A Court of Governors of the East Lancashire Systematic Masonic Educational and Benevolent Institution was held subsequently , Colonel Starkie presiding . Bro . Chadwick , Secretary , read a report which stated that , notwithstanding the noble effort made by the province in aid of the great Central Masonic Charities , the receipts of the local Charities would be found

at the close of the year to be in excess of the expenditure . The teceipts up to date were ^ 593 8 s . 6 d ., and the payments had been ^ 423 14 s . 6 d ., of which amount £ 252 *< 8 s . 6 d . had been paid for education , - £ 50 by the Relief Board , ^ 43 6 s . 6 d . by the Almoners , and ^ ig for a Jubilee Exhibition treat to the children . Out of a balance of £ 903 in the bank on the 1 st January , £ 512 ios . had been invested . The report was adopted .

PROVINCIAL GRAND LODGE OF NORTHUMBERLAND .

ANNUAL MEETING AT NEWCASTLE-ON-TYNE .

The annual Provincial Grand Lodge meeting of the Province of Northumberland was held in the Town Hall , Newcastle-on-Tyne , on Wednesday , the 23 rd ult . There was a large attendance of Provincial Officers and brethren . The Prov . Grand Master , Bro . Sir Matthew White Ridley , Bart ., M . P .,

presided , and was supported by Bros . R . H . Holmes , D . P . G . M ., P . G . D . Eng . ; R . Hudson , P . G . Sec . Durham , P . G . S . B . Eng . ; B . J . Thompson , P . G . Sec . Northumberland ; and a large number of distinguished Grand Officers and brethren . The lodge was held under the banner of the Tyne Lodge .

The brethren assembled under their respective banners in the Town Hall , and rose to receive the Provincial Grand Master and Officers of Provincial Grand Lodge , Present and Past . Provincial Grand Lodge was opened in due and solemn form by the PROV . GRAND MASTER , who was then saluted , as were also the Past Grand Officers who were present .

The usual reports from the various Committees were read and adopted . The roll of lodges was called by the acting P . G . D . of C , Bro . Adam Robertson , P . P . S . G . W ., of Alnwick . The reports from the several lodges were of a highly satisfactory character . The Provincial Grand Master afterwards appointed and invested the following Provincial Grand Officers ;—

The PROVINCIAL GRAND MASTER then addressed Provincial Grand Lodge . He had already directed the Provincial Grand Secretary to read a letter from the Right Hon . the Earl Percy , P . P . G . M ., acknowledging the kind expressions of the Provincial Grand Lodge at the occasion of his retirement last year . He then proceeded to refer in suitable terms to the great loss that province as well as the neighbouring province and , in fact , Masonry in general , had sustained through the death of Bro .

Edward Dean Davis , who had for a considerable number . of years officiated as Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies , and who had last year received Grand honours . For many years the province had received invaluable services from their late brother , whose guidance and direction would be remembered for years to come . He spoke in terms of high satisfaction with respect to the general position of the lodges , and further referred to matters affecting Masonry in the province , in the course of a most able and interesting address .

It was agreed that next year ' s meeting should take place in Newcastle under the banner of the Northern Counties Lodge . Provincial Grand Lodge was afterwards closed .

Consecration Of The Anfield Lodge, No, 2215.

CONSECRATION OF THE ANFIELD LODGE , No , 2215 .

If any evidence were needed of the growth of Freemasonry in the Province of West Lancashire it would be found in the consecration of a new Iodge , on Thursday , the 24 th ult ., in Liverpool , and in the fact that a newer lodge is to be consecrated next week , also in this city , by the Earl of

Lathom . The Anfield Lodge , No . 2215 , as its name denotes , is called after the extensive suburb in the north-east of Liverpool , which has increased so enormously of late years . Anfield has , in fact , advanced with marvellous strides , and the palpable want of a Masonic lodge for the large number of members of the Craft residing in that part of the city so impressed itself

upon certain members of the Everton Lodge , S 23 , some nine months ago that they resolved upon seeking the necessary permission to take steps to establish an offshoot of the parent stem . Ready consent was accorded , and afier several months of untiring attention to the object , the promoters were gratified yesterday by beholding the fruition of their labours in

Eatonhall , Breck-road . The Prov . G . M ., Bro . the Earl of Lathom , was prevented from undertaking the ceremony of consecration so the task devolved upon Bro . W . Goodacre , P . G . S . B . of England and Prov . G . Sec , who , upon

Ihe lodge having been opened with due ceremony by the Presiding Officer , the hymn beginning " Hail , Eternal , by whose aid , " was effectively sung . A short prayer was offered up by the PROV . G , CHAPLAIN , and

Bro . Dr . LAMBERT , P . G . R ., then announced that after due consideration H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , the M . W . G . M ., had signed and forwarded a charter , for the Anfield Lodge , No . 2215 , in answer to the prayer of the petitioners .

