Bro . J ames I horburn Caskett was passed to the second Degree by the VV . M ., the S . W . explaining the working tools and delivering the charge . The I . P . M . gave the lecture on the tracing board , each and every officer discharging the duties of their respective offices most admirably , which called forth high commendations from Bro . Charles James Banister , P . G . S . B . of England . " Hearty good wishes " for the prosperity of the lodges

were expressed by all the visitors . The Hotspur is one of the best regulated and well worked lodges in the province , which is greatly due to the admirable zeal and enthusiasm of Bro . Seymour Bell , P . M ., D . of C . The W . M . and officers arrange to visit other lodges in the city and district , and to receive visits also in return , which is highly appreciated and cements good-fellowship , carrying out the true principles of our Order . The lodge was closed in due form .

At refreshment there was a good muster , under the presidency of the W . M . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly g iven and responded to . Bro . C J . Banister responded to the toast of " The Grand Officers , " recommending the W . M . and P . M . 's to attend Grand Lodge as often as they could , and with other remarks on the working of the lodge proposed "Tbe Health of the

W . M ., and Prosperity to the Hotspur Lodge , " which was admirably responded to , the VV . M . thanking Bro . Banister for his very kind remarks , and proposing " The Health of the I . P . M ., " which was received with acclamation . "The Health of the Visitors" and other toasts brought a most enjoyable evening to its close , which was enlivened by some excellent songs from several of the brethren . " Happy to meet , sorry to part , and happy to meet again . "

CROOK . —Crook Lodge ( No . 2019 ) . —A meeting of this lodge was held in the Masonic Hall , Queen-street , on the 24 th ult ., for the purpose of installing as W . M . Bro . Thomas Hardy , S . W ., who at the last regular lodge had been unanimously appointed W . M . elect . The lodge was presided over by the Mayor of Durham ( Bro . S . Holdsworth . P . M . ) , who was supported by Bro . VV . Love , W . M .

The installation ceremony was performed in a very efficient and impressive manner by the W . M ., Bro . Love ; after which Bro . Hardy proceeded to invest the officers for the ensuing year . After the ceremony the brethren adjourned to the Mechanics' Hall , where a splendid banquet was provided in celebration of the annual festival of St . John the Evangelist . After the loyal and Masonic toasts had

been given , Bro . Thomas Hardy , W . M ., in an appropriate speech , alluded to the many great services rendered by Bro . Love in connection with the founding of the Crook Lodge , and in the name of the brethren presented him with a beautiful P . M . jewel , which was suitably acknowledged by Bro . Love . The harmonious parts were rendered by Bros . Raine , Talbot , Emerson , and Milburn .

TEMPERANCE LODGIS ( No . 160 ) . —A meeting of this lodge was held on Friday evening ; , the 26 th nit ., at the * Duke of York Tavern , ISvelvn-street , Deptford , when there were present Bros . G . ; Milbourn , Preceptor ; Vellenoweth , Sec . ; ISdwards , and Akehurst . The lodge was opened in due form , and thc minutes of the last meeting were read and conlirmed . Thc ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Akehnrst candidate . Bro . Edwards was examined and entrusted . The lidge was opened in the Second Degree and

the ceremony of passing rehearsed , Bro . Edwards candidate . The lodge was opened and closed in the Third Degree . The ist Section of the Second Lecture was worked hy Bro . Belchamber . The lodge was closed in the Second Degree . " The W . M . rose for the lirst time , and dues were collected . On the third rising , it was proposed , seconded , and carried unanimously , that a hearty vote of thanks , to be recorded on the minutes , " be tendered to Bro . J . Block for the very able manner in which he had presided for the first time in this lodge . Bro . Block having responded in a few well chosen words , the lodge was closed .

Ihe lodge was opened in due form , and the minutes of the last meeting were read and conlirmed . The lodge was opened in thc Second and Third Degrees , and resumed in the Second . The ceremony of installation was rehearsed hy Uro . J . D . Smith , of the Skelmersdale Lodge , as he WAS to instal his successor , Bro . J . Hill , on the following Thursday ( 25 th ult . ) Bro . VV . H . Boys was D . C , and Uro . R . Rowlands was the Installed Master . Tlie whole was worked most creditably . Masonic business being ended , the lodge was closed .

