INSTALLATION MEETINGS , & c .

CBANBOUENE LODGE , No . 1580 . THIS Locige , which was consecrated in March 187 G , and has , since its establishment , had a most prosperous career , held its annual installation meeting on Tuesday , 27 th May , at the Lodgo quarters , tho Red Lion Hotel , Hatfield . The Lodgo AVOS formally opened and , after tho confirmation of tho minutes of tho previous meeting , the

names of two gentlemen wero submitted for initiation , and both being accepted , they wero formally initiated into tho Order by tho W . M . This part of tho evening's duties being completed , Bro . Henry Cox , tho W . M . elect , Avas presented for the benefit of installation , ancl in due course Avas placed in the chair of tho Lodge by Bro . Edgar Bowyev Prov . G . D . Bro . Cox was regularly proclaimed , and received

tho congratulations of the brethren . His first duty Avas to invest the Oflicers for tho year , which he did as follows : —Bros . Halford P . M . S . W ., Hellier W . M . Carnarvon Lodgo No . 1592 J . W ., Rev . W . H . W . Caseloy Chaplain , G . F . Cook P . M . Treas ., James Terry Prov . J . G . W . Sec . R . M . B . I . Sec , C K . Killick P . M . S . D ., G . Ward Verry P . M . J . D ., Bedell I . G ., Steedman P . M . Tyler . The remaining

portion of the ceremony having been completed in duo form , the Lodge Avas called upon to appoint ono of its members to act on the finance committee of tho Province . The choice fell on the newlyappointed W . M ., who suitabbly acknowledged tho compliment . In accordance with a notice of motion given at tho previous meeting it was next decided to increase the annual subscription to the Lodge

ancl nothing further offering , the proceedings terminated . The brethren afterwards safc down to an excellent banquet served in a most recherche manner , and at its conclusion tho toasts usual on such occasions were heartily given and received . To thafc of tho Deputy Grand Master of England , coupled with the rest of the Grand Officers Past and Present , Bro . Wilson lies , the Secretary of the

Province , responded . Both of the initiates , in response to tho toast proposed in their honour , tendered their thanks to the members for having received thom into the Lodge . Bro . Rndkin specially referred to the pleasure it would afford him , during a journey he was aboufc to take to the Cape , to call to mind tho good feeling thafc existed , and the kindness ho had received since he Avas initiated .

Bro . Cousins , tho other initiate , also referred to tho hearty good feeling that was manifested by tho brethren . Bro . Bausor , the I . P . M ., in suitable terms proposed the health of the W . M ., Avho , in response , acknowledged his obligations to tho brethren for having placed him in his present exalted position . Ho then proposed tho toasfc of tho retiring Master , but before calling on them to drink to

his health , he had the pleasure to invest Bro . Bausor with a P . M . ' s jewel which had be 6 n voted by tho Locige in appreciation of tho set * , vices ho had rendered during the past year . Bro . Bausor in hearty tcim- acknowledged thia compliment , and stated it would ever be his Avish to do all he could tu further tho interests of the GVanbourne Locige . Bro . J . Terry replied to tho toasfc of tho Masonic Charities ,

and had the pleasure to announce that the W . M . of the L : d ^ o had undertaken to act as a Steward at tho next Festival of tho Old People ' s Institution , and further it Avas his intention on thafc occasion to qualify as a Vice-President of that charity . Each of tho Visitors responded to the toasfc proposed on their behalf . In addition to those abovementioned the following Visitors were present—Bros . Wilson lies

THE installation meeting of this flourishing ancl excellent working Lodgo Avas held on 23 rd of May , at the Agricultural Hall , Islington , in tho presence of a numerous gathering of tho brethren and Visitors . Bros . J . Coombs AV . M ., A . F . Rowley S . W ., J . Weston J . W ., J . Greenfield Treasurer , J . Osborn Secretary , Norris S . D ., Poulton J . D ., Field I . G ., R . G . Thomas Organist , Rimell Steward ; P . M . ' s Bros . Sim and Somers . This being a Banner Lodge , the arms

of Sir Hugh Myddelfcon aud fcho various Masters Avho had passed tho chair had their banners ( beautifully executed by Bro . Oppcnhcira ) sussuspended in the room . The Lodgo Avas opened by the VV . M ., and tho minutes of the former Lodge and emergency meetings wore read aud confirmed . The report of tho auditors relating to the funds of Lodgo and Benevolence Avero read and adopted , shewing both to

