Huish and Foskett , in reply , respectively expressed their acknowledgments . They both spoke of the great impression that the ceremony had created in them . The Royal Arch was indeed a beautiful Degree , and they were sorry that they had not entered it earlier . In conclusion , they thanked Comp . G . Davis for his introduction ,

and hoped in due time to discharge satisfactorily any duty that they might be called upon to do . In proposing the toast of " The Past Principals , " the M . E . Z . personally expressed his thanks to Comps . Davis and Cleghorn for their services that day ; the first named bad most impressively acted as First Principal and the latter had performed the Principal Sojourner's work in a manner not to be surpassed . He would also mention the name of Comp . Harfeld , whose geniality and interest in the chapter as its Treasurer was worthy of great praise .

The toast having been responded to by the companions mentioned , the proceedings terminated .

The minutes of the previous convocation having * been read and confirmed , a vote of sympathy was passed to Comp . George Everett , P . Z ., P . G . Treas ., Treasurer , in his illness , and expressing a hope that his health would soon be restored . Comp . Major Walls , P . Z ., gave a notice of motion— " That a sum of money be voted from the funds and placed on the list of Comp . C . H . Kohler , P . Z ., as Steward representing the chapter at the Centenary Festival of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys . " Apologies for non-attendance having been read from Comps . George Everett , P . Z . ; W . P . Webb , P . Z . ; C . Sims , P . Z . ; and others , the chapter was closed . Refreshment followed labour .

The M . E . Z ., in proposing "The Health of the Grand Officers , " regretted that a distinguished member of that body , Comp . George Everett , had been ill for nearly two months . To a man of his active mind , so long an absence from Masonry and other pursuits must necessarily be a source of trouble and vexation . He had been their Treasurer for many years , and it was mainly due to his exertions that the chapter was so prosperous . He ( the speaker ) was glad to know that Comp . Everett ' s illness had taken a favourable turn , and that in the course of a few days he would be amongst his numerous friends again . This toast was warmly received .

The toast of " The M . E . Z . " followed . The proposer of the toast , in the course of his remarks , called the attention of the companions to the fact that the First Principal had travelled many miles that day in order to be present at their meeting , and that he had to return that night . That showed a proper feeling . There was no work , unfortunately , that evenine , but the M . E . Z . had presided both in the chapter and at the banquet most efficiently . He concluded , in the name of the chapter , by wishing Comp . Buxton the compliments of the season and the best wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year .

The M . E . Z . having replied , gave " The Second and Third Principals , " to which Comps . Lundie and Smith replied . "The Health of the Past Principals " followed , coupled with the names of Comps . Lingley and Ayling , who duly acknowledged the compliment . Comp . H . Higgins , P . Z ., made a neat speech in response to the toast of " The S . E . and Officers . " The proceedings then terminated .
