A Committee was appointed to frame by-laws , and the new W . M . was appointed to represent Lodge No . 2215 on the Charity Committee . Several candidates were proposed for election , and the lodge was then closed in the usual way . Bro . Moulding , later in the evening , entertained the brethren at dinner

in the Sandon Hotel , Oakfield-road , and , after full justice had been done to the refreshments , the loyal toasts were proposed and received with honours . In reply to the toast of " Masonic Rulers , Supreme and Subordinate , "

the PROV . G . SEC . said he felt sure that any Iodge ruled over by Bro . Houlding would be well conducted . He wished the Anfield a very prosperous career , and he hoped that the subordinate officers to the W . M . would endeavour to follow in his footsteps . ( Hear , hear . )

Bro . HOULDING , in response , said in 1877 he was VV . M . of the Everton Lodge and Chairman of the West Derby Board of Guardians , and history had so far repeated itself that in 1887 he was W . M . of the Anfield Lodge and Chairman of the VVest Derby Board of Guardians a second lime , ( Hear , hear . ) He felt sure that all the members of the nevv lodge would

work vvith him in trying to make it a prosperous one ; and he thought they would be able to work it on such economical lines that at the end of each year a considerable amount of money would be available for division amongst the Masonic Charities of the kingdom . Such were the lines upon

which he intended to work the lodsre , and he believed his successors would be actuated by the same spirit . ( Hear , hear . ) On behalf of the lodge , he begged to tender to Bro , Goodacre hearty thanks for the manner in which the lodge had been consecrated . ( Applause . )

PROVINCIAL GRAND CHAPTER OF DEVONSHIRE .

The above Provincial Grand Chapter was held on the 24 th ult ., at the Masonic Hall , Tiverton . Through the hospitality of the Mayor , Comp . T , Ford , jun ., P . Z . 1125 , P . P . G . T ., alarge number of the companions lunched with his Worship at the Town Hall on their arrival early in the afternoon . The Mayor presided , and amongst others present were Comps . VV . G .

Rogers , Prov . G . H . ; Rev . T . VV . Lemon , M . A ., Prov . G . J , ; J . Brewer , Prov . G . S . E . ; W . Vicary , Prov . G . S . N . ; and others . After lunch vvas concluded , "The Health of Comp . Ford" was very heartily drunk , and the companions then adjourned to the Masonic Hall . There the handsome and elegantly fitted lodge room of the St . Peter ' s Lodge , 1125 , was arranged as a chapter room for the occasion , and the convocation was opened .

Boys , the money to be placed to the lists of the Stewards , Comps . J . Brewer and the Rev . W . Whittley . A vote of condolence to Comp . Blanchard , expressive of sympathy with him at his continued ill-health , was carried , and a gratuity of two guineas was voted to the Grand Janitor ' s usual allowance ,

Sale Of Old Bibles.

SALE OF OLD BIBLES .

The Library of the late Bro . John Hirst , J . P . of Ladcastle , Dobcross , is to be sold by Messrs . Sotheby , Wilkinson , and Hodge , at Wellingtonstreet , Strand , on December 14 th to the 23 rd . There are 3475 lots ,

representing about 5000 volumes , many of which are of great rarity and value . In Old Bibles and Missals , the collection is especially rich , varied , and important , many being of such antiquity and scarcity that doubtless there will be no lack of competition ( or several of the special lots .

lodo justice to Bro . Hirst ' s Library in a short sketch would be an impossibility , but the numerous versions and editions of "the volume of the Sacred Law" call for a rapid survey , at least , in the columns of the Organ of the Craft .

Of the MSS . none appear to need particularization , but of printed Bibles there are so many that even to make a selection is a matter of considerable difficulty . An earl y Latin folio is noted of 1475 , being the first printed by Koberger , and said to be " extremely rare . " Another occurs of 1478 , in oak boards , covered in stamped pigskin , one of same edition at

fetching ^ 43 ios . the Wodhull sale . No . 386 was in the Library of H . R . H . Dukeof Sussex ( Grand Master ) , is of the year 1569 , and made ; £ i 2 14 s . when it occurred for sale . The first Dutch version of the Old Testament of 1477 , which is No . 393 , is valuable and rare , one obtaining ^ , 18 ios . at Bro , Lord Crawford ' s sale , We must pass over Bibles in other

The minutes and balance sheet were read and approved . It was proposed , seconded , and carried by acclamation , that Bro . the Hon . W . T . Orde-Powlett be elected to the office of Prov . Grand Master for the ensuing three years , and that such appointment be submitted to H . R . H . the Grand Master for confirmation .

Bro . T . B . WHYTEHEAD , P . G , Sec , having announced his desire to be relieved of the duties of that office , the Provincial Grand Master announced that he had appointed Bro . A . W . SALE OF OLD BIBLES .

The Library of the late Bro . John Hirst , J . P . of Ladcastle , Dobcross , is to be sold by Messrs . Sotheby , Wilkinson , and Hodge , at Wellingtonstreet , Strand , on December 14 th to the 23 rd . There are 3475 lots ,

representing about 5000 volumes , many of which are of great rarity and value . In Old Bibles and Missals , the collection is especially rich , varied , and important , many being of such antiquity and scarcity that doubtless there will be no lack of competition ( or several of the special lots .

lodo justice to Bro . Hirst ' s Library in a short sketch would be an impossibility , but the numerous versions and editions of "the volume of the Sacred Law" call for a rapid survey , at least , in the columns of the Organ of the Craft .

Of the MSS . none appear to need particularization , but of printed Bibles there are so many that even to make a selection is a matter of considerable difficulty . An earl y Latin folio is noted of 1475 , being the first printed by Koberger , and said to be " extremely rare . " Another occurs of 1478 , in oak boards , covered in stamped pigskin , one of same edition at

fetching ^ 43 ios . the Wodhull sale . No . 386 was in the Library of H . R . H . Dukeof Sussex ( Grand Master ) , is of the year 1569 , and made ; £ i 2 14 s . when it occurred for sale .