bo in a flourishing state . Ballots were taken for tho admission of Messrs . Taylor and Larter , which being unanimous in their favour , the former was initiated into the Order by Bro . Somers P . M ., ancl the latter by Bro . Sim P . M ., AVIIO also passed Bro . Duncan to the second degree . Tho working of those brethren ancl of tho Officers deserves especial praise . A board of Installed Masters Avas then

opened , and Bro . A . F . Rowley P . M . 917 was presented , and duly installed into tho chair by Bro . Sim I . P . M ., Avho performed that ceremony to the satisfaction of every Brother and Visitor ; he received tho plaudits of all present on the completion of the work , for his perfect delivery and tlio impressive tuauuor it was rendered , Tho newly-installed W . M . haviug been saluted according to antient

Ifc was stated that this late distinguished Brother had exhibited groat kindness to tho brethren of that and many other Lodges . Tho Lodgo

was then closed until the fourth Tuesday in July . Subsequently , the brethren partook of a sumptuous banquet , provided by Bro . Grist . Tho W . M . then proposed the Queen and tho Craft , Bro . Egberfc Roberts aud Master Payne singing tho solo verses , accompanied by Bro . Thomas . Tho toasfc of onr Masonic Rulers Avas given , aud tho glee , " Allegiance AVO Swear , " was charmingly rendered . Bro .

Coombs said ifc fell to his lot , with a groat deal of pleasure , to propose tho health of the W . M ., who had already passed the chair of another Lodge . Ho was sure ho Avould carry out every duty this Locige required of him . Tho W . M ., in responding , thanked tho brethren for tho cordialifcy with which tho toast had been received , and promised to do his utmost to promote the interests of tho Lodge . He Avas ono of its

founders , and all his energies should bo directed to the furtherance of its Avelfare . Ho then proposed , in felicitous terms , tbo health of the Installing Officer , speaking in tho highest strain of the excellent manner in which tho ceremony had been performed . If brethren Avould follow the example of Bro . Sim , no ono could ever regret ifc , for tho way iu which ho carried out tho ceremony that day , as Avell

as his ability in tho various degrees , musb command the admiration of all Avho witnessed them . Bro . Sim acknowledged tho flattering terms in which tho W . M . had spoken of him ; he said ifc was his great aim to do his utmost to carry out his duties efficiently . If hia services had merited their approbation , he was amply repaid ; ho thanked the W . M . for tho kind expressions in which the toasfc was

couched , and the brethren for tbo manner in which they had received tho mention of his namo . Tho W . M . next proposed the health of the Initiates , whom ho was sure would eventually become a credit to the Order . Bros . Taylor and Larter responded in brief but suitable terms . Then followed tho toast of the Visitors , in giving Avhich tho W . M . said it was a most important ono in a Masonio

gathering . They had amongst them ou this occasion several brethren Avho had rendered valuable assistance to tho Chari . ties , and ho felt very pleased to seo thom . Bro . Kidder P . M ., in thanking tho brethren for drinking the health of tho Visitors , took occasion to remark that thoy must all havo been iufinitelv pleased with tho Avorking of the Lodge . He had never heard

tho duties of Installing Master so wall performed as ho had that evening . Bro . II . M . Levy P . M . 188 followed , with a few appropriate observations . The W . M . then proposed ih : health of the P . M . 's * , in doing Avhich he referred to Bro . Somers-as the first Master of this Lodge , and ono who bad boon the means of introducing many members into it . Thoy had all seen and appreciated Bro . Sim '< j Avorkin " .

To Bro . Coombs they were indebted for many kindnesses . Iu tho name of the Lodge ho had great pleasure in presenting a P . M . ' s joAvel , hoping Bro . Coombs might live long- to wear it as a Past Master amongst them . The toast AV . IS received with tho utmost enthusiasm , and Bro . Coombs , in reply , alluded to the fact that it Avas only fchreo years since tho Lodge was consecrated . If they continued to

progress in the same way as they had dono during that time , tho Lodgo must be a great success . Ho thanked them for their assistance in the past year , and promised to do his best to support the W . M ., who was also ono of the founders of tho Lodge . Ho Avas pleased to say there had nofc been a sound of discord during his year of office , and thoy had contributed fairly to the Masonio institutions . Ho thanked the

