Imagine the consternation of the distinguished hunting party , when the affrighted animal dashed madly into their very midst , yea , even to the feet of the King , with a mangled figure hanging by one foot to the stirrup , the dress alone enabling them to identify in -the

loathsome mass before them the once magnificent Comte de Warrene , knight of several orders , lord of many castles and domains , and their late hospitable entertainer . Such was the awful end of a man , who blessed by fortune , with every luxury 7 that could make a mortal happy , perished in a manner that was far more painful and horrible than the deaths he had been the direct means of contriving for his numerous victims .