STABILITY LODGE ( No . 217 ) . —Thc usual weekly meeting of this lodge of instruction was held at the Masons' Hall Tavern , Masons ' -avenue , Coleman-street , IS . and thc ceremony of raising worked by Bro . Green . Lodge was then closed to the Second and First Degrees , and the ceremony of initiation worked by Bro . Stampfer . The minutes of the last meeting were then " read and conlirmed . It was then proposed , seconded , and carried unanimously , that a vote of thanks be recorded on the minjtes to Bro . Anderson for the assistance he had rendered the lodge during the session , for whicli Bro . Anderson duly thanked the brethren . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to supper , at which Bro . Scriven presided .

The usual loyal and Masonic toasts having been duly given and honoured , Bro . Scriven proposed " The Stability Lodge of Instruction , " which was responded to by Bro . Anderson , who said that they had reason to congratulate * themselves on Ihe result of the session , and that he felt snre that next session they would increase the number of their members . Bro . H . Birdseye then proposed " The Health of Bro . Scriven , " observing that Bro . Scriven had been a very regular attendant at the lodge in years past and had alwavs taken a lively interest in the

Stability working , and that it afforded him and the other brethren great pleasure in his presiding over them that evening . The toast was duly replied to by Bro . Scriven . In introducing the next toast , "The Health of Bro . Henry Muggeridge , " Bro . Scriven said he felt they could not part without drinking liro . Muggeridge's very good health . They all missed him very much , and regretted exceedingly the cause of his absence , but were glad to learn that he was recovering , though slowly , from his late serious illness .

the toast was most heartily and cordially drunk by the brethren . Bro . Scriven then said that as they were favoured that evening with the presence of the Masters of three of the lodges which adhered to the Stability working , many of the members of which were regular attenders of the Stability Lodge of instruction , he proposed as a special toast " Prosperity to those Lodges . " The toast was duly replied to by Bros . S . Stampfer , VV . M ., and A . Sack , P . M ., Henry Muggeridge Lodge ; J . Corbett , W . M . 22 ; and Green , W . M . 715 . In proposing "llie Health of Bro . Henry Birdseye , " Bro .

Scriven alluded to the many years that Bro . Birdseye had been associated with the lodge , and the energy and zeal he had always displayed for its prosperity . Bro . Birdseye duly replied to the toast , which brought a very pleasant and agreeable evening to a close . During the supper , liro . Birdseye sang his noted song , "The Old Chimney Corner , " whicli was followed by some very good songs by Bros . Green and Joy , and a recitation from Uro . Corbett . The next session ot the lodge will commence on the 1 st October next .

PRINCE FREDERICK WILLIAM LODGE ( No . 753 ) . —A meeting was held on Tuesday , the 30 th ult ., at the Eagle Tavern , Clifton-road , Maida-hill . Present : Bros . 1 . Stephens , W . M . ; I . VV . Harvey having been duly presented , the lodge was opened in the Third Degree , and Bro . Harvey was installed into the chair of K . S . according to ancient custom , and having been saluted in the Three Degrees , the three addresses were delivered by Uro . Stephens in a very able and

impressive manner . Proposed by Bro . Stephens , seconded by Bro . Hunt , that the annual dinner of this lodge of instruction be held on the second Tuesday in May—this was carried unanimously . The Preceptor , Bro . liaker , P . M ., will preside 011 that occasion . A cordial vote of thanks was ordered to be entered on the minutes to llro . J . Stephens for the able and efficient manner in whicli he had rehearsed the ceremony of installation for the lirst time in this lodge of instruction . All Masonic business being ended , the lodge was closed .

CLAPTON LODGIS ( No . 136 s ) . —The weekly meeting of the above lodge was held on Friday , the 26 th ult ., at the Lord Stanley , Sandringhaimroad , Hackney , when there was a good attendance of the brethren , and the Fifteen Sections were worked in a most admirable manner by Bro . Smith be presented by the lodge of instruction with his M . M . ' s apron , on ihe occasion of his being raised to thc Third Degree , as a mark of appreciation of his courtesy and attention to the brethren . After " Hearty good wishes , " the lodge was closed .

