W . 377 . After the cloth had been removed the usual loyal toasts were duly honoured . The Chairman proposed "The Health of Bro . Tayler , " and Bro . Naylor made the presentation . He spoke of the valued and arduous

services of Bro . Taylor in the formation of this Club , and said how warmly he lived in the hearts of not only the Masonic brethren but also in those of every . member of the Club . The brilliants were Brazilian diamonds of the first water , and were very handsome , and the address which accompanied them was in the form of a book bound in morocco

leather , and had been most tastefully illuminated by Bro . Mackay , S . 377 . The inscription was as follows : " Kidderminster Masonic Hall and Club Company , Limited . To Mr . George Taylor . The members and shareholders of the Kidderminster Masonic Hall and Club Company , Limited , desire Mr . George Taylor ' s acceptance of a set of diamond studs in token of their kindly regard

NAYLOR also stated that as there was a balance in

hand after all expenses had been paid , it was intended to make a present to Mrs . Taylor . Mr . TAYLOR responded , and cordially thanked the brethren for their very handsome present ; he specially desired to thank Bro . Mackay for the immense trouble he had taken in the production of that beautiful illumination . In the course of his remarks , Bro . Taylor suggested the

formation of a Masonic and reference library in connection with the Club The CHAIRMAN gave "Thc Health of the Mayor , " who in reply proposed " Success to thc Kidderminster Masonic Hall and Club Company , " which was responded to by Bro .

VV . C . Green , a Director of the Club and P . G . S ., and after "The Healths of Bros . Mackay and Blagbrough " had been drunk , the proceedings terminated . The evening was a most pleasant one , and was much enlivened by the beautiful singing of Bio . Blagbrough , the accomplished tenor from Leeds .

PRESENTATION TO BRO FRANK GREEN , C . C .

Bro . VV . S . Gover , C . C , presided at a dinner of the Vintry Ward Club , held at the Star and Garter , Richmond , on Saturday , the 'Sth ult . In proposing "The Vintry Ward Club , " the CHAIRMAN remarked that the institutions of local , self-government

were of no avail without public spirit . There was one present who by founding the club had supplied what was wanted in thc Ward of Vintry , and who had afforded them opportunities of social intercourse , and of becoming better known one to another . On thc part of the club he had to present Mr . Frank Green —( applause)—and a more spontaneous testimonial was never offered—with a chronometer ,

and to tender to Mrs . Green , with respectful homage , a beautiful brooch and earrings , trusting that both recipients might long live to enjoy the love and honour of the inhabitants of the Ward and of the citizens generally . ( Cheers . ) Bro . GREEN , in reply , said he was in a position of difficulty in having to acknowledge so handsome a gift , accompanied as it was by such flattering remarks ; but he

was deeply sensible of their kindness , and sincerely grateful for the same . He was conscious that to their generous impulses rather than to his own merits the gift was due , and he accepted it as indicating that thc man who strove to do his duty would enlist thc sympathetic support of his

friends and neighbours . I he watch would act as an incentive to him to keep a vigilant watch over the interests of the Ward , and he should do all in his power to serve them . For thc handsome present to his wife he also thanked them , and he could assure thc club that she would treasure it wilh pleasure and with pride . ( Applause . )

closed , and the brethren adjourned to banquet , presided over by the VV . M . After the cloth had been removed , the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured . The principal event of the evening was the presentation of a handsome silver salver to Bro . James Garnar , I . P . M ., as a mark of the esteem and regard in which he is held by the members of

the lodge . The VV . M ., in proposing "The Health of Bro . Garnar , " made thc presentation in the following terms : Brethren , I am now called upon to perform a very pleasing duty , viz ., to present to our Bro . Garnar a memento of the esteem with which he is regarded in this lodge . Most of us have a lively remembrance of his year of office as our W . M ., the commencement of which was undoubtedly the

beginning of our unusual prosperity . It has continued until now , and 1 hope will long remain with us . This testimonial is the outcome of that esteem , and speaks for itself much more eloquently than I can by words . The inscription states that thc testimonial is " presented to Bro . James Garnar , as a slight token of the esteem and admiration in which he is held by the brethren of the

