The Royal Kent Bodies At New= Castle=On=Tyne.

1 . The Royal Kent Bodies consist of the Royal Kent Preceptory of Knights of the Temple , Ac , and Malta , holding Warrants from 1812 , but working previousl y in at least two other organisations without warrant . 2 . The Royal Kent Chapter Rose Croix of the same antiquity and origin , and who accepted a confirmatory warrant in 1857 .

3 . The Royal Kent Council of the Allied Degrees Time Immemorial . 4 . The Royal Kent Council of tbe Cryptic Degrees Time Immemorial being the oldest working body recorded in England so far as these degrees are concerned .

5 . Ihe Royal Kent Conclave of Kts . of Rome and the Red Cross of Constantine , K . H . S ., K . S . T ., working from 1812 , if not before .

(> . Ihe Royal Kent Tabernacle of Royal Arch Knights Templar Priest Time Immemorial tho only working body in England with regard to those degrees dependent thereon . 7 . The Royal Kent Knights Grand Cross of the Hol y Temple of

Jerusalem Time Immemorial , who , from the earliest records onwards , were tlic governing bodies of the proceeding Orders and even now retain the government of some of them as well as their own absolute independence .

Indeed , during the time Great Priory was in abeyance , they firmly discharged all the duties of Great Priory within their district and , indeed , beyond it , b y warranting an Encampment in the East Indies to work all these degrees .

As soon as Central Authorit y was once more lawfull y re-established they gracefully submitted to that authority with regard to the Temple and Malta degrees , indeed , with regard to the latter , they committed an error by asking for authority to work it in 1 S 6 ' 8 as the clearest evidence exists—witnessed by scores of signatures—that this Degree was worked from 1812 , if not previously .

Again when the Ancient and Accepted Rite 33 ° applied to them as a duly established authorit y they again without demur submitted to this body , so far as the degrees ceded to the A . and A . Rite 33 ° b y the Temple authorities or otherwise worked by the A . and A . Rite arc

concerned , receiving the usual confirmatory warrant up to the 18 ° in 1857 . In a similar manner in 1894 , the Allied , Cryptic , and Rome and Constantino authorities were submitted tob y the Royal Kent organisation , as well as the Royal Order of Scotland , and the new warrants duly obtained .

This consecutive loyal support has naturally shorn this North Country Body of mnch of its former splendour , leaving , however , the Tabernacle of Hol y Wisdom and appending Orders under the old administration , and naturall y the Head of all the Bodies , the Knights Grand Cross of the Temple of Jerusalem preserve their independence absolutely .

As regards the Tabernacle , they exist as a separate body dependent upon the Knights Grand Cross , from 1894 only , the arcana having been originally conferred upon Templars , then upon Kni ghts Grand Cross only , eventually only upon the Grand Masters of that Body until the late Frater H y . Hotham , as Grand Superintendent by and with the advice of tho Grand Council again issued a warrant

( 1894 ) to the Tabernacle bod y to act as a separate organisation for all the degrees not already ceded , except the Grand Cross degree and honour being , of course , especially excepted . The proviso that the election of the High Priest of the Tabernacle must be confirmed by the Grand Council , kept the two bodies in close touch , and annually reasserted the power of tho Grand Council and the dependence of the Tabernacle .
