Oswell Livingstone ss'as born in South Africa in the early missionary days of his father , about 45 years ago , and svas named after his father's friend , Mr . Oswell , with svhom the great traveller made his memorable journey to Lake Ngami . Mr . Ossvell Lis'ingstone had been settled for some years at St .
Albans as a physician , but had for a long time been fading asvay from consumption . It may be remembered that he took part in the search expedition sent out in 1 S 72 by the Royal Geographical Society to find and succcour his father , the wreck of which Mr . Stanley met on his svay to the coast after he had found and relies'ed Livingstone . The only surviving children of Living-stone are Mrs . A . L . Bruce , of Edinburgh , and Mrs . Wilson , svho resides at Kendal .
I he funeral of the late Bro . John Pursall took place on December 26 th , at the Cemetery , Warstone-lane , Birmingham . By the death of Bro . Pursall the Craft in the Province of Warsvickshire have suffered a heavy loss . The deceased brother vvas a P . P . G . W . and Preceptor to the general lodge of instruction , P . P . G . J . of the Prov . Grand Chapter and Preceptor to the chapter of instruction . He
has been a prominent figure among Alasons for something like 45 years , and during that long period has served every office connected vvith Masonry . His services as Preceptor for nearly 30 years will long live in the memory of local members of the Craft , and the training of the present generation of Masons is largely due to his perfect svorking
of the ritual . He had the respect and esteem of every member of the Fraternity . At the funeral there svas a large gathering of friends , svho attended to pay a tribute of respect to the memory of their dead brother . 'The Provincial Grand Lodge and the various lodges of the province were largely represented .
'The Freemasons of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight have at their head an enthusiastic and energetic member of the Craft . " An old Parliamentary hand " ' ( Mr . VV . VV . B . Beach has had a seat at St . Stephen ' s for more than 30 years ) , he finds time , even svhen his senatorial duties demand attendance at Westminster , to respond to invitations to visit lodges in different parts of the province , and under
his genial and popular rule—svhich has nosv extended over 20 years—there has been a large increase in the numerical strength of the Craft . Mr . Beach has taken a svarm interest in the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Masonic Educational and Benevolent Institution , svhich , though in its infancy , has acquired quite a respectable reserve , and is now educating six children in good schools near the residences of their
relatiVes , so that the home influence is not lost . Mr . Beach presided at the festival of the Institution svhich svas held at Landport on 'Tuesday , svhen , osving to various causeschiefly the severe sveather—the attendance svas not equal to svhat had been looked for . But then Mr . G . F . Lancaster , the " father" of the Institution , and its indefatigable hon .
Secretary , had the pleasing duty of announcing that the Stesvards had brought in goodly lists of subscriptions from their lodges and from individual Masons , the total reaching close upon £ 450 . James Hill Woods , Northern Bank , Belfast , to supper , and also to present to him an address and presentation on the occasion of his marriage . At a special meeting of the Hiram Lodge , No . 200 S ( E . C ) , Christchurch , Nesv Zealand , held to consider the Nesv Zealand Grand Lodge question , the follosving resolution svas unanimously carried : " That Lodge Hiram still remain in allegiance to the Grand Lodge of England , and postpones consideration of the matter to a future occasion . " The latter clause , it will be noticed , vvas not embodied in the telegram from Dunedin .
Lord Knutsford , Secretary for the Colonies , arrived in London on 'Tuesday last , and spent several hours in transacting business at the Colonial Office . At noon he sent a special messenger to Hatfield svith despatches for Lord Salisbury . It is understood that the communications had reference to Ssvaziland and Sir Francis de Winton's mission there . The Colonial Secretary left London in the evening for Whitley , near Godalming .