brethren for tho bandsomo jewel they had presented him with ; ho should look upon ifc Avith pride as long as he lived . He should be glad to render any assistance to the Lodge , which ho hoped would go on and prosper . Bro . Somers followed , also expressing his deep interest in the welfare of tho Lodge . The W . M ., in giving tho Masonio Charities , said he hoped the Lodge would send a Steward every year

to the several Festivals . Bro . J . Terry , Secretary of the Benevolcnt Institution , responded in an eloquent speech , in which ho urged the newly admitted brethren never to forget how incumbent it was upon them to support the Charities . He hoped tho word charit y would never be effaced from their memories . Alluding to the Boys ' School , he said at tho late Cambridge election nine out of fourteen

candidates took first-class honours , four took second class , and ono third class—so thafc all acquitted themselves well . Out of fifteen girls who went np , eight took first class , six second , and ono an honourable mention . Although tho " old people " could not go in for University honours , thero were many amongst them of unblemished character ancl desen-ing of all respect and esteem . Although fchey had seen

how liberally tho brethren bad subscribed to tho Institutions , which sustained 700 dependents on tho Craft , yofc if they could obtain 5 s from each brother annually they should bo able to do away with all Festivals , and Avould not require elections . Ho thanked tho W . M . for tho opportunity of being present afc his installation for the second time . Tho toasts of the Treasurer , Secretary , and other

Officers of tho Lodge was next given , and Bros . Weston and Osborn responded , the latter intimating his intention of attending as a StOAvard at tho next Anniversary Festival of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . Bro . Greenfield also responded on behalf of tbe OiVieors . Thero Avas an abundance o ? pood singing during tho OA'otiing , capital selections being rendered by Bros . Egbert Roberts ,

M ., in thanking tho brethren for drinking the health of tho Visitors , took occasion to remark that thoy must all havo been iufinitelv pleased with tho Avorking of the Lodge . He had never heard

tho duties of Installing Master so wall performed as ho had that evening . Bro . II . M . Levy P . M . 188 followed , with a few appropriate observations . The W . M . then proposed ih : health of the P . M . 's * , in doing Avhich he referred to Bro . Somers-as the first Master of this Lodge , and ono who bad boon the means of introducing many members into it . Thoy had all seen and appreciated Bro . Sim '< j Avorkin " .

To Bro . Coombs they were indebted for many kindnesses . Iu tho name of the Lodge ho had great pleasure in presenting a P . M . ' s joAvel , hoping Bro . Coombs might live long- to wear it as a Past Master amongst them . The toast AV . IS received with tho utmost enthusiasm , and Bro . Coombs , in reply , alluded to the fact that it Avas only fchreo years since tho Lodge was consecrated . If they continued to

progress in the same way as they had dono during that time , tho Lodgo must be a great success . Ho thanked them for their assistance in the past year , and promised to do his best to support the W . M ., who was also ono of the founders of tho Lodge . Ho Avas pleased to say there had nofc been a sound of discord during his year of office , and thoy had contributed fairly to the Masonio institutions . Ho thanked the

brethren for tho bandsomo jewel they had presented him with ; ho should look upon ifc Avith pride as long as he lived . He should be glad to render any assistance to the Lodge , which ho hoped would go on and prosper . Bro . Somers followed , also expressing his deep interest in the welfare of tho Lodge . The W . M ., in giving tho Masonio Charities , said he hoped the Lodge would send a Steward every year

to the several Festivals . Bro . J . Terry , Secretary of the Benevolcnt Institution , responded in an eloquent speech , in which ho urged the newly admitted brethren never to forget how incumbent it was upon them to support the Charities . He hoped tho word charit y would never be effaced from their memories . Alluding to the Boys ' School , he said at tho late Cambridge election nine out of fourteen

candidates took first-class honours , four took second class , and ono third class—so thafc all acquitted themselves well . Out of fifteen girls who went np , eight took first class , six second , and ono an honourable mention . Although tho " old people " could not go in for University honours , thero were many amongst them of unblemished character ancl desen-ing of all respect and esteem . Although fchey had seen

how liberally tho brethren bad subscribed to tho Institutions , which sustained 700 dependents on tho Craft , yofc if they could obtain 5 s from each brother annually they should bo able to do away with all Festivals , and Avould not require elections . Ho thanked tho W . M . for tho opportunity of being present afc his installation for the second time . Tho toasts of the Treasurer , Secretary , and other

Officers of tho Lodge was next given , and Bros . Weston and Osborn responded , the latter intimating his intention of attending as a StOAvard at tho next Anniversary Festival of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . Bro .
