United Grand Lodge Of England.
The Board of General Purposes regret to report that Bro . A . Pendlebury , Assistant Grand Secretary , and Chief Clerk in Grand Secretary's Office , has been compelled by the very serious state of his health , to tender his resignation of the latter office , after a service of upwards of 30 years . The Board , taking into account the long and faithful services of Bro . Pendlebury , unanimously recommend to Grand Lodge that he be granted on retirement a pension of ^ 400 per annum .
The Board have further to report that , on the recommendation of the Grand Secretary , they have approved the appointment to the office of Chief Clerk , about to be vacated by Bro . Pendlebury , Bro . William Lake , P . M ., Past Provincial Grand Registrar of Cornwall , and for the past eig ht years editor of the Freemason newspaper , who in the opinion of the Board possesses special qualifications for the office .
The Board recommend that the salary of Bro . W . Lake on appointment be £ 400 per annum , increising by yearly increments of . £ 20 to £ < flO per annum . The Board beg to submit to Grand Lodge the following modifications in the Book of Constitutions , which they recommend for adoption : That Rule 83 , Book of Constitutions , be altered to read as follows :
"A Provincial Grand Master must have served for the full period of five years , and a District Grand Master for the full period of three years , from the date of his installation , to entitle him to Past rank . " That the following words be inserted in Rule 87 , after the fifth line from the top of page 46 :
"A District Grand Master , if a Prince of the Blood Royal , may appoint a Pro District Grand Master , to rank immediately before the Deputy District Grand Master . " That in Rule 262 the words 5 o ' clock be substituted for 4 o ' clock . The Board have to report that the following presentations have been made to the Library and Museum since the last meeting of Grand Lodge , all of which have been accepted with thanks .

A report of a special meeting of the Governors and Subscribers of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution for Aged Freemisons and Widows of Freemasons , dated 15 th November , 1894 , will be laid before Grand Lodge , in which the following proposed addition to Rule 23 , then agreed to , is submitted for approval .
A Lodge , Chapter , or Masonic Society , or any office therein , subscribing 100 guineas in one sum or in sums of not less than five guineas each , shall during its existence be entitled to 30 votes for Annuitants on the particular Fund to which the donation is paid , and the Master , or first Principal , or other officer of such lodge or chapter , for the time being , shall be a Vice- Patron of the I nsti t ution in right of such payment , and for every additional sum of five guineas thereafter
subscribed , to four votes at each election . A Lodge , Chapter , or Masonic Society , or any office therein , subscribing 200 guineas in one sum , or in sums of not less than five guineas each , shall during its existence be entitled to 90 votes for Annuitants on the particular Fund to which the donation is paid , and the Master , or First Principal , or other officer of such Lodge or Chapter , for the time being , shall be a Patron of the Institution in right of such payment , and for every
additional sum of five guineas thereafter subscribed , to six votes at each election . 10 . APPEAL BV BRO . B . O . The half-yearly meeting of this Provincial Grand Lodge was held in the Salford Town Hall on the 23 rd ult . There w is a very large attendance of brethren of the province , more , in fact , than could be accommodated with seats . Bro . Colonel Le Gendre N . Starkie , Prov . G . Several notices of motion were given for consideration at the next mee'ing . An invitation to hold the next annual meeting at Denton was presented ,
at which place Provincial Grand Lodge has n-1 been held for 30 years . The PROVINCIAL GRAND MASTER said he had other invitations , but all would receive due consideration . Provincial Grand Lodge was then closed .

PROVINCIAL GRAND CHAPTER OF SURREY .
The annual meeting of this Provinci . l Grand Chapter was held at the Constitutional Hall , Chertsey . on Friday , the 23 rd ult ., when there was a good attendance . For several xearspast ilii meetings lave been held on the same day as the Provincial Grand Lodge , but the Grand Superintendent has determined that in future th : R jyal Arch meetings sha l be held at
various places in the province where it would be impossible to hold the Crau meetings , and thus induce a keener interest to be taken in Arch Masonry . It was originally intended to hold the present meeting at the Masonic Hall , but owing to the recent floods this was found to be impossible , and almost at the nth hour the venue was changed to t > e Constitutional Hall . Th ;
members of the St . George ' s and Abbey Chapters were equal to the occasion , and arrangements were made that conduced to a successful meeting . An interesting item of the proceedings was the presentation of a piece of p late to the Grand Superintendent by the members of the St . George ' s Chapter , over which he presided during its jubilee year .