Charles James Banister , P . G . S . B . of England . " Hearty good wishes " for the prosperity of the lodges

were expressed by all the visitors . The Hotspur is one of the best regulated and well worked lodges in the province , which is greatly due to the admirable zeal and enthusiasm of Bro . Seymour Bell , P . M ., D . of C . The W . M . and officers arrange to visit other lodges in the city and district , and to receive visits also in return , which is highly appreciated and cements good-fellowship , carrying out the true principles of our Order . The lodge was closed in due form .

At refreshment there was a good muster , under the presidency of the W . M . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly g iven and responded to . Bro . C J . Banister responded to the toast of " The Grand Officers , " recommending the W . M . and P . M . 's to attend Grand Lodge as often as they could , and with other remarks on the working of the lodge proposed "Tbe Health of the

W . M ., and Prosperity to the Hotspur Lodge , " which was admirably responded to , the VV . M . thanking Bro . Banister for his very kind remarks , and proposing " The Health of the I . P . M ., " which was received with acclamation . "The Health of the Visitors" and other toasts brought a most enjoyable evening to its close , which was enlivened by some excellent songs from several of the brethren . " Happy to meet , sorry to part , and happy to meet again . "

CROOK . —Crook Lodge ( No . 2019 ) . —A meeting of this lodge was held in the Masonic Hall , Queen-street , on the 24 th ult ., for the purpose of installing as W . M . Bro . Thomas Hardy , S . W ., who at the last regular lodge had been unanimously appointed W . M . elect . The lodge was presided over by the Mayor of Durham ( Bro . S . Holdsworth . P . M . ) , who was supported by Bro . VV . Love , W . M .

The installation ceremony was performed in a very efficient and impressive manner by the W . M ., Bro . Love ; after which Bro . Hardy proceeded to invest the officers for the ensuing year . After the ceremony the brethren adjourned to the Mechanics' Hall , where a splendid banquet was provided in celebration of the annual festival of St . John the Evangelist . After the loyal and Masonic toasts had

been given , Bro . Thomas Hardy , W . M ., in an appropriate speech , alluded to the many great services rendered by Bro . Love in connection with the founding of the Crook Lodge , and in the name of the brethren presented him with a beautiful P . M . jewel , which was suitably acknowledged by Bro . Love . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts having been duly given and honoured , Bro . Scriven proposed " The Stability Lodge of Instruction , " which was responded to by Bro . Anderson , who said that they had reason to congratulate * themselves on Ihe result of the session , and that he felt snre that next session they would increase the number of their members . Bro . H . Birdseye then proposed " The Health of Bro . Scriven , " observing that Bro . Scriven had been a very regular attendant at the lodge in years past and had alwavs taken a lively interest in the

Stability working , and that it afforded him and the other brethren great pleasure in his presiding over them that evening . The toast was duly replied to by Bro . Scriven . In introducing the next toast , "The Health of Bro . Henry Muggeridge , " Bro . Scriven said he felt they could not part without drinking liro . Muggeridge's very good health . They all missed him very much , and regretted exceedingly the cause of his absence , but were glad to learn that he was recovering , though slowly , from his late serious illness .

the toast was most heartily and cordially drunk by the brethren . Bro . Scriven then said that as they were favoured that evening with the presence of the Masters of three of the lodges which adhered to the Stability working , many of the members of which were regular attenders of the Stability Lodge of instruction , he proposed as a special toast " Prosperity to those Lodges . " The toast was duly replied to by Bros . S . Stampfer , VV . M ., and A . Sack , P . M ., Henry Muggeridge Lodge ; J . Corbett , W . M . 22 ; and Green , W . M . 715 . Scriven alluded to the many years that Bro . Birdseye had been associated with the lodge , and the energy and zeal he had always displayed for its prosperity . Bro . Birdseye duly replied to the toast , which brought a very pleasant and agreeable evening to a close . During the supper , liro . Birdseye sang his noted song , "The Old Chimney Corner , " whicli was followed by some very good songs by Bros . Green and Joy , and a recitation from Uro . Corbett . The next session ot the lodge will commence on the 1 st October next .
