered a good one , and , betore the brethren— \ 6 in number—lelt the table , four trustees were appointed , and a subscription of ^ 120 was raised .