The death is announced ot Mr . Oswell Livingstone , the last surviving son of the great missionary explorer . Mr . Oswell Livingstone ss'as born in South Africa in the early missionary days of his father , about 45 years ago , and svas named after his father's friend , Mr . Oswell , with svhom the great traveller made his memorable journey to Lake Ngami . Mr . Ossvell Lis'ingstone had been settled for some years at St .
Albans as a physician , but had for a long time been fading asvay from consumption . It may be remembered that he took part in the search expedition sent out in 1 S 72 by the Royal Geographical Society to find and succcour his father , the wreck of which Mr . Stanley met on his svay to the coast after he had found and relies'ed Livingstone . The only surviving children of Living-stone are Mrs . A . L . Bruce , of Edinburgh , and Mrs . Wilson , svho resides at Kendal .
I he funeral of the late Bro . John Pursall took place on December 26 th , at the Cemetery , Warstone-lane , Birmingham . By the death of Bro . Pursall the Craft in the Province of Warsvickshire have suffered a heavy loss . The deceased brother vvas a P . P . G . W . and Preceptor to the general lodge of instruction , P . P . G . J . of the Prov . Grand Chapter and Preceptor to the chapter of instruction . He
has been a prominent figure among Alasons for something like 45 years , and during that long period has served every office connected vvith Masonry . His services as Preceptor for nearly 30 years will long live in the memory of local members of the Craft , and the training of the present generation of Masons is largely due to his perfect svorking
of the ritual . He had the respect and esteem of every member of the Fraternity . At the funeral there svas a large gathering of friends , svho attended to pay a tribute of respect to the memory of their dead brother . 'The Provincial Grand Lodge and the various lodges of the province were largely represented .
'The Freemasons of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight have at their head an enthusiastic and energetic member of the Craft . " An old Parliamentary hand " ' ( Mr . VV . VV . B . Beach has had a seat at St . Stephen ' s for more than 30 years ) , he finds time , even svhen his senatorial duties demand attendance at Westminster , to respond to invitations to visit lodges in different parts of the province , and under
his genial and popular rule—svhich has nosv extended over 20 years—there has been a large increase in the numerical strength of the Craft . Mr . Beach has taken a svarm interest in the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Masonic Educational and Benevolent Institution , svhich , though in its infancy , has acquired quite a respectable reserve , and is now educating six children in good schools near the residences of their
relatiVes , so that the home influence is not lost . Mr . Beach presided at the festival of the Institution svhich svas held at Landport on 'Tuesday , svhen , osving to various causeschiefly the severe sveather—the attendance svas not equal to svhat had been looked for . But then Mr . G . F . Lancaster , the " father" of the Institution , and its indefatigable hon .
Secretary , had the pleasing duty of announcing that the Stesvards had brought in goodly lists of subscriptions from their lodges and from individual Masons , the total reaching close upon £ 450 . We regret to announce the death of Bro . W . C . Basher , of 8 , Oxford-street , W ., on the 27 th of December . Ihe funeral took place at Finchley on the 31 st . Thc Freemasons of Dudley have resolved to hold a grand Masonic ball about the latter part of the month of February . A very large Committee , including most of the influential Masons of North London , vvith Bro . Herbert Sprate as President , is preparing for a ball , on behalf of the Masonic Charities , vvhich will be given tosvards the end of next month , at the Freemasons' Tavern .

On Friday last the members of the Cullybackey Lodge , No . 537 ( I . C ) , met in the Masonic Hall for the purpose of entertaining Bro . James Hill Woods , Northern Bank , Belfast , to supper , and also to present to him an address and presentation on the occasion of his marriage . T he address was very neatly engrossed and illuminated by Bro .

The Board of I rade have asvarded testimonials to the cresvs of the Brazilian tugs Plata and Emperor in recognition of their services in assisting to rescue the cresv of the British barque Georgina , vvhich svas svrecked in a storm on English Bank , in the River Plata , on the 21 st August last , namely : —A gold medal for humanity to Antonio Fassio ,

Hart , and erected , out of due consideration to the patients , svith scarcely any hammering .
