Oddy . Bro . the Rev . C . H . Roberts , P . G . Chap . Essex , very kindly and ably officiated as Organist , and accompanied the singing of the National Anthem and the songs follosving the usual loyal and Masonic toasts , Bros . Stephens , Holt , Webster , and Pinder being the principal vocalists . The toast of "The Initiates" svas very enthusiasticall y received by the brethren , as the gentlemen svho on this
occasion svere admitted to the Fraternity arc well-known to and greatly respected by many of the brethren present . In proposing "The Health of Bro . Lesvis , as VV . AI . of the Lodge , " the Immediate Past Master spoke in very eulogistic terms of the great energy svhich Bro . Lewis had shosvn during the number of years he had been a member of the lodge , in performing the duties of the
various offices he had filled , and in representing the lodge as Stesvard at the festivals of the Masonic lnsiitutions for Boys and Girls , and also as honorary Secretary of the summer festival of the lodge during the past three years . The Worshipful Master then presented the handsome Past Master ' s jesvel voted by the lodge to the retiring MasterBro . Teggas a mark of the esteem in svhich he is
, , held by the brethren , and as a token of their appreciation of his endeavours to promote the good of the loc ge and the happiness of the members during his year of office . 'I he toast of " The Visitors " was responded to by Bros , the Rev . C . H . Roberts , H . G . Green , F . Eastwood , and J . H . Thompson . Bro . VV . VV . Morsran in responding * to the toast of " The
Masonic Press and Charities" spoke very highly of the great exertions made by the Secretaries of the Institutions svhich had resulted in securing the largest amount of subscriptions ever yet obtained in any one year for the three Masonic Charities , and observed that the High Cross Lodge compared very favourably svith other lodges in the lists taken up by its Stess-ards .

Murray took occasion to compliment the recipient on the highly satisfactory manner in svhich he had ditcharged his duiies as Master of the ludge during the pre eding year , having maintained its prestige and carefully attended to the efficiency ot its svorking , culminating in the excellent rendering of the ceremony svith svhich he had installed his
successor in the chair . Bro . Lane , in thanking the brethren for the jesyel , stated that no svords of his could adequately express his feelings at the honour svhich had been conferred upun him by the unanimous vote of his brethren ; and , referring to the duties he had been enabled to undertake in representing the lodge as Stesvard at each cf the thiee great Masonic Charities this year , entitling him to svear the charity jesvel , he assured them that he should nevertheless value the jesvel that day placed on his breast more highly than any others he
possessed . Subsequently the brethren and visitors , over 40 in number , partook of an excellent banquet at Bro . Bolt ' s , Royal Hotel . The VV . M . piesided , and after duly honouring the usual loyal and Masonic toasts , the Worshipful Alaster proposed the toast of "The K . W . Prov . G . AL , Viscount Ebrington , and the other Prov . Grand Officers , " coupling theresvith the name of Bro . Murray , P . M ., P . G . D . of C , svho very suitably responded .
" The Health of the Nesvly-Installcd VV . M ., Bro . G . J . Pepprell , " svas next proposed by Bro . T . Perry , P . M ., P . P . G . T ., in a highly eulogistic speech , in svhich he congratulated the lodge in having for its Master another brother in svhom they had the fullest confidence . The Worshipful Master , in acknusvledging the toast , expressed his thanks to the brethren for the honour conferred upon him , and assured them he should endeavour to
fulfil the duties of his high position 10 the best of his ability . The toast of " The Immediate Past Master and Installing Master , Bro . J . Lane , " svas next introduced by Bro . VV . Bradnee , P . AL , svho expressed his confidence that the zeal and efficiency manifested in the discharge of his svoik by the I . P . M . svas the result in no small measure of a constant attention to the Lodge of Instruction . Bro . Lane , in responding , assured the brethren that
success and promotion svere only to be obtained by diligence and perseverance , and that no office in the lodge should be looked upon as of little importance , but on the contrary , its duties , hosvever minor they mi g ^ ht appear , if faithfully performed would prove a qualification for higher distinction in future years . The toast of " The Past Masters of the Jordan Lodge " svas then proposed in a neat speech by Bro . B . Knight ,
S . VV ., and suitably responded to , on behalf of the Past Masters , by Bro . A . T . Blarney , P . M ., svho took occasion to impress on the brethren the desirability ol punctual and regular attendance at the lodge meetings as a means ol acquiring a better knosvledge of the svork and of fitting themselves for any office . " The Health of the Visitors" svas next proposed by Bro . J . Dodge , P . M . and Treas ., svho expressed his
gratification at seeing so many visitors present , and the pleasure of the brethren of the Joidan Lodge at all times to svelcome visitors to their meetings . The toast having been duly honoured svas responded to by Bro . H . P . Jasman , VV . M . 1669 , svho referted to the great pleasure he had experienced in having been present at the installation ceremony that day and passed a high eulogium on the efficiency of the svorking of the Jordan
Lodge . Bro . H . W . Marshall , W . M . 303 , also responded in complimentary terms , as did also Bro . VV . Tavlor , S . W . 328 . Bro . Murray next proposed "Success to the Masonic Charities , " including therein not only the three great charities , for each of svhich Bro . Lane had that year acted as Stesvard , but also the local and very useful Devon Masonic Educational Fund .
In response to this toast Bro . Lane detailed at some length the result of his Stesvardships and of his personal visits not only to festivals , but to the several Institutions at Croydon , Wandsivonh , and Wood Green , during his year of office , and assured the brethren that he svas hilly satisfied and much pleased with those visits , and as he had become a Life Governor of the three noble Charities that year , so he hoped the W . M . or some other
brother svould act as Stesvard during the next year . Bro . Lane also asked the brethren to remember lhat " Charity begins at home ; " and as a practical illustration thereof , at Bio . Murray ' s suggestion , the customary collection svas taken up for the Devon Masonic Educational Fund . The toasts of " The Officers of the Lodge , " " The other Members of the Lodge , " and " I he Initiate , " svith thc Tyler ' s toast , closed the proceedings .

