SUMMER FESTIVAL OF THE ALBION LODGE AND CHAPTER , No . 9 .
The ancient and flourishing Albion Lodge , No . 9 , which was one of the p ioneers in the movement to establish " Ladies' Nights " and " Summer Outings , " still maintains its old traditions and sets an example in this and other respects to the rest of the lodges on the roll of Grand Lodge . Following the
precedents of former years a river trip was agreed upon and accordingly took place on the 21 st ult . The arduous work of making the necessary arrangements fell upon the Secretary—as invariably happens—but Bro . L . W . Harvey was fully equal to the occasion , and assisted by the experience of former years and an untiring energy he came through with flying colours .
The company numbering about 30 met at Paddington Station and proceeded by saloon to Reading . During the brief journey the opportunity was taken of congratulating the W . M ., Bro . Sydney H . Meyers , on the amount of his Stewards ' list at the recent Festival of the Boys' School . Bro . Meyers collected ^ 241 10 s ., being the second highest individual list .
At Reading a commodious steam launch , the Marian , was in waiting , and a start was made down the liver . It was an ideal day for the river , brilliant sunshine , with a gentle and cooling breeze . With such weather , genial company , picturesque scenery , and last , but not least , every attention to creature comforts , what more could a pleasure-seeking party possibly desire ? Bro . Gerrish , I . P . M ., constituted himself Ladies' Steward , and was assiduous in his attentions , and with
the genial Bro . Schartau as raconteur and Bro . W . Churcher to the fore with hit inimitable humorous recitations , the time sped pleasantly as Sonning , Shiplake , and Henley were passed . The company landed at Medmenham to inspect the Abbey , and , having re-embarked , the journey was continued to Marlow and Cookham . Lunch had been served it route , and at the latter lock a cup of refreshing tea was served to the ladies . Having had an opportunity of admiring the Cliefden Woods , Maidenhead Bridge was reached at 5 . 30 .
A choice banquet was in readiness at Skindles , and each item of an excellent menu was admirably served under the personal superintendence of the proprietor , Mr . H . Hoare , who was cordially congratulated on his success . After dessert , the toast of "The Queen " was heartily honoured . Bro . GEURISH , I . P . M ., proposed " The Health of the W . M ., Bro . Meyers , and Mrs . Meyers , " and said the W . M . was deservedly popular in the lodge and was held in high esteem . As showing his enthusiasm for Masonry and their
loil f ; e , Bro . Sydney Meyers took up a magnificent sum at the Boys' School Festival , which reflected great credit on himself and their old lodge . That day they had seen their W . M . in another capacity , and the manner in which he had discharged his duties would detract nothing from his popularity . They had had the most enjoyable day possible , and Bro . Sydney Meyers had left no stone unturned to stud y their amusement , and they were exceedingly fortunate in the fact that Mrs . Meyers had materially assisted the W . M . in the pleasures of the trip .
Bro . SYDNEY MEYERS , W . M ., returned sincere thanks on beha'f of himself and Mrs . Meyers . He did not know that he deserved all the praise bestowed by 'be I . P . M ., but it would , at least , show his wife that the time he spent in town at the lod ge of instruction had not been spent in vain . As far as the arrangements 'or the day were concerned , all the praise was due to Bro . Harvey , who had carried ° » t the matter entirely .
Bro . W . DENNIS , S . W ., next proposed " The M . E . Z . of the Albion Chapter , No . 9 , " and referred to the valuable services rendered to Masonry by Bro . W . f- Uring . Bro . W . E . Lyons and Co ., Limited , have succeeded beyond their anticipations in making this the most attractive and comfortable resort of the kind in Europe . A Masonic Temple is included in its many attractions and exceptionally good arrangements are being made for the convenience of lodges .
