He was , however , ably supported by Comp . Meierhoff , ist A . S ., who had that evening kindly undertaken the duties ot P . S . during the exaltation ceremony . He should take care that the reputation of the chapter for good working did not suffer . Comps . Meierhoff , ist A . S ., and C . Woods , 2 nd A . S ., also responded .
The M . E . Z . then gave the toast of "The Past First Principals . " He said that they were such splendid examples that he should try all in his power to imitate them . Comp . Cowley , P . F .
Hilton , P . Z ., as Preceptor of the Star Chapter of Instruction , had shown his special powers . It had only been m existence eight or nine months , and during that time its membership had reached 50 . The average attendance , too , was very satisfactory . In reply , Comp . fully appreciated the kind remarks that had been made , and could assure them that the Star Chapter was very dear to him , Comp . Hilton , P . Z ., expressed his gratification at the kind words that had been said concerning him . He considered the Royal Arch ritual to be most impressive . _ It must appeal to the feelings of all those who witnessed its

missed a meeting of the chapter since his exaltation . He had ever noticed the good feeling and harmony that had prevailed among them . He commended those who were young in the Order to emulate the noble example that had been set them , and to take care that their officers were always efficient workers and zealous companions . The M . E . Z . then gave the toast of " Comp . Bumstead ,
P . Z ., " saying that everyone present must ever think of him with kindness and gratitude—kindness , because of his genial , hearty manner ; and gratitude for the pains he had taken to disseminate Masonic knowledge . Comp . Bumstead , P . Z ., said that , although taken by surprise , he was deeply sensible of the great honour that had been conferred upon him , not only by the M . E . Z . in
proposing the toast , but also by the companions for the very kind and cordial way in which it had been received . He had gladly given his services to spread Masonic light , and trusted that their beautiful ritual would always be correctly rendered . The Janitor ' s toast brought a very happy evening to a
conclusion . A very pleasing feature was the splendid selection of vocal music , so ably executed ( under the direction of Bro . R . De Lacy , Vicar Choral of St . Paul's Cathedral ) , by Mesdames A . H . Watkins and Lansdell Sims , and Bros . A . Kenningham and De Lacy . Comp , Bumstead also gave a capital recitation .