Sillitoe , " and in so doing expressed the pleasure hc and all the companions of the chapter had experienced in svitnessing hosv abl y both ceremunies had been performed that day , and asked the companions to stand to their glasses and drink heartily to the toast . The
invitation svas cheerfully responded to by all present , after svhich , Comp . Sillitoe , in thanking Comp . Hallisvell for his kind remaiks and for the vote of thanks that had been accorded him , said it alsvays gave him great pleasure to come to Bury and render any service to the Unanimity Chapter and to see the same old faces he had been accustomed to see for ihe last five years , and trusted he should be permitted

Murray took occasion to compliment the recipient on the highly satisfactory manner in svhich he had ditcharged his duiies as Master of the ludge during the pre eding year , having maintained its prestige and carefully attended to the efficiency ot its svorking , culminating in the excellent rendering of the ceremony svith svhich he had installed his
successor in the chair . Bro . Lane , in thanking the brethren for the jesyel , stated that no svords of his could adequately express his feelings at the honour svhich had been conferred upun him by the unanimous vote of his brethren ; and , referring to the duties he had been enabled to undertake in representing the lodge as Stesvard at each cf the thiee great Masonic Charities this year , entitling him to svear the charity jesvel , he assured them that he should nevertheless value the jesvel that day placed on his breast more highly than any others he

T ., in a highly eulogistic speech , in svhich he congratulated the lodge in having for its Master another brother in svhom they had the fullest confidence . The Worshipful Master , in acknusvledging the toast , expressed his thanks to the brethren for the honour conferred upon him , and assured them he should endeavour to
fulfil the duties of his high position 10 the best of his ability . The toast of " The Immediate Past Master and Installing Master , Bro . J . Lane , " svas next introduced by Bro . VV . " The Health of the Visitors" svas next proposed by Bro . J . Dodge , P . M . and Treas ., svho expressed his
gratification at seeing so many visitors present , and the pleasure of the brethren of the Joidan Lodge at all times to svelcome visitors to their meetings . M . 1669 , svho referted to the great pleasure he had experienced in having been present at the installation ceremony that day and passed a high eulogium on the efficiency of the svorking of the Jordan

Murray next proposed "Success to the Masonic Charities , " including therein not only the three great charities , for each of svhich Bro . Lane had that year acted as Stesvard , but also the local and very useful Devon Masonic Educational Fund .
In response to this toast Bro . Lane detailed at some length the result of his Stesvardships and of his personal visits not only to festivals , but to the several Institutions at Croydon , Wandsivonh , and Wood Green , during his year of office , and assured the brethren that he svas hilly satisfied and much pleased with those visits , and as he had become a Life Governor of the three noble Charities that year , so he hoped the W . M . or some other
brother svould act as Stesvard during the next year . Bro . Lane also asked the brethren to remember lhat " Charity begins at home ; " and as a practical illustration thereof , at Bio . Murray ' s suggestion , the customary collection svas taken up for the Devon Masonic Educational Fund . Sillitoe , " and in so doing expressed the pleasure hc and all the companions of the chapter had experienced in svitnessing hosv abl y both ceremunies had been performed that day , and asked the companions to stand to their glasses and drink heartily to the toast . invitation svas cheerfully responded to by all present , after svhich , Comp . Sillitoe , in thanking Comp .
