zeal to those in high positions , we must not omit to remind all the Brethren , from the highest to the lowest , that there is yet another and much more important definition of Charity to be regarded ancl acted up to—BROTHERLY LOVE ! There have been too many indications of late that this great principle of
Masonic union has been forgotten , for too much of human passion and contention has very recently been introduced into Masonic proceedings . We would therefore urge , because we have it on the highest authority—that of the Volume of the Sacred Law—that if " all our goods be bestowed to feed the poor , and
our bodies to be burned , and we have not CHARITY ( Brotherly Love ) , Ave are nothing . " We are confident , if Freemasons will bear this , no less than their solemn and responsible O . B . ' s , in mind , that we shall soon cease to hear of painful strife and unAVorthy dispute , Avhich , if it would disgrace popular society ,
must be infinitely more discreditable to those who are bound to make Brotherly Love a fact , ancl not a fiction . We repeat , that Ave have penned these feAV words on Avhat we hold to be a most important subject , in the same spirit in which . Ave fully believe they will be received , and in the earnest hope that our Brethren Avill not only appreciate , but strive earnestly to act upon them .
