The agenda of business to be transacted at the next Quarterly Communication of Grand Lodge will be found in another column . It is a somewhat formidable one , and includes the election of members of both the Board of General Purposes and the Colonial Board , the number of candidates for the former being no less than 24 , of whom 13 are present Worshipful Masters .
This evidence of increasing interest in the government of the Craft is , to our mind , a sign of vitality which we should be sorry to see absent , and the desire to be in what may be called the Masonic Cabinet is a worth y and legitimate ambition on the part of those who . feel that their Masonic experience and judgment will assist in the good government and welfare of the Craft .
We are very pleased to note that the Board of General Purposes has recommended the Grand Lodge to accept Bro . John Lane ' s most generous offer of the copyright of his second edition of his invaluable '' Masonic Records , " which will embrace full particulars of all the
lodges of English origin from 1717 to 18 93 , under any Grand Lodge , whether at home or abroad . We feel assured that the members of the Grand Lodge will gratefully confirm the recommendation of the Board and thus secure the publication of this great work , the
gift of the zealous author , and that the English Craft in due time will rapidly absorb the 500 copies to be published , whereby much important information will be made known and a substantial balance left for benevolent purposes . * * »
The business to be brought before the Grand Mark Lodge , on Tuesday , presents no unusual features , except a recommendation from the General Board" That a hearty and cordial vote of thanks be accorded to R . W . Bro . Robert Berridge , P . G . W ., P . G . D . C , for his eminent services during the last 17 years . " The familiar figure of the Grand Director of Ceremonies will be regretfully parted with in that capacity .
* * Unlike the Craft , the number of brethren nominated for the General Board agrees with the number to be elected , so no contest will take place . The installation of Grand Master , and the appointment and investiture of officers will be the most important part of the business .
. The Whytehead family show up strongly for Freemasonry at this time . Bro . Whytehead , ot York , is , of course , a well-known brother the world over . Two of his brothers ( W . W . Whytehead , of London , and H . E . Whytehead , of Stoke-on-Trent ) are both
Freemasons . His two eldest sons were initiated at the earliest possible time in the Albert Victor Lodge at York , and arc now cruising round the world , and as a last item his youngest brother ( G . Y . Whytehead ) was initiated last week in the Albert Victor Lodge . This is almost a record in one generation . * * *
We very heartily congratulate Bro . J . Morrison McLeod , first W . Master , and his brother founders of the Barnet Lodge , No . 2509 , on the success of their opening meeting . The lodge , as we announced would be the case last week , was consecrated in the Assembl y Hall , New Barnet , on Monday , the 2 Sth ult ., the
ceremony , as well as that of installing Bro . McLeod in the chair , being performed by the Grand Secretary in his usuully able and impressive manner . In this duty he was assisted by Bro . George Everett , Past G . Treas . as S . W . ; Bro . James Terry , P . G . S . B ., as J . W . ; Bro . ' the Rev . J . S . Brownrigg , P . G . Chap ., as Chaplain ;

All the arrangements were perfectly made and ably carried out , and the large company of visitors who attended—and for whose accommodation , be it remarked , the Great Northern Railway Company kindly provided special
saloon carriages—were as loud in their praises of the manner in which the duties of the day were performed as they were cordinl in their welcome of the new lodge . We trust the Barnet Lodge , which has started under such favourable auspices , will have before it a long and prosperous future .

THE COMING FESTIVAL OF THE BOYS ' SCHOOL . To the Editor of the "Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , As a Charit y Representative of a lodge in the
Province of East Lancashire , I have read with interest the very straightforward appeal made b y Bro . McLeod for assistance at the forthcoming Festival of the Boys ' School next month ; and I was present and heard his remarks at the Provincial Grand Lodge , held at Rochdale , on the 24 th inst .
It must have struck those present what was said about the fewness of Stewards , so far , who had given their names in as consenting to act , viz ., tvio only from this province . I think the keynote was struck b y Bro . McLeod when he pointed out the desirability of assisting the Provincial Grand Master of our sister province ( West Yorkshire ) on the present occasion .
Great interest has been taken in East Lancashire , as in West Yorkshire , in our local institutions . Still , there is plenty of room in a large province like this to extend our Charity fittingly to each of the London Institutions annually . There is no doubt they have a great claim upon us , and the increasing number of applicants require that substantial aid should be
forthcoming . To readers of this letter I would ask them—have they ever made themselves a Life Governor of this Institution ? if not , now is the time to do so , it will be ; £ io ios . well spent , and give them a voting qualification which , perhaps , has not before occurred to them . It is evident , upon the face of things , if continued
support is not given , congestion in its worst form will be the result . It is an opinion I hold with many other brethren who have given some attention to this subject , that something more practical in shape could be adopted than we have at present , to prevent so many claims coming annually before the Election Committees of each of the London Institutions as to stem the continued
disappointment which is annually felt by those who are unsuccessful . This , of course , is another question , and one which , if ever ventilated , may be of service to the Craft in general . VVhat has to be done at present is , to endeavour to keep up our time-honoured reputation , by doing all in our power to assist at the Boys' Festival , 1894 . And it is with this sincere hope I address these lines to my brethren in the province of East Lancashire . —Yours fraternally , GEORGE BOARD , P . M ., P . P . G . D . A RELIC OF ANTI-MASONIC II . MK . S . —The stories of Morgan times are often related by the older members of Ancient Craft Masonry to the younger Irothers , and serve to keep alive the events of those stirring times when the hands of all seemed raised to strike a death blow to the institution . Those were , no doubt , thrilling times for Master Masons . A relic of those days is owned by W . II . Clutterbuck , of the Seymour House , in OgiLnsburg , N . V .
It is a sheep-skin pouch , in which the charter of Ogdensburg Lodge was carried in those tempestuous days by Mr . Ceroid , of Prescott . The pouch was strapped around his body , and if it had been discovered bis life wou'd , no doubt , have paid the penalty . Of 502 Masonic lodges in the State at that lime , 430 surrendered their charters . Asa Ceroid , son of the tried and true Mason who carried the pouch , presented it to Mr . Clutterbuck . —American Excfunec ,
