great pride vvith which he had since worn it , he paraphrased " Verdant Green " by saying— " Which I ' ve been a P . After a brief expression of thanks for the kind words of Bro . Martyn and the present which had accompanied them , in acknowledgment , as he said , of " work done for the love of Masonry and not in expectancy of return , " Bro . Pratt proposed "The Masonic Charities , " enlarging on the manner in which the grand principles of the Order—Brotherly Love and Charity—were being carried out in the

present day , and read'ng some very interesting statistics relating to the several Institutions . He vvas pleased to find Bros . Binckes and Terry , the respective and , he would add , respected , Secretaries of two of the three Masonic Institutions present , and he would couple their names with the toast . Bros . Binckes and Terry , in responding , delighted their

hearers vvith brilliant speeches—too lengthy for space at our disposal , not lengthy enough , though the hour vvas late , for those vvho listened to them—and , as is usual vvith these worthy brethren when advocating the cause of their respective Institutions , brilliant , forcible , and appealing from beginning to end . To what effect they spoke may be judged from the fact that an immediate " whip round" produced

£ 13 to be placed on the list , vvith individual donations , of Bro . Oliver , P . M . 1008 , who has undertaken Stewardship for next Festival of the Benevolent Institution . Bro . W . Cuthbert Quilter , M . P ., proposed "The Health of the Initiates , " to which those brethren severally responded in choice terms of thankful acknowledgment to the lodee .

Ihe toast of "The Visitors , 35 in number , was responded to by Bro . James Stevens , P . M . 1216 , 1426 ; that of "The P . M . ' s and Officers" vvas proposed by Bro . C . Row ; and Bro . R . S . Joy ( Mayor of Sudbury ) proposed " The Musical Brethren , " in reference to vvhich toast we cannot conclude our report without congraKilating both vocalists and instrumentalists on the full success which attended their efforts to add to the enjoyment of all

present . The violin solo by Bro . F . B . Smythies deserves special mention as a brilliant execution of a very difficult composition . The Tyler ' s toast , at the most unusual hour of midnight , terminated a festival which will be long remembered in Sudbury , and vvhich vvas certainly most interesting and enjoyable throughout .

sum not exceeding five guineas to be voted from the lodge funds and placed on the list of Bro . Lewis , S . W . and W . pices . The Lodge of Israel vvas founded upwards of fourteen years ago , mainly for the purpose of affording Jewish Freemasons of the tovvn and district an opportunity of concentrating . present , several of the officers , including the Immediate Past Master , belong to the same general denomination . The lodge has flourished ever since the day of its consecration , and it may be of interest to state that it was the first Masonic body in this part of the country to establish a Fund of Benevolence , in aid of which a ball is annually

present , several of the officers , including the Immediate Past Master , belong to the same general denomination .
