M ., the Wardens , ¦ ml tlio brethren of the lodg-e , and the concluding oration on the nature of the institution of Freemasonry , thus bringing the ceremony to a close . The VV . M . then presented Bro . Cheek with a handsome I , A . [' jewel ( manufactured by Bro . Georg - e Kenning ) ,
which had been voted to him by the lodge , expressing it the same time his pleasure and that of all the brethren it seeing Bro . Cheek amongst them once more , and a hope that he might live for many years to wear the distinctive badge now presented to him . Bro . Cheek said he thanked the brethren very heartily for presenting him with that handsome jewel . He was pleased
to lind that the past year of the lodge had been a very good une from a financial point of view . He regretted his enforced absence through illness , and he could not allow this opportunity to pass without thanking Bro . Scurrah—and he wanted to do it formally , in face of the lodge—for having- so kindly assisted him , by doing his lodg - e work for him during his absence .
Bro . Scurrah said it had given him much satisfaction to he of use . He considered it a duty to do anything in his power for one who was , with himself and others , a founder of the Henry Levander Lodge . The report of the Audit Committee was received and adopted , and ordered to be entered on the minutes . The resignation of Bro . Jenkins , Org ., was accepted , and Bro .
Wheeler , Organist of the Hendon Lodge , was proposed as a joining member . The business of the day being' concluded , the lodge was closed , and -the brethren adjourned to the banquet room , where they dined together . Bro . Hamlin ( Unity Lodge ) the host , deserves great credit for the admirable manner in which the dinner was served . The dinner itself was
excellent in quality and cooked to perfection , and as the brethren were a good deal behind time in coming to table , they were all furnished with that best of sauces , hunger , and did ample justice to Bro . "TheOueen and the Craft , " and "The Grand Master , " were , of course , drunk with enthusiasm , the Master remarking that it was doubtless one of the happiest days of his Royal Highness ' s life .

or three words of thanks . Hc hardly knew how to express his feeling's on that occasion . He felt that they had had a most successful meeting . Hc believed he was booked to join that lodge two years before it was consecrated . He had at that time desired to become a Mason , but Bro . McKay persuaded him to wait until thc Henry Levander Lodge was consecrated . Hc had waited accordingly and was pleased
with the result , for after having'served in every office he had at length arrived at the dignify of the Master ' s chair . He concluded by again thanking- them for thc cordiality with which his health had been drunk . The Worshipful Master then proposed "The Health of the Past Masters and the Installing Master , " which was
responded to by Bro . Scurrah in both capacities , and Bro . McKay , Sec , added a few words for the other Past Masters . "The Health of the Visitors" followed , and was responded to by Bros . Storr , Thorn , and Dickie . Then came " The Officers of the Lodge , " and the Tyler ' s toast closed the proceedings .

BELVEDERE . Saye and Sele Lodge ( No . 1973 ) . —The installation meeting- of this lodg'e was held at the Saye and Sele Masonic Room , on Monday , the 22 nd ult . The VV . M ., Bro . Robinson , presided , and was supported by a large number of officers , members , and visitors . The lodge being- opened , and the minutes read and confirmed , the
newly-appointed P . G . R ., Bro . Wood , P . M ., was saluted . The VV . M . elect , Bro . Herbert Edgar Russell , S . W ., was then presented by Bro . Wood , P . M ., for the benefit of installation , and that ceremony was performed in an exceptionally able and eloquent manner by his father , Bro . the Rev . Thomas Russell , P . M . 251 , P . P . G . C . Oxon , and P . S . G . W . Devon , who attended for the purpose , at the kind
invitation of the retiring - W . M ., who gracefully stood aside on the occasion . On the rc-admission of the brethren , the new W . M . was saluted and proclaimed , and the addresses eloquently and impressively delivered . The newly-appointed VV . M . then proposed a vote of thanks to the Installing Master , who , in responding , mentioned that a desire of many years had just
been fulfilled in having been enabled to place his son in the chair of King- Solomon , and cordially thanked Bro . Robinson , I . P . M ., for his self-abnegation in permitting him to perform the ceremony . The VV . M . then presented the P . M . ' s jewel of the lodge to Bro . Robinson , with a cordial acknowledgment of the services rendered during- the past year . The I . P . M . thanked the W . M . and brethren , and ,
while admitting- his regret at not having- had the pleasure of performing - the ceremony himself , stated he could not fail to yield to the very natural desire of the W . M . ' s father , and took the opportunity to congratulate both father and son on so auspicious an occasion , the more memorable as , by a coincidence , it happened to be the W . M . 's birthday . The officers were appointed and invested as follows : Bros .

