THE ALBERT HALL MEETING . To the Editor of the " Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , From the remarks that I have seen in your journal and from what I heard the M . W . Grand Master say , I understand that the Jubilee jewel may be worn by every brother who was a subscribing member to his lodge on the 13 th day of June , and that the brethren who attended the
above meeting are to have the additional privilege of having a bar put across the jewel . I feel sure that every brother who attended the meeting must have been highly pleased with what he saw and heard . What has occurred to me is—How are you to know who were the brethren who attended the meeting ? There were no names and addresses taken , or names and addresses written upon the backs of the tickets , a g reat many of which were taken by certain lodges and transferred to members of other lodges , so that it would seem , at Dresent . almr . st
impossible to say , who were there and who were not . If you consider this subject worthy of consideration , perhaps you will kindly let this note appear in your next , in order that someone may suggest a mode by which the list of those attending may be collected . —Yours faithfully , June 27 . THE RECENT BOYS SCHOOL FESTIVAL RETURNS . To the Editor of the " Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , My attention has just been called to your publication of the iSth ult ., and to your Analysis of the Returns collected by the various Stewards at the recent Festival of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys . With reference to n . y list of £ 138 , in comparison with that of Bro . Binckes for the Grand Stewards' Lodge £ 132 ios ., you say that it should be remarked , as Bro . Binckes was careful to point out in announcing the result .
that my list included donations of £ 52 ios . from the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths . 26 5 s . from the Worshipful Company of Plumbers . 26 5 s . from the Worshipful Company of Vintners . The donation I obtained from the Goldsmiths' Company , was £ 50 not £ 52 ios . From the Vintners' Company , £ 5 5 s . not £ 26 5 s . From the Plumbers' Company , nothing . 1 did not make an application to such company .

737 ! CARPENTERS' ARMS . My old friend Bro . Krackstone Baker ( 7315 ) has probably misunderstood Bro . John Lane's note , but 1 am not sorry , inasmuch as the information he gives , though well enough understood in certain circles , is not very widely known . So far as Bro . Lane and myself are concerned , the strict heraldic right of the Carpenters are not in question ; and 1 HrY ? nnt rrnrtprcfanrl Rrn . I . gnn tn imnli , * Ur . t rlia TI < K > O HW i llCLV lll \ i \

We are aware that a public-house was known by different people at a certain period both as the " Carpenters' Arms " and the " Three Compasses ; " whether the sign was originally painted with strict correctness , or whether the Engraved Lists did not properly copy the sign , is immaterial for our purpose . In
all probability the sign was heraldically correct when first painted , and the innwasthen known oulyas the Carpenters ' Arms . Afterwards , when the silver field had turned black under the influence of a city atmosphere , and the sable chevron become indistinct from similarity of colour , the "Three Compasses" would be a natural designation for those who were unacquainted with its earlier name . As
Bro . Brackstone Baker states , the Three Compasses without the engraved chevron do not represent the arms of the Carpenters' Company . J . RAMSDEN RILEY . 738 ] MASONIC EXHIBITIONS .
Will you allow me to point out that copies of the Catalogue of the Plymouth " Masonic Exhibition " for Devon and Cornwall , edited by me , in which fully 1000 articles are described , may be had from Bro . Thomas Goodall , 9 , Headlands Park , Plymouth , for 14 penny stamps , post free . Bro . Alfred Greenham has a few copies left of the Shanklin "Masonic Exhibition , " in which some 1500 articles are described , and will send conies , post free , for
21 penny stamps , instead of 2 S . gd . as before . These bind well together , and are in many respects quite different , making capital souvenirs of these Exhibitions . W . J . HUGHAN ,
One of the most interesting and curious mementos of the Jubilee is a Photograph taken by the Stereoscopic Company of the clergy who officiated at the Abbey service . The group includes the Archbishops of Canterbury and York , the Bishop of London , and the Dean and Canons of Westminster , who are all arrayed in the gorgeous vestments they wore on the occasion . As it is a most rare event for these dignitaries to be assembled together " in grande teniae . ' Ihe photographs may be considered quite unique , and not likely to be paralleled in this generation .