Rose of-Denmark Lodge , and I can assure you , Bro . Garnar , that these words are not the mere production of the engraver , but the genuine expression of regard on the part of the brethren , and may you continue among us for many years to come , in the same good fellowship as in the years that are past , which good fellowship this testimonial is intended to commemorate . In presenting this salver to

you in the name of the lodge , allow me to state it is sterling silver , presented fosterling worth . Bro . Garnar , who was warmly received by the brethren , said : VV . Master and brethren . 1 can scarcely find words to respond to the toast of my health , which has been so kindly proposed by you , and to which the brethren have so cordially responded , and the difficulty is further increased by the very handsome

testimony of your esteem and regard which has just been presented to me . It has always been to me a great source of pride and pleasure to do all that I possibly could to further the interests of the Rose of Denmark Lodge , and if my year of office has been a success , it is owing , not so much to my own exertions and capabilities , as to the kindly and fraternal support which I have received from the

Past Masters , Oflicers , and memhers ol the lodge . Believe me most assuredly that I shall ever value this beautiful testimonial as a record of the very pleasant year I spent as W .. VI . of my mother lodge , and 1 hope that my connection with the Rose of Denmark Lodge , in which I have formed

LIVERPOOL . —Downshire Lodge ( No . 594 ) . —The members of this celebrated lodge met as early as eight o'clock on the morning of Thursday , the 23 rd ult ., for the purpose of installing their VV . M . for the ensuing year . It has for some time past been the custom in this old and flourishing lodge to instal early in the mornin- *** - , and afterwards to join the lady friends of the members in

some pleasant excursion , in place of thc orthodox banquet . Notwithstanding the hour , there was a strong gathering of P . G . [ Officers and P . M . 's , members , and visitors . The out-going VV . M ., Bro . Adolph Pedersen , was in thc chair . After an initiation , the VV . M . elect , Bro . William H . Veevers , was presented by Bros . Peter M . Larsen , P . M ., and Thomas Dilcock , P . Black , S . W . and W . M . elect , was placed in the chair as VV . M . for the ensuing twelve months , or until a successor shall have been duly installed in his stead . The lodge wasopened by Bro . long to wear it in the lodge as one of its Past Masters , and that it would bring back to his mind year after year happy recollections of the esteem and goodwill of the brethren . Bro . Sweny , in reply , said he certainly looked upon that evening as the proudest of his life . When he looked back to that day twelvemonth , when he was placed in the chair , and remembered what he had then promised , he felt that

he had nothing to regret , but that he had faithfully , and to the best of his ability , done his duty to and by the lodge . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren sat down to a recherche banquet , provided in the hall b y Bro . Moulder . "Thc Oueen and the Craft" having been honoured , the Chairman gave the toast of " H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , Grand Master of England , " and , in doing so , said the

services of their Royal brother lo the cause of Masonry , and not only to Masonry but to everything that tended to thc good of the nation at large , made him honoured by all . He trusted the G . A . O . T . U . would long spare him to rule over them as their Grand Master . " The Health of Lord Carnarvon and Lord Lathom , and the rest of the Grand Officers , " followed , and was heartily responded to . The I . P . M .

then , in glowing terms , proposed " The Health of thc VV . M . " He said that although it was not the first time he had had that gavel in his hand , yet he believed he had never made a better use of it than he had that ni ght , in calling their attention to the toast he now proposed to offer them , and one that he felt sure they would receive with acclamation , lt was " The Health and Prosperity of their W . M . "

They had , a month ago , elected Bro . Black , and he had that day installed him as one of Ihe rulers of the Craft in that lodge , nnd he felt that he was only re-echoing their sentiments when he said that in h * s hands the interests and prestige of the lodge would not suffer , but would even increase in prosperity and brightness . The toast was drank

wilh cheers ; and , in response , Bro . Black thanked them most sincerely for thc toast , and trusted that their hearty wishes for a prosperous year of office would be fulfilled , and they might depend upon it it would be if it laid in nis power to bring it about . There was one thing he could promise them , and that was that it should not be any fault