Creed , whe had acted as Tyler for several years , expressed a wish to retire , on account of change of avocation rendering it difficult for him to give the necessary time . After an
expression of regret at the loss of his services , Bro . Gale was unanimously elected to the post , and duly invested . Bro . Wood , P . M ., P . G . R ., was re-elected Charity Representative , and Bro . Bateman , P . M ., was re-elected House Stwd . "Hearty good wishes" were expressed by a large number of visiting brethren , and the lodge was closed . A banquet was subsequently partaken of in the lodge
banquet room , after which the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured . Bro . Wood , P . G . R ., responded for "Thc Provincial Grand Officers . " The Installing Master congratulated the members of the lodge on their premises and general arrangements . Several visiting brethren returned thanks for the toast of
" The Visitors , " the Wardens for that of "The Officers , " and Bro . Heaps for "The Charities . " The Tyler ' s toast brougTit to a close one of the most successful meetings ever held by the lodge . Bros . Page , Rev . T . Russell , and Elliot rendered splendid entertainment with songs , Bro . Col . A . Adams gave two admirable recitations , and Bro . Blaxland , solos on the
clarionet ; while Bro . Ruck , the Organist , accompanied throughout in his well-known able manner . The arrangements from first to last were admirable , and reflected the highest credit on the energetic and indefatig'ablc Secretary , Bro . Heaps , to whom the lodge has been for several years under a deep load of obligation , not only forthe purely Masonic part of his duties , but for the constant care and attention bestowed on the lodge premises .

Westfield , and the minutes of the previous meeting having been passed , Bro . C . T . Lewis , P . M . 1472 , P . G . S . B ., acting as D . C , presented Bro . Smith to the VV . M ., to receive at his hands the benefits of installation , and handsomely did our old friend and brother perform the ceremony . Bro . Smith having been saluted by a Board of Installed

Bro . G . Hughes , late Secretary , compelled
through pressure of business to resign the lodge , was unanimously elected an honorary member as some recognition of valuable services rendered the lodge at its foundation , and then the lodg -e was closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet . Manning , in responding - , said it was an honour to be associated with the Prov . Grand Officers ot the
Province of Essex , and he felt it acutely , and wished there had been more of the Grand Officers present to witness thc excellent working of Bro . Westfield as Installing Officer . He hoped the lodge would be well represented at the forthcoming Provincial Grand Lodge at Dunmow , on the 6 th August , and advised those who intended to go to makean early application for tickets . He hoped the lodge would go on
and prosper , and that the good feeling which ought to exist among- Masons would always exist in it . Bro . Lewis regretted the absence of Bro . Lord Brooke , and also that their esteemed Bro . Railing , P . G . Sec , could not attend , but hoped to see them well at Dunmow . The Immediate Past Master then proposed the toast of "TheW . M . '' He said they were all perfectly well aware
of their W . M . ' s ability to conduct the business of the lodge , he being a P . M . of a lodg-e of great eminence in the City of London . His geniality and g ood feeling they had all appreciated , and if they differed about minor points he felt sure there was no ill-feeling ' , and he was also sure that Bro . Smith would employ his great talents to the welfare and prosperity of the lodge .
The Worshipful Master thanked the I . P . M . and brethren for the toast , and assured them that he should endeavour to carry out the duties of his office to the best of his abilities , so that at the end of his year of office they may say that he had done his work with credit to himself and honour to the lodge . in putting it , the W . M . complimented Bro . Westfield upon the perfect manner in which he had performed the ceremony . He also presented Bro . Westfield with a handsome Past Master ' s jewel ( manufactured by Bro . George Kenning ) for services rendered , and to mark the esteem of the brethren , for both of which ( the toast and the jewel ) Bro . Westfield suitably returned thanks .

