Comp . Pratt , P . Z ., candidate , with whom the companions expressed their sympathy at the illness of his wife . It was agreed that the clauses should be worked at the next convocation , and the com . panions generally who would like to be present are invited to attend Owing to the wish expressed by many companions , it was unanimously resolved that the dav of meeting should he altered when the necessary sanction of ' ihe mother chapter had been obtained . H . Roberts , S . W . and VV . M . elect , was duly installed as VV . M . for the ensuing 12 months . The lodge was opened by Bro . VV . Kipps , VV . M ., P . G . R . of M . Kent , and the minutes of the previous meeting having been confirmed , the ballot was taken for Bros . E . Carpenter , 169 , and D .

Bear , 1155 , and , proving unanimous , the former brother , being in attendance , was advanced by the W . M . in a most efficient manner . Bro . Ralph Gooding , B . A ., M . D ., P . M ., G . J . O . of England , then assumed the chair as Installing Officer , and , in his own eloquent and impressive style , carried out the duties placed In his hands , the concluding addresses being delivered with rare force and feeling . The lodge having been closed , the brethren sat down to a superbly appointed and elegantly served banquet in Bro . Burney s handsome assembly room , and the menu having been discussed satisfactorily , The Worshipful Master gave the toast of "The Queen and Mark Masonry , " " The Right Hon . the Earl of KintoreG . M . and Past M . VV . G . M . ' s , " and * ' Lord Egerton

, , of Tatton , D . G . M ., and the rest of the Grand Olficers , Present and Past . " The VV . M ., in putting the latter toast , referred with pride to the fact of there being present a Grand Officer who was a member of the Borough of Greenwich Lodge . He referred to Bro . Gooding , a good Mason and staunch friend , and with his name he coupled the

toast . Bro . Gooding , in response , thanked them for their loyalty to the G . M ., D . G . M ., and officers of Grand Ludge , for there could be no doubt that they had rendered good suit and service to the cause of Mark Masonry , and whatever they did was done conscientiously and for the best . It afforded him very great pleasure to know that the two brethren who had passed the chair had received substantial

recognition from Grand and Prov . Grand Lodges , and he looked forward for the coming Masters to receive the same recognition for services rendered not only in Prov . Grand Lodge , but in what they were proud to call the " Grand Lodge of England and Wales and the Colonies and Dependencies of the British Crown . " Their lodge had made its mark already , and he felt sure in time it would be second to none in the Province of Kent , and he might say second

to none in the kingdom . He saw no reason why its present lustre should not be handed down , for he felt sure that there present Master , Bro . H . Roberts , would dolus duty well , and that both he and his officers would that day 12 months receive the hearty congratulations of every member , not only for their good work , but for the continued and even increased prestige and prosperity of the Borough of Greenwich Lodge . On behalf of the Grand Officers , he

cordially thanked them for their kind reception of the toast . The next toast was "The R . W . Prov . G . M ., the D . P . G . M ., and the rest of the P . G . Officers , Past and Present , " coupled with the name of Bro . Kipps , who , in the course of an eloquent reply , said the P . G . M ., Bro . Robinson , and his officers were not ornamental , but hard working Masons . The D . P . G . M . was indefatigable in his endeavours for the success of the Order , especially in the

Province of Kent , and none of those who were present at the consecration of that lodge would ever forget the splendid oration Bro . Cummins delivered on that occasion . He felt it to be a great honour to hold office under such excellent Masons , not so much as an honour to himself as to the lodge he represented , and he would say to all aspirants to the purple , " Work hard for it , and and you will gain it . " He concluded by reminding them of the forthcoming

emergency Provincial Grand Lodge meeting at Gravesend during this month , and assured them they would never regret attending it . Bro . Kipps then proposed the toast of "The VV . M ., " and in so doing paid a high eulogium to the merits and abilities of Bro . Roberts . Bro . Roberts , in response , said they had just been told

that he had done a good many things in his time , and he trusted he had done something worthy of their commendation , but thc most difficult thing he had ever done yet was to return thanks eloquently enough to clearly describe his feelings , at least to his own satisfaction , so that he should not , on that occasion , inflict a speech upon them . He should endeavour to carry out the duties with credit to

himself and to the lodge . He had a good set of working officers , and had seen them do their work in other degrees in such a manner as assured him they would do well in that . He promised to make himself efficient , so that at the end of his year of ollice it should not be said that he had either disgraced himself or his position . The Worshipful Mastsr then proceeded to present the

I . P . M . with a very handsome and valuable Past Masters jewel , and in so doing said it was a very proud event for him , for he had known Bro . Kipps both as a Mason and as a friend for many years . They had worked in the Craft and in the Royal Arch together , and now in the Mark they hoped to spend many more happy hours . They all knew what an excellent VV . M . Bro . Kipps had been , and how

kindly he gave his invaluable services at the piano , so that it gave him double pleasure in making the presentation that night . In pinning it upon Bro . Kipps' breast he trusted that brother might be spared for many years to wear it , and that the P . G . M . would be pleased to see it there as a mark of the esteem of the brethren of the Borough of Greenwich Lodge .

Bro . Kipps , in response , thanked them in the first place for their beautiful gift , and next for their hearty good wishes conveyed with it . It was practising Charity in its broadest sense , not because of the value of the jewel , but because it showed that they had winked at his shortcomings . If he had not worked well , and he did not say he had , yet he had done his best ; and they must remember

that he had followed a Master whose working was second to none , and in following Bro . Gooding he felt that he had indeed " stepped in where an angel might fear to tread . " However , he heartily thanked them , and would attend and nrove his devotion to the lodge and the brethren .

The other toasts were "The Initiate" and "The Visitors , " for which Bros . Boncey and Jolly responded ; "The Past Masters , " "The Masonic Charities , " "The Oflicers , " and Tyler's toast . Some capital singing and reciting enlivened the proceedings .

applause , and after thanking them all most cordially proposed " 'Ihe Health of the W . M . " in well merited terms , thanking him for his kindness . The Worshi p ful Master responded in a telling speech , which was received with loud applause . Other toasts were given and responded to , and the brethren thoroughly enjoyed themselves after the work of thc lodge was over .
