D ., Driscoll J . D ., Oxley I . G ., Cleverley , Mattocks , and others . Tho Lodgo was opened in ancient form , and the minutes of last meeting read aud confirmed . Bro . Garrod then offered himself as a candidate for raising , and
having answered the necessary questions , was entrusted , Tho Lodge was advanced , and tho ceremony of raising worked by tho W . M . The Lodge being resumed in the second degree , tho ceremony of passing was rehearsed , Bro . Cleverley being candidate . Tho Lodge was then closed in ancient form . Bro . Geo . Burford will preside at the next Lodgo meeting .

Just at this timo of the year , when Nature is donning her brightest livery , a visit to tho
neighbourhood of Kew is enjoyable nuclei * any circumstances , ancl it is therefore no wonder that the summer meetings of the lloyal Alfred Lodge should entice so many of the right sort to meet for pleasure and business combined . having boon observed , a rather stiff agenda paper was , as usual , presented and , with one exception , the whole of fcho items wero carried out , tho W . M . adding fresh laurels to those ho had already earned for tho excellent manner in which he discharged his onerous duties . Bro . Georgo Cumbers having satisfied tho brethren of his worthiness to bo entrusted , tho Lodgo was advanced and tho ceremony
of passing was performed in accordance with ancient usage , after which Locige was resumed , and Mr . Robert Charles Owen Emmerson , who had been previously approved by ballot , was initiated into tho mysteries and privileges of the Craft . Tbe ballot was then opened for Mr . Georgo David Jones , whoso sponsors wero Bros . J . Squires , and W . Tarling , and Mr . Charles Edward Botley , A . I . C . E ., who had
been proposed by Bro . F . Botley and seconded by Bro . LG . In each case the vordicfc of approval was unanimous , and fcho candidatea were admitted with the customary solemn and impressive rites . Tho W . M . in evidence of the interest he takes in the Lodgo now offered for tho acceptance of tho members a set of elegant tracing boards , which gift was graciously acknowledged . While wo are on the
matter of presentations , wc may hero record that at the last meeting Bro . L . Franckel presented a highly ornamental spring-seated chair , richly carved , for use of tho VV . M . of this Lodgo ; and tho chair now stands as a prominent feature in tho well-appointed Lodge-room . Business having been disposed of , tho brethren adjourned to the new banqueting hall , where a rich repast was served by Bro . Stanbury , and
tho menu having been discussed , tho Loyal ancl Masonic toasts were proposed by the W . M . ancl received with due enthusiasm . Speaking of the Grand Officers , ho said they must all be satisfied and pleased with tho manner in which Grand Lodgo business was conducted , and the interest which thoso distinguished brethren manifested in all matters concerning the welfare and promotion of Freemasonry . Bro . Walter Goss proposed the health of tho W . M ., whom they had all
been delighted to honour as the son of a distinguished Mason . Tho manner in which he had discharged tho onerous ditties of his position to-day had fully justified tho choice which the brethren made when they elected him to tho chair ; they were all confident that under his excellent rule tho Lodge would enjoy a year of harmouy and prosperity . Tho W . M . acknowledged the compliment paid him in a brief but practical address , in which ho assured the brethren of his deep interest in the welfare of the Lodge , aud his determination to
fulfil the duties of the chair to the best of his ability . All ho did was a labour of love , and he thanked them most sincerely for tho way in which they had received tho mention of his name on this as on every occasion when he had the happiness of mooting them . In turn , he gave tho health of the Initiitos , congratulating the brethren tipoti the infusion of new blood which promised to turn to snch good account . In the brethren who had just been admitted into tho Order
tiiey wero proud to recognise men of position , and gifted with qualities tho exercise of which must result in benefit to the Lodge . The toast was most cordially received , ancl acknowledged by Bros . Jones and Botley , tho latter of whom observed , that although only an Apprentice , he trusted he might prove worthy of the kind consideration which had been extended to him . Bro . Emmerson also
replied , expressing a hopo that ho might bo found an apt and persevering student of the art , with which ho was so delighted , and in which ho anticipated even fresh and increasingly attractive lessons . The toast of tho Visitors followed , tho W . M . expressing the pleasure it afforded tho brethren to seo so many members of other Lodges , ancl speaking of the happy and encouraging result which tho interchange
of visits always brought about . Bro . S . H . Parkhouso responded as AV . M ., and Bro . G . Penn as I . P . M ., of tho Earl of Carnarvon Lodge , and to thoir observations Bro . W . W . Morgan added a few words of thanks for the hearty reception which was always accorded to visitors by the brethren of the lloyal Alfred Lodge . Next camo tho health of tho Past Masters , whom the W . M . eulogised and thanked for tho
assistance they at all times rendered to tho Lodge , Bros . Goss , Littlcwood , and Brown responded , tho substance of their remarks being , thafc as they had endeavoured to do their duty in the past , so should they exert themselves in tho future to promote every measure that was calculated to advance the cause of Freemasonry ancl tho prosperity of this Lodge in particular . Bro . Beasley also testified fo
the admirable way in whieh their excellent W . M . discharged tho important duties of the chair ; and Bro . Hilton followed in felicitous allusion to the exertions which tho W . M . had put forth in order to infuse a truo Masonic spirit amongst the members . Bros . Roo and Potter were also called upon , and each iu turn spoke briefly in returning thanks for the cordiality with which their names had been
mentioned . Responding to the loast of the Treasurer , Bro . Goss expressed his deep appreciation of the honour which had been conferred upon him by his appointment to that office of trust . He hoped his efforts had given satisfaction , and that in tho future ho might have a similar reward for any little . service he might be able to render to the Locige . The health of the Secretary was also given , with thanks for his able service , and the toast was suitably