LANCASTER . Duke of Lancaster Lodge ( No . 1353 ) . — The annual installation meeting-of the above lodge was held on the evening of the 17 th ult . There was a good attendance . The lodge was opened by Bro . P . Dutton , the retiring W . M ., and the usual routine business transacted . Bro . J . Ellershaw , P . M ., then took the chair as Installing Officer ,
and a Board of Installed Masters having been formed , Bro . Richard Mortimer , S . W . and W . M . elect , was presented by Bros . John _ Barrow , P . M ., and Robert Wolfenden , P . M ., and duly installed into the chair of K . S ., the Installing Officer being assisted in the ceremony by Bros . J . D . Bell , P . M ., and Richard Nicholson , P . M . 281 . The VV . M . then appointed his officers for the year as follows : Bros . Dutton

I he installation banquet and picnic took place on the 24 th ult ., when about 30 members and friends went by train to Clapham , which was reached soon after 11 o ' clock . The house of Bro . Henry Coates—the Flying Horse Shoe -was made the head-quarters of the party , and after a short stay here the brethren and a number of lady friends were conveyed into the village of Clapham . The cave was , of
course , visited , and several of the party entered , but the majority contented themselves with strolling through the beautiful grounds , now rich with foliag - e . The weather up to 2 o ' clock was favourable for out-door exercises , but at that time threatening clouds began to gather , and a move bade to the Flying Horse Shoe was accelerated . A most sumptuous banquet , well served , was provided for
the entertainment of the brethren and their friends , who vigorously displayed their thorough appreciation of thc good things set down for their refreshment . The W . M . ( Bro . R . Mortimer ) presided , and the meal over , the loyal toasts usual on such occasions were duly honoured . The Master and his officers were also toasted , and in the intervals
several of the brethren contributed to the entertainment by their vocal efforts . 'The excursion and its accompaniments were thoroughly enjoyed by all present , and before the party broke up the host and hostess were warmly thanked for the excellent provision they had made and for their courtesy in providing for the comfort of their guests .

Nelson Lodge ( No . 700 ) . —There was a grand gathering , on Wednesday , the 17 th ult ., of the members and friends of this lodge , at the Freemasons' Temple , Mount Pleasant , to witness tbe installation of Bro . or three words of thanks . Hc hardly knew how to express his feeling's on that occasion . He felt that they had had a most successful meeting . Hc believed he was booked to join that lodge two years before it was consecrated . He had at that time desired to become a Mason , but Bro . McKay persuaded him to wait until thc Henry Levander Lodge was consecrated . Hc had waited accordingly and was pleased
with the result , for after having'served in every office he had at length arrived at the dignify of the Master ' s chair . He concluded by again thanking- them for thc cordiality with which his health had been drunk . The Worshipful Master then proposed "The Health of the Past Masters and the Installing Master , " which was
responded to by Bro . Scurrah in both capacities , and Bro . McKay , Sec , added a few words for the other Past Masters . "The Health of the Visitors" followed , and was responded to by Bros . Storr , Thorn , and Dickie . Then came " The Officers of the Lodge , " and the Tyler ' s toast closed the proceedings .

BELVEDERE . Saye and Sele Lodge ( No . 1973 ) . —The installation meeting- of this lodg'e was held at the Saye and Sele Masonic Room , on Monday , the 22 nd ult . The VV . M ., Bro . Robinson , presided , and was supported by a large number of officers , members , and visitors . The lodge being- opened , and the minutes read and confirmed , the
newly-appointed P . G . R ., Bro . Wood , P . M ., was saluted . The VV . M . elect , Bro . Herbert Edgar Russell , S . W ., was then presented by Bro . Wood , P . M ., for the benefit of installation , and that ceremony was performed in an exceptionally able and eloquent manner by his father , Bro . the Rev . Thomas Russell , P . M . 251 , P . P . G . C . Oxon , and P . S . G . W . Devon , who attended for the purpose , at the kind
invitation of the retiring - W . M ., who gracefully stood aside on the occasion . On the rc-admission of the brethren , the new W . M . was saluted and proclaimed , and the addresses eloquently and impressively delivered . The newly-appointed VV . M . then proposed a vote of thanks to the Installing Master , who , in responding , mentioned that a desire of many years had just
been fulfilled in having been enabled to place his son in the chair of King- Solomon , and cordially thanked Bro . Robinson , I . P . M ., for his self-abnegation in permitting him to perform the ceremony . The VV . M . then presented the P . M . ' s jewel of the lodge to Bro . Robinson , with a cordial acknowledgment of the services rendered during- the past year . The I . P . M . thanked the W . M . and brethren , and ,
while admitting- his regret at not having- had the pleasure of performing - the ceremony himself , stated he could not fail to yield to the very natural desire of the W . M . ' s father , and took the opportunity to congratulate both father and son on so auspicious an occasion , the more memorable as , by a coincidence , it happened to be the W . M . 's birthday . "Hearty good wishes" were expressed by a large number of visiting brethren , and the lodge was closed . A banquet was subsequently partaken of in the lodge