Ihe P . G . REGISTRAR read the petition and warrant , the latter document containing the names of the principal officers . In the course of an interesting oration on Freemasonry , the PROV . G , CHAPLAIN explained the leading principles of the Three Degrees , in which was to be found the true essence of the Order . Their motto was "

Brotherly Love , Relief , and Truth , " and at every point were these principles brought forward in the work of the Craft . The anthem " Behold , how good and joyful" followed , and the first portion of the dedication prayer was next read by Bro . the Rev . F . G . M'NALLY , The Presiding Officer afterwards invoked a blessing on the new lodge , and

a portion of Scripture , read by the Chaplain , succeeded . 1 he lodge board was then uncovered , and the Presiding Officers and Wardens carried the elements of consecration round the lodge to the accompaniment ot appropriate music . The Presiding Officer , after a brief interval , scattered corn on the floor as an emblem of plenty , spilt wine as an emblem of joy and

cheerfulness , poured out oil as an emblem of peace and unanimity , and sprinkled salt as an emblem of prosperity , happiness , and peace , this part of the ceremony being diversified by the reading of several short portions of Scripture by the Chaplain and the interpolation of musical responses from those present , The

Presiding Officer finally dedicated the lodge to God and His service , ancl also to the memory of King Solomon , under whose auspices Freemasonry had [ its origin . The ceremony concluded with the anthem , " Holy , holy , holy , Lord God Almighty , " by the Chaplain offering up the second portion

of the dedication prayer , by the Presiding Officer announcing that the . lodge vvas duly constituted , and by the benediction . The lodge was resumed in the Second Degree for the purpose of installing the W . M . elect , Bro . Councillor John Houlding , P . M , 823 , P . P . G . R ., who was presented by Bro ,

Lathom . The Anfield Lodge , No . 2215 , as its name denotes , is called after the extensive suburb in the north-east of Liverpool , which has increased so enormously of late years . Anfield has , in fact , advanced with marvellous strides , and the palpable want of a Masonic lodge for the large number of members of the Craft residing in that part of the city so impressed itself

upon certain members of the Everton Lodge , S 23 , some nine months ago that they resolved upon seeking the necessary permission to take steps to establish an offshoot of the parent stem . Ready consent was accorded , and afier several months of untiring attention to the object , the promoters were gratified yesterday by beholding the fruition of their labours in

Eatonhall , Breck-road . The Prov . G . M ., Bro . the Earl of Lathom , was prevented from undertaking the ceremony of consecration so the task devolved upon Bro . W . Goodacre , P . G . S . B . of England and Prov . G . Sec , who , upon

Ihe lodge having been opened with due ceremony by the Presiding Officer , the hymn beginning " Hail , Eternal , by whose aid , " was effectively sung . A short prayer was offered up by the PROV . G , CHAPLAIN , and

Bro . Dr . LAMBERT , P . G . R ., then announced that after due consideration H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , the M . W . G . M ., had signed and forwarded a charter , for the Anfield Lodge , No . 2215 , in answer to the prayer of the petitioners .

Ihe P . G . REGISTRAR read the petition and warrant , the latter document containing the names of the principal officers . In the course of an interesting oration on Freemasonry , the PROV . G , CHAPLAIN explained the leading principles of the Three Degrees , in which was to be found the true essence of the Order . Their motto was "

Brotherly Love , Relief , and Truth , " and at every point were these principles brought forward in the work of the Craft . The anthem " Behold , how good and joyful" followed , and the first portion of the dedication prayer was next read by Bro . the Rev . F . G . M'NALLY , The Presiding Officer afterwards invoked a blessing on the new lodge , and

a portion of Scripture , read by the Chaplain , succeeded . 1 he lodge board was then uncovered , and the Presiding Officers and Wardens carried the elements of consecration round the lodge to the accompaniment ot appropriate music . The Presiding Officer , after a brief interval , scattered corn on the floor as an emblem of plenty , spilt wine as an emblem of joy and

cheerfulness , poured out oil as an emblem of peace and unanimity , and sprinkled salt as an emblem of prosperity , happiness , and peace , this part of the ceremony being diversified by the reading of several short portions of Scripture by the Chaplain and the interpolation of musical responses from those present , The

Presiding Officer finally dedicated the lodge to God and His service , ancl also to the memory of King Solomon , under whose auspices Freemasonry had [ its origin . The ceremony concluded with the anthem , " Holy , holy , holy , Lord God Almighty , " by the Chaplain offering up the second portion

of the dedication prayer , by the Presiding Officer announcing that the . lodge vvas duly constituted , and by the benediction . The lodge was resumed in the Second Degree for the purpose of installing the W . M . elect , Bro . Councillor John Houlding , P . M , 823 , P . P . G . R ., who was presented by Bro ,