" The Installing Master congratulated the members of the lodge on their premises and general arrangements . Several visiting brethren returned thanks for the toast of

" The Tyler ' s toast brougTit to a close one of the most successful meetings ever held by the lodge . Bros . Page , Rev . T . Russell , and Elliot rendered splendid entertainment with songs , Bro . Col . A . Adams gave two admirable recitations , and Bro . Blaxland , solos on the
clarionet ; while Bro . Ruck , the Organist , accompanied throughout in his well-known able manner . The arrangements from first to last were admirable , and reflected the highest credit on the energetic and indefatig'ablc Secretary , Bro . Heaps , to whom the lodge has been for several years under a deep load of obligation , not only forthe purely Masonic part of his duties , but for the constant care and attention bestowed on the lodge premises .

He hoped the lodge would be well represented at the forthcoming Provincial Grand Lodge at Dunmow , on the 6 th August , and advised those who intended to go to makean early application for tickets . He hoped the lodge would go on
and prosper , and that the good feeling which ought to exist among- Masons would always exist in it . Bro . Lewis regretted the absence of Bro . Lord Brooke , and also that their esteemed Bro . Railing , P . G . Sec , could not attend , but hoped to see them well at Dunmow . The Immediate Past Master then proposed the toast of "TheW . M . '' He said they were all perfectly well aware
of their W . M . ' s ability to conduct the business of the lodge , he being a P . M . of a lodg-e of great eminence in the City of London . His geniality and g ood feeling they had all appreciated , and if they differed about minor points he felt sure there was no ill-feeling ' , and he was also sure that Bro . Smith would employ his great talents to the welfare and prosperity of the lodge .
The Worshipful Master thanked the I . P . M . and brethren for the toast , and assured them that he should endeavour to carry out the duties of his office to the best of his abilities , so that at the end of his year of office they may say that he had done his work with credit to himself and honour to the lodge . The next toast was that of "The Installing Officer , " and
in putting it , the W . M . complimented Bro . Westfield upon the perfect manner in which he had performed the ceremony . He also presented Bro . Westfield with a handsome Past Master ' s jewel ( manufactured by Bro . George Kenning ) for services rendered , and to mark the esteem of the brethren , for both of which ( the toast and the jewel ) Bro . Westfield suitably returned thanks .

I he installation banquet and picnic took place on the 24 th ult ., when about 30 members and friends went by train to Clapham , which was reached soon after 11 o ' clock . The house of Bro . Henry Coates—the Flying Horse Shoe -was made the head-quarters of the party , and after a short stay here the brethren and a number of lady friends were conveyed into the village of Clapham . The cave was , of
course , visited , and several of the party entered , but the majority contented themselves with strolling through the beautiful grounds , now rich with foliag - e . The weather up to 2 o ' clock was favourable for out-door exercises , but at that time threatening clouds began to gather , and a move bade to the Flying Horse Shoe was accelerated . A most sumptuous banquet , well served , was provided for
the entertainment of the brethren and their friends , who vigorously displayed their thorough appreciation of thc good things set down for their refreshment . The W . M . ( Bro . R . Mortimer ) presided , and the meal over , the loyal toasts usual on such occasions were duly honoured . The Master and his officers were also toasted , and in the intervals
several of the brethren contributed to the entertainment by their vocal efforts . 'The excursion and its accompaniments were thoroughly enjoyed by all present , and before the party broke up the host and hostess were warmly thanked for the excellent provision they had made and for their courtesy in providing for the comfort of their guests .
WOOLWICH . Nelson Lodge ( No . 700 ) . —There was a grand gathering , on Wednesday , the 17 th ult ., of the members and friends of this lodge , at the Freemasons' Temple , Mount Pleasant , to witness tbe installation of Bro .
